Usually that's not exactly how that works as far as the Emmys go. They'll submit for "best writing," "best directing," "best drama series," etc, and as far as I know, they submit specific episodes to represent what the team feels is their best work. IMO they'll submit "Dear Billy" as that representation for as many categories as they can.

For those who don't know for something as big as this, Visual effects takes hundreds of people to do. Take avengers endgame for example, it took 1000 people just for visual effects out of the 15000 people that were employed. This scene was chilling. I wish they talked more about the decision to use Running Up that Hill- I think that was one of the most integral parts. The song builds in a way, both lyrically and melodically, that creates such a feeling of desperation. I can't explain it.
"Dear billy" episode was something unforgettable
I know everybody refers to this as 'THE scene' of season four but this episode also had the one-take shoot out scene which I flipping LOVED. Sadie did such a great job this season! Her acting was so real making even the viewer feel what she feels!
This bts really highlights the magic of special effects. This is how it’s done, man, using special effects as a bedrock, enhancing and completing it with visual effects. It was Sadie’s look of terror and desperation throughout this whole sequence that sold the realism and it’s your job as a full team to help her convey it by giving her all you can to work with and helping your team execute your vision instead of just dumping the actor on a bluescreen and telling your CG artists to just make shit happen. Boy did they deliver.
By far the best thing I've watched for a long time- I call the show: "Greater Things!", because this production is absolutely a pure perfection of the word "Great!" 👍👍👍

You really have to admire the teams's dedication to practical effects where possible. The mix of practical effects with digital makes everything look so much more believable and avoids that uncanny valley effect. Sadie and Jamie were definitely the MVPs for this season; just fantastic acting.
sadie is an amazing actor.
From what BTS I've seen I noticed that none of the stunts are done by the actors themselves. No falls, no dragging, no getting thrown, they are used in only those shots where facial expressions are necessary. Millie falling on the rinko mania floor, Saddie getting dragged and she slipping, Natalia getting thrown to the wall, all the scene are done by stunt doubles. And I respect ST for doing that, we focus more on the end product than the actor's struggle to get through that scene. As its a sci-fi series, not an action series.

At the end of the day, the Party are young people who aren't professional stuntpersons. They have done some minor stunt stuff involving wire work (one scene involving Millie being flipped over and over resulted in her having to do answer the porcelain telephone once it was done), but why risk hurting them? The fact it's very hard to see the join is a testament to the editors.
This episode needs to win awards all around. From the special effects and the actors. What a fantastic season!!!!
Sadie did so good all the cast did but that one scene of max and vecna gave me the chills so much feeling

The cinematography was brilliant. Max sprinting, lightning, red, the desperation and fear in her eyes. And the LYRICS: “Come on baby. Come on, come on darling”/“if I only could make a deal with God, and I get him to swap our places” You felt everything.
She’s always been great but her acting this season was off the charts

For such a young actress, her face of anguish and horror really made me feel the tension.
Best scene of the show, congratulations to Sadie Sink, amazing job
it's so refreshing to see filmmakers letting practical effects do the legwork in a bts video for once... i feel like so often i'm seeing behind the scenes videos and it's all green screen + vfx 😭 this just looks so much more fun for everyone involved
Fighting to survive & not giving up like most of us today in this crazy world. This scene was so powerful in so many ways & what a perfect song for it! Amazing job to everyone & wow what a performance 👏
The fact that all these stuff like the falling objects and the vines werent there proves that shes a good actress
i love how they even added at 1:56 CGI scrunchie and bangs to Chrissy's dummy after post. It's all in the tiny details for me.
It's my fav scene from all the seasons of stranger things ! Sadie is such a good actress !
WOW! at 1:06, you can see that only Sadie and the 2 foreground pillars are practical elements they used in the shot; everything else was rotoscoped out for the wide shot to show the expansiveness of the upside down. I'm assuming the stuff in the far background are just 3D models. Though, it's possible they could've used a roto'd clean plate of the Mind Lair set and comp that far in the back so lack of parallax won't be a big issue. and of course, color it and add fog + debris layers to cover it up. It helps that it was lit well I can't wait for more breakdowns from Vol 2!!!
