Why is Kenya planning to send police to contain the anarchy in Haiti?

A controversial decision to send a thousand Kenyan police to gang-ridden Haiti remains on hold. Kenyan troops have participated in multiple international peacekeeping missions before, but sending police on a mission to the Caribbean nation is a first, and many Kenyans aren't happy about it. The government of President William Ruto says it is a moral obligation to help their friends where Western-led assistance has failed. But will Kenyan police be able to calm a country controlled by gangs?

We can't go if there's no government in place to support in Haiti and also if the people of Haiti don't want us there.... What would be the point?

It is not in the geopolitical interest nor national security interests of the United States to see a prosperous Haiti. The first black liberated nation in it's backyard. This has been the center argument and concerns and talking points among the elites for past 200 years. Had Haiti continued on the trajectory of freedom, it would have created competition with the United States. The only reason U.S troops aren't deployed to Haiti now is because we in the middle of presidential election. It would look bad on media and world to see U.S troops killing black carribean people. This is why Kenya 🇰🇪 is willing to help do U.S' dirty jobs.

Again an example of having convos about AYITI without a Haitian insight. Yes there is a rep but you couldn’t find a Haitian to speak on behalf their own country. This is a micro example of what colonization does it strips the voice & power of a nation
