Behind the Scenes at ORIGIN USA!!! | History Traveler Bonus

In the previous episode, we were in Farmington, Maine with Pete Roberts of Origin USA exploring the history of manufacturing in the Northeast and how the people of Origin are bringing it back. I had a chance to go back to the Origin facilities to get a behind the scenes look at everything going on in their garment, boot, and nutritional divisions. Definitely a must see!

I used to buy all my boots from the Rocky Boot factory here in Nelsonville, Ohio. They no longer make the boots here and are made overseas. I will be buying a pair of boots from Origin. That’s for the great videos. I have watched them all from beginning to end during this pandemic and working from home.

Brought back a lot of memories of my years back in the 70's as a weaver and the special knots we used when a strand of material broke and shut the loom down. Each machine had a red flag on it that you raised to get the attention of the loom fixer, a yellow for the cloth doffer (the individual that removes the roll of woven material from the machine and delivers it to the inspection department) and was assigned a section of machines to maintain, the higher your production the more you made. Thank you for another wonderful video and Thank you Origin for bringing back this knowledge.

My folks and I prefer to buy American-made. We will never stop feeling proud and blessed to be U.S. citizens. I just checked out the Origin website and will tell the men in my family about it. I'm hoping for that more factories will resurrect in America, putting the well-being of the workers first (and also putting out clothing for women as well as for men). Thanks for both videos!

That's very cool how we are bringing OUR manufacturing back here in the good ole USA! I like how the man has taken the time to learn how to fix the parts/problems himself rather than outsourcing to another country. We need more of this here. I do see why you chose this company since you use their products. You have promoted the "origin " of your Jocko drinks. Good to see more Made in the USA!

My hat goes off for these workers, factory work is some of the most tedious work. I worked for a well known cosmetic company, and a seat belt company for a while. It takes a lot of stamina, and you have to like it. This company is great for all, providing, jobs, the well being of the town, and the country. Thank you for the video.

Those small Maine towns are beautiful. I was stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station for a year........in the early 60s. In those years, there were a lot of towns that had shoe/boot factories. I believe L.L. Bean got their start making boots. It is interesting to see that manufacturing is getting a new start. I might also add, the area from Lewiston to Farmington had some really good fishing lakes. I am enjoying your Maine series.

If you enjoy what Origin is doing (and obviously, you do!) check into Shinola and what they are doing to revitalize manufacturing and pride in the Detroit area. This reminded me of my father. He could fix just about anything mechanical, including the beater cars that were all we could afford. I diagnosed a couple of problems a few times and didn't exactly win his undying gratitude for doing so, especially the time he couldn't get a lamp that he'd fix to light up. I saw that it wasn't plugged in and managed to do it at the exact moment that he clicked it back on and got a bright light in his eyes. Dad worked in factories most of the time and by the time he was ready to retire, he was designing and building machinery from miscellaneous parts. I only wish that I could have learned more from him. I did manage to pick up on some of the way he did things, though.

We musta had that same efficiency expert at a place I worked. Same paper airplane thing. But I never cottoned on to the CAB-BAN stuff. Too regimented. And ON-TIME operations are too dependent on everything going just right. BTW, scrutinizing every single second of an employee's time doesnt make them a better employee. In fact, it makes them resentful. It may work for the Japanese, but Americans prize their individuality too much. U.S. manufacturers please, dont turn your employees into robots.
