    There is not enough informative PSOBB vids like this one (that I can find). I used this vid a couple weeks ago to decide what my first character would be on Ephinea. As someone who played this game as a kid but never really learned how the game’s stats worked, I got a lot of useful information from this. Thank you.

    The split for cast vs non-cast is that casts, generally, are better at _avoiding_ damage, whereas humans and newmans are better at _healing_ damage. Because of this, especially low level, humans tend to be more forgiving, while casts are more rewarding while being riskier to start.

    I mostly agree. I would probably frame the choice as more of if you want to be stronger carries in Single Player (Humans, Newmans) vs. Multiplayer (Casts). Casts are given excellent crowd control tools and high stat caps in exchange for limited healing/buffing/debuffing. Any Cast cannot compete with the ability to mitigate / reduce / avoid / recover damage like a Force or most non-Cast Female characters can in solo. Evade and Defense are generally much weaker stats so the inherit class bonuses don't favor them much here for survival --- exception being characters that can Deband to defense boost and/or Jellen to reduce enemy damage, things the Cast doesn't get easy access to. It also gets much worse for them to avoid damage with purely stats in Multiplayer without a lot of help from others. I view it as more that they MUST prevent being damaged in the first place through gameplay (mostly positioning) / weapons / traps to handle the scaling enemies. You can see this intent with the Cast to deal with damage indirectly with their Ultimate bonuses to land status ailments. You did remind me of one topic when it comes to damage. I also feel Casts can avoid damage through raw kill speed in Multiplayer generally speaking (some exceptions being where Demon's is the preferred damage of course). To the new players: it is important to note that Humans/NewMans will outpace their cast counterpart in clear speed in single player generally speaking due to how Shifta and/or Zalure work on targets (I'm going to skip Forces to simplify the point). Unless you have a lot of mats or really spec up with a mag, often it can feel you just don't have the tools or raw damage to reasonably clear areas like the others since your advantage is so stat and level dependent. I feel they have a nice time until you reach Ruins in Normal from a low item perspective, then it gets kind of rough at how much more damage a RaMar or RaMarl will deal over their counterparts from there until the rest of the game. This is incredibly apparent when doing TTF runs against enemies with high defense and Casts can barely damage Falz (without Mylla Youla) and/or are so situationally limited in their damage.

    When i was a kid, I chose a FoMar and just liked them because I could finish off enemies with an attack I always liked the Red Mage type characters that relies on casting but can fall back on melee to conserve MP That being said, I though the game was meant to be constant suffering until I played a RaMar. "Wait, I'm not using all my items every single room... IS THIS HOW THE GAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED?!"

    Working out the exact format for the next topic, quest discussion, but it is in the works. Likely needs to be a two-parter since I need to verify a lot for pre-Ultimate Discussion vs. Ultimate Discussion. They go somewhat in tandem with item hunts for class specific items, which makes it tricky to cover.

    Great video! There are two types of blocking in this game. Evasion blocking is a perfect block that nullifies physical attacks. During the animation you won't lose any ground and you will ignore any status effects that would normally be inflicted. Defense blocking uses the same animation except your character is pushed back by the impact of the block. This type of blocking does not block status effects.

    I will be doing a more formal guide for Hunters closer towards the end of the Easter event to cover items of interest. My advice with HuMar is that they can excel vs. bosses due to their ATP but they can struggle without the right gear. Trying to host and/or join games of TTF / RT for the boss rush quests can help you get out of that awkward leveling territory with them. In boss focused quests, they can really destroy almost everything with just 50H Charge Vulcans and Vjaya (or 50H Charge Gugnir if lacking a decent hit Vjaya for Worm Boss and even room clears). Highly recommend you cap ATA with H/Arms, Smartlink to actually land Charge/Berserk/Spirit Slicer + Vulcans, and get a nice ranged weapon with at least pistol range for Falz if you aren't doing so already. Your big game changer items beyond that are Excalibur/Galatine + V801 for solo Vol Opt clears and Dark Flow to wreck Dragon / help speed up Falz if stat'd well. Easter time i would just hop into whatever RBR is up to get extra egg chances for gambles / direct exchanges for the most part.

