In one of the late night show, Aron claimed that almost EVERYBODY can be him after hanging alone for 127h. The point is how to open such abilities in yourself without being pinned by the rock.
I sat next to him on a plane when i was 12. He is a truly amazing guy!

I’m guessing with his head and severed arm held high in the sky and keep pushing the boundaries of his life like we all do everyday. And saying yah I just cut my arm off without and medication anesthesia etc. to save myself from dying in a dark cave all alone does that mean I’m gonna now sit down and cry like a little girl that my arms gone and my life’s over no I’m gonna keep going and keep trying my very best everyday and give it my best shot and that’s all anyone can ever ask to someone.
This isn't about him being a 'less talented climber'. He basically starred death in the face for hours and still had the courage to pull back into life. That is what this is about. Life is a test in many ways - this shows how anything is possible if you try. An amazing individual and I really hope docs can somehow invent prosthetics that mimmic real arms so he gets it back!

That's what I thought too today, I dont think they have yet, hope I get a response🙂
Respect to the man
Honestly, I could NEVER do that. The mere thought of cutting off my own arm - even to save my life - makes me feel faint. Aron makes it sound like it was the obvious and only choice but I doubt anybody I know could ever do that. This guy is just amazing.

you really cant say that for sure, when you are in life or death situations who you are as a person, your character, disappears. instinct kicks in and wild things happen. thats the thing with all animals including humans, self preservation & the "will to survive" push you from accepting your death to doing the last most drastic thing possible to have a shot of survival.

I am sure this is what Aron thought for the first 100h. Try, for example, to fast for 3 days and observe how you change.
dude i respect you... you made space in my heart
Aron is looking much healthier these days! He seems more at peace. Perhaps he is 'coming into his own'? Thanks for the update on how and what he's doing. His story is inspirational to so many people!
just did my first canyon in Robber's Roost, where he cut his arm off, and I have to say... That is not the place to go alone without telling anyone. Hopefully we've all learned lessons from this man, not just glorified him. We did the East fork of Blue John Canyon to the main fork, a slightly more technical section than he was in.

got stump? LOL at his shirt
He must love all the possibilities of climbing attachments he can get to his arm now
For those of you who havent watched the film yet, i recomend doing so. Fantastic film, and really keeps you at the edge of your seat. And you can almost feel the emotions thru every frame. What a man.
I wonder if he gets tired of telling the boulder story. He must tell it a few times a week, whenever he meets a new person.
One bad decision after another and yet he stilled managed to make it out of the depths of despair... amazing. His story is truly remarkable.
He is a hero and an example for humanity! Greetings from Dominican Republic.
man to think after all he went through, after all the pain he had to suffer through, he still rock climbs he is one hell of a man and a hero, and a warrior god bless this man
i love this guy. his book was amazing. he is a shining example of human fortitude, adaptability, humility, and strength, and gratitude.
He was so brave to amputate his hand
I love his sense of humor, truly remarkable story. I saw the film and documentaries, but i still must own the book. Respect.
I think by focusing on him "still" we get to do this incredible thing that he did vicariously. We get this experience of loving life more than death and sacrificing ourselves consequently. With his education, we are educated.

Saw the movie some time ago, but (literally) just finished reading the book. Amazingly inspirational story about the human spirit & will to survive. Mad respect to Aron for performing the unthinkable in order to facilitate his own escape.
He overcame something that 97 percent of people couldn't have. His will to live was stronger than the impossible situation he was placed in. He had to rip his own body apart. The surge of rage that lay within him was finally unleashed. It was the spirit within that was always there. The spirit of his ancestors. The spirit of life. Inside Aron the spirit of life burns brighter than the sun...brighter than the whole galaxy.... brighter than anything.
i salute you aron, i'm at behind you to support, thanks for being an inspiration to us. i've seen the movie so many many times.. i'd still watched it over and over again specially when i'm at lowest point in my life just to refresh and inspired again aside from praying.. your supreme selfishness is our game.. thank you aron!
i love that last tone that sounds
i love how hes embracing it with that shirt ♥
Great . Awsome , and good article .
this guy trips me out cuz he is like me in many ways, i'm not soloing 14ers in winter but i live in colorado in the mountains, i hike solo all the time, i love phish, i am really inspired by mr ralston, the irony that he had brushes with death so frequently from mountaineering in extreme conditions then this happens on his vacation. he was looking for adventure and so am i and i hope i don't create a scenario like he had cuz damn, his balls are way bigger than mine, dude aron, you are my hero
I love how he's is still doing what he loves, even though without his arm, that doesnt stop him, however we people that have two arms are to afraid to go for it (whatever we want to do) i can speak for myself when i say im scared of os much, but seing this guy inspires me, he is awesome
This guy is amazing, He is like my hero
Truly an inspirational story of personal discovery and will to survive. I to be able to have in that situation take your life in your hands and survive is incredible. Telling todays youth about your experiences and with your wisdom educated people is what I feel most people would not do, for this your inspire me to take life everyday and never give up. Thank you for sharing this story to the world because of this i believe we all can learn something
All the best to him man..what a good guy.

