Carol, this is a wonderful way for beginners to learn the different 'words' in a written pattern. I'm not a beginner, but I'll be watching anyway. You do a great service to the new and not so new quilters.

I just learned about these “pop” sounds from Accuquilt and had no idea how to really find the length and width of a scrap. But I always could find the bias since it does stretch quite a bit! I’m always wanting to learn or relearn anything that can help me make quilts, sew, etc. Thank you Carol!!!

It is the ONLY you can tell if the selvedge edge is missing. You use it all the time when using Accquilt as the scraps or cut fabrics must be laid with the straight grain lying parallel to the edge with the white label.

Awe, this video is great intro to all you have in store for us, I have this idea that I want to make a quilt that has no formal settings using a range of different size star blocks. Knowing how to fill in a grid with background pieces is going to make it successful. I know your planning will help me achieve my vision. Thanks Carol for a sharing, looking forward to your next video. 👍❤️😊

I had somehow missed your first two beginniners guide lessons this week. So glad I found them. I know how to find the straight grain on fabric, but the “pop” test for differentiating lengthwise vs. crosswise grain is new to me. Thanks for so much great information!

You can actually see a bit of stretch if you tug your fabric in both directions . It becomes clearer if you ever watch any video showing how the manufacturers produce a woven fabric . The straight grain/ warp threads have to be strong as they get subjected to extreme pressure as the huge spools move through the traditional manufacturing process.
