Arnold the steer is currently in the home paddock because he's going to coolroom camp on Saturday, slaughtered and processed by us on farm. When he divided and packed early in the new year, some goes to the butcher who helped, some goes to each of our grown children and their families, some goes to the neighbour who gave us a young ram last month. That's how it works

Sounds like a great way to live in community to me. 👍🏽 But I have to ask: If no cash is exchanged in that kind of mutual sharing system, how do farmers like you pay their mortgage & save for retirement & put their kids through college & cover medical bills when someone gets sick or injured? And the vet bills?! Do you have to pay cash upfront for your house & land & be off-grid with a solar power system to achieve that kind of independence?

@freedomfighter4990 the rest of the herd is up for sale but we're choosy about who we sell to. They don't go to CAFOs, only to folks who fatten on pasture. We breed on an 18month cycle (not 12 months) so they spend 9months on their mamas before they're weaned so my cattle grow BIG and command good prices. We're blessed to be debt free by this stage of our lives and don't live in USA where money is extorted for health care and an education saddles you with debt for life. You couldn't pay me to live in America

@@cassieoz1702 I hear ya. But the thought of homesteading is daunting enough. I'd never have the nerve to move abroad & try to start a farm in a foreign country!

@freedomfighter4990 I had a career change at 52 and moved onto the land. We weren't country people and there is no farming in our family background. It's long, hard work and financially uncertain but I wouldn't swap the quality of life for anything.

@@cassieoz1702 That I understand. But I'm a solo act & the one thing I know for sure about farming is that you can't do it by yourself, not even subsistence farming. So I'd have to find a partner. But there's no rush, I'm still watching videos to learn how to homestead.
I like the way you think, Dr Berry. Spreading out our sources of vital goods and services makes us more resilient. Honor nature and work with it.
Patience is necessary for farming. Once again, Dr Berry, a great video. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Dr Berry, we need more passionate people as to create a self sustaining ecosystem/farming to raise a family/ families of their own. Each and everyone should be passionate to self sustain their own family. People need to understand its not instant gratification one has to do the work. Exchange of energy give to the planet the planet gives back.
We raise our cattle, chickens and have a nice garden we eat healthy. I Love sustainability, if people would get a few cows, chickens, and garden, we could all eat healthier. If people only have a home with a yard they can at least convert that to garden. If enough people grew a garden or raise meat they could could help provide for others even those with no money could work tending to chores to help provide healthy food for themselves and family.
I love these videos!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!! 🙏🏼☀️🌱
Thank you Gentlemen. Real Talk. Time to get back to our roots.
Dear Dr. Ken Berry. You have really given me a lot of enlightenment from this video. Unfortunately I live in a senior community in central NJ. Farming like you do has always been my dream, unfortunately I am 62 yo and I don't think I will ever get there. Just want to say, thank you for all that you do for the carnivore community.
I am glad that you are sharing this journey with us. Thank you, for always having such wonderful content. 💖 😎
I agree with you, Dr. Berry, about patience and studying the old ways, learning how farmers and livestock raisers have worked for hundreds of years, even for several thousand years. But when you refer to millions of years, you’ve moved to scientism and away from the very limited view that empiricism gives us. Macro-evolution is not science; it is scientism. Micro-evolution is the design of this earth upon which we live. I appreciate you very much; I’m on a carnivore diet largely due to your teaching - and reaping the benefits. You’ve taught many of us a counter-culture diet, please learn the counter-scientism view of this earth, life, and humanity.
You look like a farmer Dr. Berry ! 🥰
I remember going to the Nashville Farmers Market growing up. Mom bought certain foods for the entire year from all the sellers there. Now that was a grocery store. Not to mention the Nashville Stockyards down the road.
This is so beautiful to listen to!! I agree on everything…like I’m using the principles of regenerative agriculture on my little farm . Thank you for this!!❤
Thank you so much Dr. Berry .
4 years we have been trying to heal 80 acres, it is improving.
That's a fine property. We're doing this right now in Wisconsin. Letting nature feed us. Good shit brother.
re Patience is very deep. TYVM guys ! The four pillars of Stoicism are also good
Thank you Dr. Berry!❤
So exciting! Bravo!
I learned a lot from this video.
I love these discussions!
AMEN!!! Past 2 years I bought a half a cow, and this year a whole cow from a local farm. Plan on that being my way of buying beef. 😁🥩🐄🐮
Patience? In a age where most people think waiting an entire minute to cook a hotdog in a microwave is way too long? Good luck. LOL.
ken, how many hens for an office visit?
I believe that too. Thanks.
This is so awesome...wonderful to share...
I enjoyed your video Dr.Berry.
I want to get a steer to raise for beef, but the only auctions are a lot of miles away. We do have people in our county that raise and sell their own beef. I need to turn some of these 5 acres into pasture and I am at a loss as to what to do.
As a very young child we learned in school about the Native Americans and their way of life (and eventual bad treatment of them) I always felt sad and upset that we never learned from them in regards to honoring Mother Nature, the earth. We could’ve learned so much from them! Now I’m almost 63 years old and NOW things are beginning to change: to be talked about in regards to farming, food consumption & the earths ability to regenerate. I’m grateful it’s begun before I meet my maker. Maybe there is still hope for human kind.
All good things come to those who wait..........
Love the way you think Dr