    As much as my chat tends to meme on HUMar, I can't stress enough how useful Rabarta is across the different characters. They also have some interesting solo speed potential, but personal experience it has just been kind of rough even getting to that point compared to just playing a HUCast or any Ranger instead.

    Just want to make a note for anyone who hasn’t had much experience with the FOmar: I’ve taken a FOmar up to lvl 146 about 5 times before. And each time, using maxed Shifta/Deband on myself and maxed Jellen/Zalure on mobs, the combo effectively doubled my damaged dealt and halved the damage taken, and also (it doesn’t actually show this in the game) increased my accuracy and made it harder for enemies to hit me. I could solo Ultimate mode IN MELEE all the mobs in all areas of Ep1, with the only difficult monsters being the special ones for each area (Hildblue/Hildelt in Forest, Nano Dragons in Caves, Garanz in Mines, and the Chaos Bringers in Ruins). That’s right, a Force going melee on everything in Ultimate. It was hilarious and I really enjoyed the irony of it. 😂

    FOMar is fine in the sense that Jellen / Zalure carry hard for solo play. Females / Forces are basically unkillable in solo for this reason by the time you reach Ultimate. Jellen / Zalure does not impact accuracy or the enemies ability to hit you as suggested by your comment in any way. If enemies would do 0 damage due to Jellen, it causes a slightly different animation (that's it). His main weakness is not as apparent in solo play --- and it's his accuracy. Expecting to hit anything beyond normals on some enemies is just not possible without 40%+ hit weapon and/or red ring. This can be a huge issue when trying to do runs heavily reliant on specials (Demon, Hell, Excal Sacrifice) or any late game area of Episode 2 in general. This can be partially compensated by having weapons with high attribute% so he can get away with normal normal heavy / special being just strong enough to cross certain damage thresholds rather than fall behind in clear speed compared to the dedicated characters. It's why I end up calling him a luxury character most of the time. He does reasonably well in Episode 1 / 4, so it can be nice using him purely for ATP as needed when you do get some decent Hit% on him.

    FoMar can be a bit rough for sure. Takes a long time for them to really shine, but they have a lot of potential. Glad you ended up enjoying them after getting the right things to power them up. HuCast is pretty nice to use (basically just needs ATA Units, Power Mag) and can decimate things even with non rares. Have fun!

  • @CaptainGrims
    @CaptainGrims6 ай бұрын

    I'm wayyyyy in the minority here, likely because I've played HuMar so much and it was my first character ever, but it really trivializes the game. I think it's because I go for early Dex development on the mag so the start of the game is really easy. Also, it gets Resta, can use Mech Guns and Partisan is insanely safe. Being able to get way more healing out of fluids than mates is a godsend. You're just materially efficient as a HuMar. In multiplayer, non force humans can be really independent which is good because casts and forces are pretty materially inefficient which means humans can be instrumental in making sure everyone has health and Tp.

    Ephinea has a ton of QoL updates (fixed enemy drop issues, damage cancel fixes, PSO2 style drops so everyone gets loot, etc.). It also has a large number of custom quests (both event related and full time) to add variety. It keeps a very large majority of the items vanilla, but adds in things like weapon skins to give more non game impacting hunt variety.

    @@coolcat33333 There are a few things that can boost XP. First - Weekly bonuses can grant XP, rotates through rare enemy / drop rate / rare item chance. Second - There are weekly quests on rotation to give love to less played quests by giving you extra boosts for playing with at least 2 other people. Third - Special Events / Event Quests often come with boosts. Fourth - There are higher difficulties that are optional to play (Anguish) that can grant more XP in exchange for harder enemies / weaker freeze traps / nerfed demons. Semi gimmicky, but can make some normally easier runs more rewarding if you can clear fast. XP gain from specials has been capped compared to vanilla which is the only other noticeable change for XP. If you prefer not to have those boosts, there is also purist option to turn on and avoid them.

