Being a Gecko in Guatemala

Комедия

Sometimes in life you need to travel to a foreign country alone to dress up as a gecko and talk to strangers. This was very fun and even though there was a language barrier i feel like we still got some meaningful interactions in there. Where should i go next? i am a gecko.

Last guy said: "Always remember to follow your dreams and goals. Sometimes, life gets hard and maybe we get caught up into many things (means it like sometimes there are low points), but remember there's always, always a way out. You always have to look for the opportunity to come back up (from the lows). Sometimes, it's not always so good, like now for me in these moments it's not the best in my life, but I know any moment everything will get better. And like that, I encourage you all."

The translation they did for Nancy's words to the people of the computer didn't made it justice, she said "There can always be a moment to have fun when you less expect it, like this today". That was actually great wisdom lol

This is literally my favorite video so far out of all your streams/podcasts. The fact that you went to another country interviewing people in their native tongue to the best of your ability means so much. It makes it even better that you ended up finding a translator in the midst of it all haha. As someone who's a first generation in the States from an immigrant family, this is wicked appreciated my dude

lmao great episode. Just a couple tips brother Geck, in case you plan to go back. It looks like you had a great time and so did your guests. I think it's dope as hell that you had the balls to just up and leave home and go to a seemingly "foreign" land. I just wanted to write this so next time you can click with the people even better. - You were asking "que haces per labor" -- "per" isn't really a word in Spanish, you're looking for "por," and you would want to ask "¿qué haces por el trabajo?" "Laboro" also isn't used, that I know of. - "Alguien" means "someone," so when you were asking people at the end "to say 'alguien,'" what you want to say is "cualquier cosa," which translates directly to "whichever thng," or "anything." -- You would probably want to ask "¿Hay algo que quieres decir a la gente de la comupatadora? Dilen cualquier cosa." This means "Is there anything that you want to say to the people of the computer? Tell them whatever you want." - When that girl got up and her brother sat down, you meant to ask him "How do you know her?", but you asked him "What does she know?" I thought it was funny and I'm sure they weren't mad as they know you're struggling, but there's little things like that to look out for. Maybe just write down a couple questions you think you'll ask and practice saying them a few times. I think it's admirable to just get up and fly to another country where English is not the primary language. I wish I had the balls to do something like that. You bring me, and all of us joy with your show. This was a treat, it gave me a nostalgic feeling and took me back to when I was a kid and saw Urkel and the family go to Paris on Family Matters. I'm a huge fan and hope you keep it up and can't wait to see the next surprise trip!

Last thing lavoro is italian, spanish has laboro, but it’s much more normal to just say trabajo unless you’re in argentina where they think they’re italian. It’s the exact same root as “labor” in english, so it’s pretty equivalent to going around asking people “What do you do for labor?” “What kind of labor are you looking for?”

Final words for people in the computer from Diego: "Remember always to go forward with your dreams and goals. Sometimes life gets difficult and maybe we get stuck with many things. But remember that there's always a way out and you have to find an objective for your life. Maybe you're not doing as well as I am right now; Im in the best stage of my life. But I know that in any moment everything will get better so here's encouragement for all." -Diego

Being Brazilian i speak portuguese, but our country is close to a lot of spanish speaking countries. So i guess i can understand a lot of what was said (kinda wanted to be the translator), but like gecko, i woudnt know how to explain all the thoughts i was having in spanish. But funny enough, I do know a lot of english. I guess im not a bilingual, but i can write, understand and speak with people in english. So after saying this all, that video was a funny experience, i was trying to pay attention in all languages and funny mistakes that were made, both in english and spanish, while still cheering for yall communication to happen, and playing an online game. But Gecko, i could understand all, it was amazing, and i think i could learn a lot more abiut this two languages. I hope you can travel one day to Brazil, i would love to see you talking to people, and hopefully talk to you, sometime! Congratulations for this video, it was very entertaining! Mucho bueno! E Realmente maravilhoso!