6 months on keto felt so so 8 weeks on carnivore never felt better...no going back, thank you for your dedication to your profession and truly caring for people’s health.
Sounds great!
I love this more "documentary" type of content.
Hi Dr Berry, check out the story of Foundations for Farming. Yes it focuses on growing Vegetables and fruit, but the concept is exactly what you're talking about here. God's blanket is feeding, protecting and making the soil. And their 4 principals are not just for farming but life too: 1. Do everything ON TIME. 2. Do everything AT the highest STANDARD, glorifying GOD in the process. 3. DON'T WASTE anything. It can be used. 4. Whatever you do, do it WITH JOY because if you're not enjoying what you're doing, it will be so much easier to give up. The Joy of the Lord is your strength.
FACT KEN!!! KEEP ON!!!!😃
if we all produce something we will all win. Grow your own you know what you are putting in your body.
Evening y’all
Great video. More farming stuff
I love this series.
I have just started carnivore way of eating today! I am 71 and have watched your videos off and on while doing keto for a few months and my insulin resistance is not going away fast enough so I am going to try this! I wish I had stuck with keto a year ago. I lost 55 lbs. but life got in the way. It was just easier to not fight having to cook for two. Now I have no choice, do or die. My doctor is pushing me to get on Statins and I know this is bad for me. The keto diet has helped me get off sugars and carbs, but I know Carnivore might be my last chance to reverse being pre-diabetic. I have fought auto-immune decease and such.

Doc sounds like you talking about the soil food web.
The pine planting grants (among other govt grants) years ago took out majority of our agriculture land nationwide. It is sad that many farmers and just landowners fell into the pine tree planting and it destroyed our beautiful ag land with pines. But, the money these folks got was astronomical on an annual basis and was more than a farmer leased the land for so there was no competition to govt payouts so the farmer couldn't find land due to pine trees and set aside land payouts. Sad that we are dealing with little open land left now, esp in the south.
Awesome
Where is the pasture land for the beef ? It's very expensive to remove trees and stumps and runs around $2000+ to just cut and not remove. It's not cost worthy, believe me. The ROI on the cattle would be a very slow timing return. Rotating cows from pasture to pasture is important. Hay is hard to find in winter. Sale barns are few and far between now when selling the calves but you will also need a trailer and fifth wheel. Raising cattle is a break even or little profit business for a small farmer. Just some suggestions to take into consideration first. Goat business however is growing in Mississippi.... We are small farmers and it is a lot of work so get ready.... If ya' heart is truly in it, anything is possible.

