What would be the best first Hunter for a solo player(GC)? I'm split between Hucaseal and Hunewearl. I used to play the game back in the day, so the idea of evading attacks rather than having to heal through everything, and I do like the high ATA of Hucaseal, but I keep hearing Huney is the best solo Hunter, and Casts can be lacking when it comes to solo later on in the game.
@@GiggaGMikeE I would still only recommend the HuCast over the other Hunter options, in particular if the version of PSO you are playing is lacking a lot of the nice QOL female options / E4 items (Last Swan, Adept, V502, etc.). HuCaseal will always be able to brute force clear due to traps, but can be a tough solo clear character if you are looking for end game ultimate areas for item grinds. She will struggle to do serious damage to bosses due to lack of Zalure and Shifta, which can feel bad compared to playing any other class. Some of this can be compensated by playing Challenge Mode (which may or may not be an option for you). A lot of her strengths come from being able to land specials consistently, allowing for easy Hell clears while still being able to use weapons like Dark Flow for early one shots. Most of those don't exist in GameCube. She normally benefits being able to use near 0'd end game items (including challenge mode weapons) and still hit accurately compared to other characters. I like to view her as a stepping stone character in some regards to just playing a HuCast with better Hit%. You will find she may do fine on early to mid ultimate but lack the power to do anything significantly hard, like Tower, due to lack of raw ATP. HuNeweral is not a great starting character and honestly pretty lackluster even with end game gear. She has notoriously bad ATA growths and needs so many items to just function. Normal to Ultimate feels bad due to being a generalist with a more restrictive weapon set. For example - She will be below or barely matching HuCast in accuracy with none of his ATP and no traps to freeze and offset bad base accuracy issues. She has a little less of a difficulty jump compared to some of the other Hunters entering Ultimate due to having access to Debuffs. So it is slightly easier to not get overwhelmed with bad gear as you climb for the first time beyond Forest. But frankly she is still just kind of bad at those early clears compared to characters with Traps / raw ATP / Rangers / even Forces in early E1 once you get any items on those characters. If you are dead set on playing a female character that can solo on their own, RaMarl will be one of the strongest low item starts. Much higher ATA than HuNeweral, better weapon options, same ability to Debuffs / Buff. Weapons like Frozen Shooter trivialize early Ultimate clears and end up being useful in nearly every area for enemy lockdown.
@ziggypigstervods 1st Amazing video and thanks alot for responding. Based on what you said I think I'll start with a Skyly Hucast and maybe have either a ramarl or fomarl as a secondary character. Thanks again.
Your videos are brilliant mate. You’re really helping me out as I try to level up
Do you still play brother I could do with some help
Hello there. I am currently on break, but will be picking it back up closer to August.
Congrats on getting through the trilogy!
Thanks!
yo i play on a private server called Ultima, this is not that right ?
Hello there, Ultima is a different server for PSO. Good luck with the hunts!
Bookmarking this for reference when I get up to Ultimate on Ephinea. In the meanwhile dropping a like.
I'm wondering what you think of this for a Mind mag. Mag - feed one Antidote, then feed only Monofluids with a Hunter Varuna - feed Monofluids Vayu - feed Difluids, reach level 50 with one of the following three: Asparas - Ranger Vir/Sky/Purp/Red/Yellow Durga - Ranger Green/Blue/Pink/Oran/White Soma - Hunter Green/Blue/Pink/Oran/White Asparas/Durga/Soma - feed Difluids Result: 15 Def, 1 Dex, 184 Mind Farlla, Mylla & Youlla, Estilla Invincibility+, Invincibility, Invincibility- The only catch is that it must be raised to max on one of the aforementioned class/id combinations and the Force that equips it cannot feed it, or it will evolve into Ila. This would be a bit inconvenient when dying reduces Sync as it would require moving the mag around before feeding. Notes: The single point of Dex is necassary for the Mind > Dex > Pow requirement. Asparas, Durga, and Soma all learn Estilla. Hunter was chosen in order to get Farlla. Force could be chosen to instead get Leilla. Ranger could be chosen to leave the slot empty due to double Estilla sources.
