@@zachbunch8701 the tab still makes you a ranger. If a senior nco goes down range and he is expected to execute missions using the training he got at ranger school his unit and the army still see him as a ranger.

This is misleading. You cannot be a Ranger in the guard. The tab does not make you a Ranger. (This is literally information you can find on the army website. You cannot be a Ranger in the national guard. At least not a real one)

@@Usca1990Asis an NG regiment wouldnt work with the way rangers deploy, although there is supposed to be an 18 series natty girl unit somewhere. In that same vein though, Ive heard, but don't actually know, that the SF NG unit doesn't deploy in the same way or on the same types of missions as active duty. I personally wasn't a ranger, but I was 11b with 2nd ID and we had 2nd bat on Lewis with us.

Bruh, Guard member 37 years, one of my baddest friends in the Guard was a Ranger. It’s a play on words. Can’t get a Ranger position for training per sae but you CAN be a Ranger in the Guard. Prior Ranger spent several years with us then went back on active duty and lit it up. One of the best soldiers I ever met and retired as a CSM at Benning.

Not in Illinois Guard... I was an 11B in the National Guard. 7 years. Not one person was sent from my company to Ranger school, and not one guy had even from active. EIB, Mountain Warfare, and GAFB (German Proficiency Badge) and Air Assault were the only schools available. 300 PT. Expert qual, and good NCOER. Only 1 Ranger spot in the whole Brigade and it was for the best warrior winner. If they actually offered schools to squared away soldiers I would still be in. Have to reward your soldiers.

I want to be an Airborne Ranger so badly and I'm going to apply for it ASAP when I get attached to my unit

Their are some guys I know who had the opportunity to go to RTLI, RTAC, and Ranger School immediately after basic training. That is probably you're best chance of going if you're unit doesn't cut your orders prematurely. Once you leave Benning tho, good luck finding a unit that will put you through it. My unit just came back from a deployment and they are still being stingy with Slots for any school. It's like they hate seeing young soldiers trying to develop.

@@CalebsCars yeah, I've always heard light infantry units have more slots for ranger then volunteers lmfao. At Bliss with 1AD they never really sent anyone, just pre ranger and desert warrior was the most I saw. The guard however just seems to vary state by state and how much your CoC likes you.

You cannot be in the 75th ranger regiment in the national guard, you can go to ranger school (A leadership course) to be "ranger qualified ". With that being said just enlist with an op40 contract in the regular army if you want to try and become a "real" ranger.

Big Army doesn’t have opt40 contacts anymore and even then once you’re in Ranger Battalion you’re required to get your tab anyways

@@jamnin94I had an option 40 but it didn’t matter. At basic they asked people if they wanted airborne school and at airborne school they asked if people wanted to sign up for rasp.

There are not.. but we can still go to Ranger School. That program from the video is RTAC which preps you for Darby week. They make it harder though.. so if you pass RTAC you pretty much make it

@@israelhoffman8074 If you meet the qualifications to become a Ranger and you graduate the program, then you earn the permanent tab denoting that you are, in fact, a Ranger. You don't have to serve 'in-regiment' (in a Ranger regiment as part of your active duty service) as they say, to earn that title. There are Rangers in the National Guard.

@@thegreatdogzilla5855 interesting. I mean, I've seen soldiers without the ranger tab, but they have the scroll. I've seen soldiers wear the tab and beret, but not the scroll. You don't need to have served in regiment to win the Best Ranger Competition and become a Best Ranger (but not really, because you aren't a Ranger cause you haven't finished RASP). SMA Dailey said he was a Ranger while giving a speech at a 2017 Ranger Graduation, while calling the graduates Rangers, but he only had the Ranger tab, and the graduates only had the tab. I guess it really depends on how much one thinks it matters, or how much one thinks other people should care.

Army / NG recruitment is doing the most lmao. I guess it's up to us to do our independent research before signing anything. All potential soldiers and guardsmen make sure to get a second/third opinion and to not just talk to your recruiter please!! It's in your best interest.

You absolutely cannot call yourself a ranger unless you are in ranger bat. The scroll and the tab are very different

These guys are going for ranger tabs. If they were active duty and in a ranger battalion, they'd get a ranger scroll. Almost anyone in the Army, E-4 and above can go to ranger school if there is a slot. Doesn't make you a ranger, it just means you passed the ranger course and school. It's a leadership school. So you get engineers, gunship pilots and so on hatred the yellow and black patch. Its definitely worth hating if you are an officer in combat arms. It's a course that can help you down the road on NCOER or whatever an officer goes through.