3:08 is that seriously his bloody amputated arm stuck in a gap? This dude is fucking pro!

MAAD MAD MAD MAD MAD MAD MAD respect for this guy.
usually you'd think only a navy seal or some other kind of commando would have the mental ability to go through with this, this guy is truly a warrior.
The human spirit is amazing. We never know what we are capable of until backed into a corner of life or death.
You’re the greatest adventurer of all time !!!
He deserves to be a legend
This guy is so badass
I wanna give him a hug!
He is just so cool
And another thing is, it's not like he is out there showing off. How can you show something like that off? I can't even begin to imagine how he feels everyday. No wonder he is still stunned and in disbelief. It's easy for any one of us to think about what we could have or wouldn't have done, but the fact of the matter is that you either want to live or die. Although he wasn't very smart going alone and not telling anyone, at least his positive attitude towards life kept him alive!!!
this guy is amazing :)
Saludos desde España,Aron.Ánimo.
what a cool guy truly
many things make this story remarkable, like the character in the movie says, it was almost like it was meant to be, I like the part in the movie where he says this rock was waiting for me since the day I was born, everything in my life, every decision, has led me to this place, and the fact that he saw a vision of his son makes it incredible, he wasn't stupid, he is very smart had a good job, speaks many languages, plays piano very good, etc... but like he said is like it was meant to happen
The SAW movies must be a total different experience for him, lol.

I watched the movie like 10,000 times So cooool and inspirational
2:47 I can see why they cast James Franco for the movie
what a beast
I read his book "Between a Rock and A hard pace" His story is so incredible, horrible... but incredible.
127 Hours was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such an incredible true story. I can NOT wait to see the movie.
You can push the boundaries .. but sometimes the boundaries push back.
3:08 gives me goosebumps
Jesus I went 6 years back into time just to see chuck norris jokes🤦♂️
loving his stump shirt!
haha I love his shirt
Damn, mans got skills
I'm glad I saw this video. I just read the book which was fascinating about his story of survival. But what was missing was his thoughts on why God allowed him to survive and what he's suppose to do (or is doing) with this gift. This video helps a lot in filling answering that question. Seems like Aron should write another book about his journey in the years after his amazing survival.
everyone keep in mind that the most painful part was his hand being crushed by the rock. by the time he had started to amputate his own arm, he was so delirious that he probably did not feel as much pain as his hand being flattened. the hand was already "gone", so to break it off would of course be painful, but not as painful as getting your hand crushed flat.
respect life.!!
what a brave man!! to recover and get back on the horse from... not a simple thing... nope...
haha i love his shirt :) got stump?
the best man and hard
this guys the man! 4:34
Dude is a badass, seal team 6 level.
lol got stump. i love this guy
To answer his question at the end: Because many people would choose to die, or not have enough courage to amputate their own arm. The sheer amount of strength and bravery, that will to live, is enough to have your name in the halls of fame more so than anyone else I can think of at this moment.
i saw the movie, its soo good
i love at 1:10 that girl is just glaring at his arm, these kids need to take this stuff in. they're only impressionable when they want to be it seems.
Pause at 0:56. Says it all.
My leg got chopped off and after 3 surgeries the wonderful doctors reattached it and I played pro softball for the next 12 years. Mostly making that level because of how fast I could run. Nothing makes you appreciate your body like losing part of it. What I went through was not nearly as drastic as his ordeal, I was working and surrounded by people when it happened, but I can relate. Thank God for Doctors. Particularly Doctor Ronald Heisey at Bayshore Medical in Pasadena, Texas.
0:55 Crazy eyes.
On the other hand, Im sure that Aron, being smart as he is, knew since the first few days he had to break his bone to be able to cut himself free. He might had the hope of getting rescued, get free somehow, or simply the instinct to live longer before do it, but he knew what was happening. That doesnt change the fact hes a Hero and a great teacher. Im also sure he fought through the days with his arm and the rock to the point he lost his strength many times. Damn, must been really hard times.
127 HOURS YAAAHHHHH!
Hes like a professor that marked you and you will never forget
@JLIV461 Wow. That's an amazing story. Have you had any physical adverse effects from your injury? Namely, loss of feeling in your foot or phantom pains?