For mind Mags I tend to go for the simpler Rappy Mag for a cleaner 15 Def 185 split. Faster level up, slightly more MST. There are some advantages to have a mind mag with blasts, but typically that does not become applicable when used for leveling. If I am in a more serious area, I tend to prefer the extra DEX on an average mag since it is expected for the Force to land special attacks. So I tend to hold something like a 5 DEF / 45 DEX / 150 Mind for general purposes (typically MST caps out by then).
@@ziggypigstervods Thanks. I have played the game more since my comment and realize you are right. The MST will cap and also its pretty annoying having to swap over my mag to another char to get its sync back up after a death. I think a full mind mag would probably only be useful for learning higher ranks of abilities but I don't know yet. Cheers.
As a FoMar: I never even considered asking other people for fluids!!! And it makes so much sense why I'm always broke lol
I want them to bring this game to mobie soooo bad. So many great memories back in middle school of playing PSOv1&2 online on xbox with my friends!
When i was a kid, I chose a FoMar and just liked them because I could finish off enemies with an attack I always liked the Red Mage type characters that relies on casting but can fall back on melee to conserve MP That being said, I though the game was meant to be constant suffering until I played a RaMar. "Wait, I'm not using all my items every single room... IS THIS HOW THE GAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED?!"
TTF always ruined it for me.. it was boring.. i always played alone because everyone one on the server rather run the dragon over and over.... sorry but im here to have fun not repetition, the game had enough of it already with normal play
never played pso, about what is the population of the server you play on?
There's usually 180+ people online. I've seen it as high as 250 on weekends
1-80 in 2h is crazy, can't wait to try it on Halloween. I've been helping people nuking max atk 4b on blueful vhard for exp, it's def been fun
I still have at least one Force left to level up via the Halloween cookie method, but MAE-4B is really solid for doing Ignition Cloak hunts while power leveling others. Good luck with the hunts!
I thought drop rates just depended on section id and class wasnt a factor, is there a reason to have a specific character as the i.d.?
On ephinea, every day there's a tiny random boost that varies based on class, race, and gender of your character. Otherwise the class only affects how well you can do something, and doesn't affect _what_ drops
Aside from the Fortune bonuses mentioned by Murphy, certain characters are better at clearing specific areas over others. You don't really want to be doing repeated runs with classes that don't match the hunts. Example: I often mention this in context with wanting a FONewman, who clears episode 4 easily on all difficulties. Bluefull FoNewman can hard carry a Very Hard party by himself while providing end game drops. This is not doable on a large majority of classes. Alternatively, it is so much easier to have a FoNewman for relevant Ultimate ID runs (Red, Green, Purple PoD, potentially Skyly Surface, Viridian Events) to allow for fast solo clears solo or party clears. Example: Ranger is vastly preferred in Episode 2. Due to the high reliance of Hell + Evasion of enemies, it is much easier to solo and multiplayer with a Ranger than other classes. It is common on the stream to use RaMarl over a Force even in multiplayer due to the importance of accuracy for Hell (Whitill / Pinkal Temple, Oran Spaceship). Alternatively, you will get way more out of Frozen shooter in Tower and level 20 Debuffs than a solo Force (Whitill, Purplenum). They are also the preferred boss choice with minimal gear requires of just needing an all 0'd Heaven/Striker + Cannon Rouge for boss clears (Yellowboze, Bluefull). Example: Casts can't pop boxes quickly. Doing PW3 Box hunts with them is inefficient, especially without twin blaze, over a character that can always land Hell + has a RaFoie.
@@ziggypigstervods wow thanks for the detailed response! makes sense.
Cookie quest? How does your experience say 300
Halloween Cookies let you do Halloween Quests, which have 300% experience, 150% Rare Item Drop Rate, 150% Drop Anything Rate, and 200% Rare Enemy rate, all in a high-monster-density single-room quest.
@@murphy54000can I join the on a run?
@@Vincethegoat9 I usually try to get a cookie quest at least once with new players on stream. Fortunately, there is also the October event later this year for everyone to start collecting them again.
