Beginner - How to make clay slip - home pottery (subtitled)

In this pottery tutorial, I'll demonstrate how to make clay slip for your handmade pottery. It's a common question among ceramics beginners: "What do you glue the feet of your pots with?" This "glue" may seem mysterious to newcomers, but it's actually slip, a fundamental material in pottery. Through this video, I'll show you how to make slip, explaining its importance and how to use it effectively to stick clay together. I'll show the basics of pottery, including clay preparation and slip production, making it a perfect pottery 101 for beginners, with many pottery tips.
🔥 In this video, my main aim was to clarify to beginners what slip is, as I often get asked about it. I just wanted to demonstrate that it's not some "special glue" but simply clay. It's not always necessary to grind clay into powder to make slip.
You can simply soak pieces of dry clay in water and then blend them.
⚠️ Also, I forgot to mention an important safety tip: silica can be very harmful to your lungs, so it's essential to wear a mask for protection.

I’d love to know what all the intricate holes on the bottom of the piece are for.

oh it's just that my main activity is to make pots for bonsai, it's specific to bonsai. These holes are drainage holes, or to pass holding wire to tie the tree.

Why does the clay need to be dried, crushed, and then re hydrated? Why couldn't water just be added to wet clay and mix well until you reach the same consistency?

You don't have to grind the clay into powder, I explain more in the subtitles. The aim is above all to explain what the slip is, that it is not “special glue”.

You make a lot dust, very dangerous. You don’t need to make dust to make slip That dust contains silica
