BEHIND THE FOG THAT CONCEALED GEN KASIRYE GGWANGA

Click to Subscribe: / owanapaedia & turn on notifications to find out when I upload new videos.
In the last decade of his life, this celebrated soldier generated a dense fog that successfully hid the real Ggwanga behind the untruthful image of an aged, pot-smoking and boozy, amiable bully with an itchy trigger-finger. Now Owanapaedia fans away the fog for a glimpse at the other Ggwanga…

Most interesting cameo is Lt.Col James Sebaggala and Major Tom Tumuheirwe. Sebaggala trained me at Kabamba and had three sons in the army. Interestingly, they were his escorts. He had a Defender landrover and we were instructed as recruits to polish the tires of the vehicle with kiwi shoe polish every week. Then I worked with Major Tom at Magamaga in Iganga District. This man was a different character, he wanted escorts to guard his cows every day in the village. One day, he was almost shoot for wondering in the farm at night unbeknown to the guards that it was Major Tom. He had to shout his name out loud for the guards to cease fire. Hahaha. He was like "musiwowe musiwowe mimi C.O."

@@OWANAPAEDIA Am very sure, he will do two things. One is to laugh about those days. Two, claim fake news. I can picture him laughing with that horse voice of his. By the way, I also studied with his son in Jinja (Army Boarding) and he later on worked for WBS TV. The son had the same weird characters, he would command fellow pupils to clean his shoes at any time and anywhere because he was the head boy. Teachers looked the other side because he is a son of Lt.Col. I think, its a weird family.

Looks like Gen. Kazini didn't learn anything from that training in 1995, because he got humiliated/defeated by the Rwandan Patriotic Army three years later in Congo...

That tragedy in Congo was that highly-trained and experienced brothers/sisters and friends (Uganda and Rwanda) found themselves on opposite sides for the first time. I advise you never to celebrate that milestone again because I am sure that even those you think of as having won did not celebrate the victory when each of them knelt by his bedside, alone, in prayer that evening...

Mr. Owana, I have a lot of respect for you, but totally disagree with the assertion that Maj Gen. Kasirye Gwanga could have been a part of Kayiira's rebels that attacked the Barracks. In one of his final TV interviews, the general shared the story of how he was being housed in Mengo when they attacked, and he heard all the booming sounds as they went off. The next day he looked for the rebels and chastised them for doing such a silly action, he later on parted ways with Kayiira on seeing how indisciplined his gang was. Having been an expert in artillery, Kayiira had first been very excited to get Kasirye on his side because he'd finally gotten someone to fire the motor better than their amateur handlers, who had failed to achieve any impact with the attack on the barracks. This story was shared by Maj Gen. Kasirye Gwanga two months before his death

He said the Army had reason to believe he was part of kayiira's rebels... he doesn't say it's the truth. It was just based on suspicion

Rodger, the only authority you are quoting is the fallen general, Kasirye, himself. However, some of the people who recruited Kasirye into the UFM are still alive and they have other versions to what you insist to be the only truth. It will come out one day...