    What would be the best first Hunter for a solo player(GC)? I'm split between Hucaseal and Hunewearl. I used to play the game back in the day, so the idea of evading attacks rather than having to heal through everything, and I do like the high ATA of Hucaseal, but I keep hearing Huney is the best solo Hunter, and Casts can be lacking when it comes to solo later on in the game.

  • @ziggypigstervods

    @ziggypigstervods

    22 сағат бұрын

    @@GiggaGMikeE I would still only recommend the HuCast over the other Hunter options, in particular if the version of PSO you are playing is lacking a lot of the nice QOL female options / E4 items (Last Swan, Adept, V502, etc.). HuCaseal will always be able to brute force clear due to traps, but can be a tough solo clear character if you are looking for end game ultimate areas for item grinds. She will struggle to do serious damage to bosses due to lack of Zalure and Shifta, which can feel bad compared to playing any other class. Some of this can be compensated by playing Challenge Mode (which may or may not be an option for you). A lot of her strengths come from being able to land specials consistently, allowing for easy Hell clears while still being able to use weapons like Dark Flow for early one shots. Most of those don't exist in GameCube. She normally benefits being able to use near 0'd end game items (including challenge mode weapons) and still hit accurately compared to other characters. I like to view her as a stepping stone character in some regards to just playing a HuCast with better Hit%. You will find she may do fine on early to mid ultimate but lack the power to do anything significantly hard, like Tower, due to lack of raw ATP. HuNeweral is not a great starting character and honestly pretty lackluster even with end game gear. She has notoriously bad ATA growths and needs so many items to just function. Normal to Ultimate feels bad due to being a generalist with a more restrictive weapon set. For example - She will be below or barely matching HuCast in accuracy with none of his ATP and no traps to freeze and offset bad base accuracy issues. She has a little less of a difficulty jump compared to some of the other Hunters entering Ultimate due to having access to Debuffs. So it is slightly easier to not get overwhelmed with bad gear as you climb for the first time beyond Forest. But frankly she is still just kind of bad at those early clears compared to characters with Traps / raw ATP / Rangers / even Forces in early E1 once you get any items on those characters. If you are dead set on playing a female character that can solo on their own, RaMarl will be one of the strongest low item starts. Much higher ATA than HuNeweral, better weapon options, same ability to Debuffs / Buff. Weapons like Frozen Shooter trivialize early Ultimate clears and end up being useful in nearly every area for enemy lockdown.

    HUNewearal is an awkward class for sure. I do feel she struggles in a lot of not fully decked out scenarios comparatively: It is easier for the FoMarl to get high level buffs/debuffs in addition to being able to abuse the crazy animations on Slicer / Shotgun animation types. HUNewearal benefits more from challenge mode classics like Hell Slicer due to higher accuracy, which can lead to a clear speed advantage / consistency the FoMarl may struggle with. There are a few Hunter weapons that also heavily benefit from her accuracy, like Red Sword and Dark Flow, that FoMarl cannot use. And while her stats are not the best at base, the armor Blue Odoshi Violet Nimaidou ends up freeing up a slot for versatility and V502 / Proof of Sword Saint (though arguments can be made FoMarl has an easier time hitting caps in the first place). Generally if there are a lot of evasive enemies, HUNewearal will have a late game edge on landing specials that matter in a run. If a team already has a force, she benefits much more from the multiplayer chain Mylla Youlla, which can sometimes be the only thing that matters in the run. Shot for shot she will outdamage on some classic DPS weapons like M&A60 Vise / charge vulcan / last swan. She will always have a niche for unlocking proof of sword saint solo since she can also wield and unlock Lame d' Argent / limiter at the same time.

    Small note on the FOnewearl: you are incorrect about her defense. You said she has less than 300 at nax level and that’s incorrect. Her defense at max level is 334 base, with a cap of 390 with mats/mag points. She is still the weakest physically of all the classes, yes. But isn’t quite as bad as you painted her saying “less than 300”. Just wanted a correction for others. Have a good day.

    Fair point, think I looked at her 150 value column by accident. Her defense is still atrocious at the end of the day --- most people will never hit her max def material cap due to how much ATA and MST she needs to hit those more important caps.
