This video is all about how to take apart a sailboat winch as well as winch maintenance. When your winch gets loud and doesn't turn well it's time to dismantle it, give it a clean and lube it up.

Good information about that thing. I believe it is the thing to hold ropes. I guess living in a salt water environment needs a little maintenance once in a while. Easy to follow good job guys😘⛵😍

Thanks and everything on a boat needs a little maintenance after a while. Salt water is not a boat's friend.

I just looked it up those are called internal or external spiral keeper rings. Great video, I had taken mine off for the first time a couple of years ago. Made sure I did one at a time so I’d have one to look at to put them back together.

Thanks for sharing Norman. There's a lot of parts and taking one apart at a time is a great idea. We also used the instructions pamphlet that came with them. Good thing the previous owners kept it.

Nice video. The reason for not greasing the pawls is because they don't work when it's cold out. Have fun and Happy Thanksgiving

Enkes winch is an exact copy.... But the base is aluminium so the centre shaft corroded. A difficult rebuild.

We share our learning experience with anyone interested and did mention it was our first time taking them apart. How many times would you recommend doing something as simple as this before you felt like it was ok to make a video about? If you feel like we missed something please let us know. If you are uncomfortable with learning from someone who is just figuring it out for themselves maybe KZread is not the best place to look.