You arr correct. Ranger training is a school that many attend. Earning a Ranger tab is an accomplishment. A Ranger scroll is a unit patch. On the left shoulder, you are just assigned to a Ranger organization. On the right shoulder, you completed a deployment in a 'combat zone'. A combat zone is a place the Army G1 has designated hostile fire pay. But when I see a Ranger tab (short tab), a Special Forces tab (long tab), EIB, EFMB, Sapper, MFF or Jump wings and other badges and tabs I see capabilities and experiences. They do not define then wearer. They inform the wearer and everyone of KSAOs that exist within the person. If you don't have one on your chest or shoulder then you do not draw from experience but you do have an impression of what you think they bring to something. If you wear them then you have earned the right to apply your experiences. Worth noting, some badges and tabs can only be earned by Soldiers in certain career fields (MOS and AOC). In any event, extend respect to any person tabbed or badged.

You can only go to ranger school if... You're an 11 series, have the highest PT score in the unit, the unit has seats for ranger, and the if unit can fund it.

That’s wrong. Just about any mos can go to ranger school since it’s the army’s premier leadership school. However, it depends on the unit I’m in 1/1AD and since we’re the only armor division in the army that’s active we typically don’t see many people with ranger tabs except for senior infantry NCO’s and infantry officers. But again there are 2 types of basic infantry 11B which is your typical infantryman and 11C which is your mortar-man.

It is mainly open for Infantry and Artillery qualified individuals. It is possible for it to be opened up to other MOS depending on your command and your qualifications.

They may earn a Ranger Tab, but they are not Rangers. The only real Rangers are those assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. I was in the Infantry from 79-82 in West Germany and almost every Infantry Officer had a Ranger Tab, but few if any ever served with the 75th Ranger Regiment. Any enlisted Infantryman with a Ranger Tab for the most part came from the 75th Regiment and they were far and few between. Still the Ranger Tab is a very coveted Tab in the Infantry.

Ranger school has been watered down I'm a current instructor and am ashamed at alot of the people who have been forced thru the cracks it's all really not that hard and it's certainly nothing like back in the day

a bunch of these comments are complaining about how those with ranger tabs aren’t rangers. although technically correct, most of these commenters have never been in the army, or the infantry, or the regiment. An Army Ranger is officially someone currently assigned to a ranger unit. However, culturally and colloquially, calling ranger tabbed guys rangers has been common thing since the beginning. An example of this is the best ranger competition. those whining about rangers only being those assigned to the regiment then also have to admit that non-rangers can be the best rangers that year since the competition to be BEST RANGER requires you to have the tab, not the scroll. clearly, army culture and institutions disagree with some of these non-army keyboard warriors

Just remember what this shows is ranger school, it's just a leadership course nothing crazy. To be a army ranger you have to be active duty and try out for ranger selection (RASP) that's the cool speacial operations door kickers. I'm signing up for a 68w (combat medic) contract with a option 40 on there to guarantee me a spot at ranger selection. So no matter what make sure your gt score is high enough to get a option 40. You need a 110 gt score. I wish you the best

Having a ranger tab is cool but there’s only one unit in the Army where you can call yourself a “Ranger”. It’s like SF calling themselves an “Operator”, it’s just in poor taste.

The primary definition of army ranger is a soldier assigned to the 75th ranger regiment. The secondary definition is a ranger school graduate. Until the Army publishes an official definition of “ranger,” Army tradition since the mid-1900s holds to both definitions.

The hundreds of thousands of other troops in the army would all laugh at you if you called yourself a ranger and only had the tab. In fact, the best place to get educated on this is at a ranger battalion, but I imagine they would do more than laugh at you if you said that to them in person. This is all common knowledge for army soldiers but I understand the confusion of civvies and possibly people from other services. You'll definitely get the wrong idea if all you don't have any actual army experience.

The way I understood it is you're supposed to get a portion of your bonus first, and then it will be paid out in dividendsovwr the remainder of your contract. Smaller bonuses may be paid out in a single lump sum but there may also be differences for NG. Speaking of which, how the heck did you get a bonus for such a short contract? And in the guard at that?

More like, being ranger qualified. And no, ranger school is not the premier small unit tactic school