Have you every watch Allan Savory? Mr. Savory a livestock farmer from Zimbabwean, who founded Savory Institute.
Agree %100 Dr Berry..❤
The closer to Paleo Man we get the healthier we become. Going slow and waiting is HEALTHY....
"Convenience will be our downfall." Look where convenience has gotten us. Fat, lazy, and sick. And look what we've done to nature?? This beautiful system that literally takes care of our needs and we think we can play God and improve it with some synthetic or lab grown variation.. We homestead because we want better for ourselves, for our children! To be less reliant on "them" and more on ourselves and like minded neighbors. The more people get back to this, the more we crumble that system.
Patience is a very good subject! Our planet can heal itself, but it is approaching critical stages! You mentioned spam I guess I will have to live on spam! Everyone has to be on board, or what you are saying will not work!
Reminds me of The Vegetarian Myth (2009)
Bought a 1/4 beef from a new farmer. Rather give my money to them then big corporate. At least I know this beef is 100% grassfed. Thinking of buying chickens too from them. Went to farmers market to purchase a case of whole chickens from local farmer too. Set with protein meats for awhile. I grew up on a farm so I do miss the homegrown beef, chicken & produce. Much healthier for the body.

Hi Dr Berry. I have lynch syndrome (predisposition for bowel cancer). Is it still optimal for someone who has a hereditary bowel cancer predisposition to eat a carnivore based diet? Some research has suggested that resistant starch may be the better route for such people.

I think the only 60 harvests left thing is a little overblown. I’ve been hearing it for a few years. Are we now down to 55?
Dr. Berry can you please do a video on pancreatitis? Not fatty pancreas. About what to eat or not eat including amounts of fat per meal. I know pancreatitis is a subject most Drs don't even like to discuss. Can I still eat carnivore and should I stay away from eggs and butter? I'm terrified to eat. My last attack was June

What is the best, if there is anything, diet/course of action, for a person with PKD? I have a great kidney doctor that I go to but the overall suggestion for people with PKD is to eat plant based diets. Dont eat high protein (not a lot of meat), bc its hard on the kidneys...and so on. I love meats more than plants, though i have a balance of 70/30, meat to plant diet. But I'm not sure which way to go about it all. Do i have any other options? Especially since I'm stage 3 kidney failure already. What course of action do i have? Or is there still no solution for people like me?
Not to many Millennials and gen z's understand patience. They have been spoiled to instant gratification. Unfortunately they want the gratification at someone else expense, not theirs. I'm 61 and when my dad was a boy he saw that red bicycle in the window of the store and wanted it but knew it was never to be. He had too much work around their farm and no source of income. Me on the other hand had that opportunity so I worked all Summer and proudly went and paid cash for that bicycle and took great care of it. The generation after me wanted the bicycle too but had to have it now not tomorrow so they put it on plastic and worried about somehow paying for it later. Then came the Millennials who demanded the bike be given to them and that guy over there with all the money should have to pay for it, not me. Lastly came the gen z's that simply break the front glass out, take the bicycle then complain that they have somehow been the victim of oppression and this bike is just the beginning of their demands.
Someone put up a video of him eating vegetables, how sad is someone's life their trying to catch people eating vegetables.
A new drinking game, take a drink every time Dr. Barry says the word patience. LOL
Science is one thing but trusting the scientists? Forget it.

Why worry about the chickens getting wiped out by pixie dust when a farmer already proved in court nearby towers were harming his cows and he got them removed? Solve real problems first.

The Greeks talked about “ Hubris” or the arrogance of thinking that one is superior to the gods. Work with nature, not against it.
I absolutely love your ideas about getting back to local sources for food, I love your medical messages, BUT I really struggle with your OPINION that the earth is millions of years old. There is no absolute science that can prove that. You said it several times in this video as though you know for certain it’s millions of years old. I’m not saying for certain it’s not millions of years old but the evidence would not say it is. I will still watch but I cringe every time I hear you say this. Thanks for all you do and you have definitely inspired me to eat a healthier diet!
