Behind Kenya's proposal to send a thousand police to Haiti | DW News

Armed gangs in Haiti still control nearly 80% of the capital, Port au Prince. The violence has continued despite the appointment of a transitional government, following the resignation of the former Prime Minister Ariel Henry last month. Kenya is proposing to send hundreds of police to the country to help stop the violence but many are increasingly worried about the idea.

I am part of the first generation of Haitian Americans born a raised in the United States. I served in the US Navy, and I have a Law Enforcement background. I am just one of many Haitian Americans who have a skill that can be utilized in Haiti. In this first generation, there are doctors, EMTs, architects, engineers, IT professionals, and many others who will have a vested interest in bringing structure and order. If the US really wanted to do something, they would reach out to this group here in the US. The US could have easy put a peace core made of this group and used the money to back the peace core instead of to foreign interests that will have no vested interest in Haiti. Put the call out and watch how many of us will respond to the call.

My brother in law told me to set cruise control on the expressway which I thought was a bit fast and right as we were quickly approaching a car labelled police. I put my brakes on and he asked me what I was doing? I pointed to the police and he laughed. At that moment two more cars flew past me and the apparently not traffic department of the police judging by the fact the police car didn’t flinch 🤣

These arguments are made based on political alignment. Meaning if you supported Ruto during the 2022 elections, chances are the you will support Ruto's choices, even if they're harming other people. The problem here is that the US that has been destabilizing Haiti for over 200 years including sponsoring a coup in 2004 that abducted a president voted in by 90% of Haitians and transported him to a strange country 10,000 kilometers away. The US president called his French counterpart to celebrate the successful coup. Allegedly, US/France were also involved in 2020. Kenyans pretending to care about Haiti did not care before our white US masters recently hired us to do their bidding. Not even during the 2010 earthquake that killed _220,000_ (!!) Haitians. Even if we do bring temporary peace in Haiti, we're apparently being used like Idi Amin of Uganda was used to suppress an uprising against the colonial British govt in Kenya. It probably won't solve the problems of Haiti long term... it will only serve to delay the emergence of a perennially peaceful and prosperous Haiti, because the democratic choices of Haitians are not respected, and leaders they do not choose forced upon them.
