9/17/23 update!
Hey everyone, an easy way to support my channel is to shop at Sweetwater using this link: sweetwater.sjv.io/9gyjrQ
Thank you !
6/29/23 update!
I can't believe this little video is still going and GOING! Guys, thanks for watching - it means a lot. I've 500+ videos but this was one of the first and I didn't even originally make it for KZread. I know it looks like it was made in 1984 instead of 2012, believe me. But the content is still very cool.
Please join me on Saturdays at 5pm ET for my free KZread Guitar Q+A livestream. Just text your questions about learning the guitar and I'll answer as many as I can in about 2 hours. If you can't make it on Saturdays, the livestreams are available to watch afterwards and soon I'll be making them into podcasts as well. I look forward to your questions!
And if you're serious about getting better at the guitar, check out my website www.song-bike.com. Lots of great content and PDFs - stuff NOT AVAILABLE on KZread.
I do online lessons too. Email me : info@song-bike.com
You can't rock without Power Chords - and they're EASY ! Finally....something a beginner can play that sounds PRO, because everybody uses Power Chords: The Beatles, punk, metal, grunge, indie... This video will get you up and running in a hurry. Grab your guitar and add to your skills TODAY !

Absolutely the best tutorial I've had on utube! I am 71 years old and recoving from a stroke. I'm just getting back to playing guitar after 20+ years. I was not very good before but with your help I'm going to be real good soon. Liked, subscribed and loving it. Others tell you to put your fingers here and you are all set . But, you walked through this patiently and did not rush. Your pointer on thumb placement helps immensely. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with a great teaching style.

I plugged it into an amp in the store and I was like, why doesn't it sound like an electric guitar? I was way too embarrassed to ask anyone, but now I understand thanks to you...power chords. Will probably buy an amp tomorrow and then to play my first power chord.....I'm really excited about this journey.

Very nice tutorial, suggested this to my friend whos just starting. I generally think that learning power chords before, well, "real" chords is much more useful. For beginner chords and changing between them can be really really hard and it doest really motivate you to continue when everything you play sounds "bad". With easy power chords you start to hear the songs yourself playing giving motivation boost. At least thats what id like to think.

I'm just starting guitar (moving from the bass) and I must say: I had a basic abstract idea of power chords, but I never knew that they are a thing. When I kept hearing "power chords" on guitar forums, I had to find out what they were. And I'm so glad I chose your video. When you said that anyone can learn them I didn't believe you. However you explain it so simply yet masterfully detailed that you certainly proved me wrong. Thanks a lot!
