Thank you !
6/29/23 update!
I can't believe this little video is still going and GOING! Guys, thanks for watching - it means a lot. I've 500+ videos but this was one of the first and I didn't even originally make it for KZread. I know it looks like it was made in 1984 instead of 2012, believe me. But the content is still very cool.
Please join me on Saturdays at 5pm ET for my free KZread Guitar Q+A livestream. Just text your questions about learning the guitar and I'll answer as many as I can in about 2 hours. If you can't make it on Saturdays, the livestreams are available to watch afterwards and soon I'll be making them into podcasts as well. I look forward to your questions!
And if you're serious about getting better at the guitar, check out my website www.song-bike.com. Lots of great content and PDFs - stuff NOT AVAILABLE on KZread.
I do online lessons too. Email me : info@song-bike.com
This episode teaches how to move open-position chords up the neck to create new "voicings" of chords. Guitar players do this to create new tones and options when playing with a second guitar player who IS playing the open-position chords. Also, these up-the-neck chords are useful in band situations where open-position chords can be too boomy or jangly to fit the song.

Thank you Mr. Kehew a few years ago a good friend of mine gave me a guitar and told me to learn how to play it. That I’m doing so it would help me through my journey battling a couple cancers that suddenly became an issue. Your lessons were part of my medicine. After 4 years now I’m cancer free. I also have learned enough guitar to go back through my lessons. This one was a big boost, once I learned the regular chords . Thank you sir.

Your enthusiasm & words build confidence, & thanks so much for conveying such relatable & conscientious comments in a genuinely friendly way, & for the great asides & tips. There's a great spirit behind these teaching videos! A well-covered Gerry Goffin & Carole King tune says, " . . . and something happens to me that's 'some kind of wonderful' . . . ;" & it seems this describes how so many of us students feel from your teaching, so let me borrow the title and say YOU are "Some Kind of Wonderful!" I’m a newbie to the guitar although I’ve been playing piano for a while and understand theory. But barre chords have been elusive and this up-the-neck method is brilliant to let me play any chord I want to while still learning barre chords gradually. Looking forward to many more of your videos.

Holy cow!! I have been looking for you all my life!! My guitar "career" started when I was just a wee thing and my uncle taught me an open G chord. Showed me a little country/western strumming pattern, and I have been attempting to learn to play ever since. I can't learn all the other ways for whatever reason - you just made this a billion times easier!! I hear so much creative music in my head, but while I can pick it out on the piano (though I play classical) it is always something that will sound better on the guitar. I left the lessons on the guitar alone, because the piano lessons "killed" that creative streak. Your method is FANTASTIC for someone like me! You show where to go without losing the shape and THAT keeps the door open for creativity! Thank you SO VERY MUCH!! *subscribed for life!!* (Or at least as long as KZread's life lol)

I don't class myself as a beginner, but self teaching and improving via youtube (until lockdown is lifted and I can afford a local teacher) I do move chords around a bit because they sound good, but I had no idea how to find out what these chords are. The example using D major moving it up to become G then A, is a real light bulb moment!! Many thanks☺