44:30 FOmar: "Look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power" :V 48:00 Dual Bird is really awkward. If it required less ATA so that everyone could wear it, it'd be useful for Forces who can't hit with Special anyway and so just use NHH/NNH; the extra atp would be useful, there. But for rangers, Yasminkov 9000M can get hit (and also combos with Gratia for even more ATA on casts) and has rifle range (210) instead of only 120 that Dual Bird has. For reference, Handgun range is 170, normal Mechgun range is 85, and Shot range is 130. Dual Bird is theoretically useful on HUcaseal, except for two things. First, HUcaseal can already use Last Swan, which has higher range, a significantly better animation, and HUcaseal has hunter ATP, even if she's not got HUcast ATP; Last Swan is plenty. Second, Dual Bird cannot have Hit%, and also doesn't have a sacrifice special... and a very cheap (even shoppable) Charge Vulcan 50h will out-dps Dual Bird on HUcaseal, and not only is it a fraction of a fraction of the cost, you can equip it so, so much earlier. The ATP on Dual Bird would turn into an extra ~40 damage per hit, but *a single Sacrifice special will add as much per hit as Dual Bird adds per attack* on top of being more reliable to actually deal damage. And if Charge is an issue, M&A60 Vise can do the same thing with Berserk instead, even if it'll be more expensive for a high hit%.
Dual bird is definitely disappointing.
What an awesome game so many memories.
Man you should actually pick the second option and go through the middle put Fai and Yu in the valley Put Yu on tha left side and after Liu passes put Fai on the right so is makes a bottle neck put Li Li to the right of the bridge just left of the woods make sure you turn every one around so that are facing the enemy.. of course than have Zhuge help Li Li meanwhile Liu should attack Himiko how you should be able to send LI LI Zhuge up the right side around the back of Cao Cao army and attack from behind you can send Mei to reinforce Fei and Yu also if you finish himiko quick enough you can send him up the left side to help LI LI and Zhuge. And you should train so you can learn more skills faster don’t do anything else but train. Let me know if it works.
I did cmode episode 1 around the time when I got to ultimate , only had 2 characters total and took my hucast. All we had was psow maps and we only used them on mines and ruins. Had to redo some stages to hit the 7h srank(like 2 extra quests). It's not too harsh, we mostly winged it but I also took the time to watch some videos to take reference. I guess the hardest part is getting a group to do it from start to finish in different sessions haha
Why do you pause for a few seconds before attacking Olga Flow (second form)?
Attacking Olga Flow immediately results in a high damage counter attack that can often party wipe the group. By pausing, it causes the boss to skip this and take much more time before attacking, leading to nearly instant defeat for the boss at higher levels.
@@ziggypigstervods Ahh that's great. I will try this when I solo him next time. I usually just start attacking immediately haha.
wait wait no nah nah bro ziggy i am not seein u tryin to say its some what ok nah nah bro soda boy fcked up with the tekkin streight up no arguin aloud no facts on other side tekkin was been fcked?
Oh snap, I finally made it in the youtube uploads lol. Still think the cookie quest is wild.
how are you playing this game?
I am playing on this server - ephinea.pioneer2.net/
the track starting at 0:35 sounds kind of familiar :D is it from f-zero gx
I believe this was the same week of all bomberman soundtracks, but don't recall which one specifically.
regarding Monster Hunter: the further you go, the more grindy it gets, but generally what ameliorates the grind severely is that you can hunt several things at once (e.g. doing missions where your goal is to kill/capture 3 specific monsters, or 3 monsters fitting certain criteria, etc) AND, in addition to that, almost everything is some form of "get this list of: 4 bear toenails, 6 bear ears, 2 bear fangs, 2 bear fur" and *those pieces* drop fairly commonly, compared to PSO where there's long odds on the item itself, but then you get the whole item all at once when it drops. In the end it might take similar timeframes, but it just feels better (and is less prone to bad luck) in the incremental system Monster Hunter uses, even if the final drop isn't quite as exciting.
Good to know, thanks.
yes yes i knew it sucked i thought so thank u ^^
So after the recent update how do you feel about it? It's still a bit bad, and as you mentioned we could use the preferred weapons to include ep4 weapons.
After the update, I still don't like it. I'm more willing to tolerate it vs never Tekking again. As was revealed on the patch update, original rates to +10 were 55% (!!!). Still a massive downgrade and I don't think the new changes added anything to the game other than a dislike of identifying with some IDs for most rares. I am happy I protested on stream as well as the discord to get some changes in there. Just wish the lowest rates were 25% instead of 15% to make some of the off ID drops more bearable (in exchange for slightly less scaling of the preferred items). Was okay with a nerf, but still way too far compared to 5+ years of server experience. Still 100% disappointed in the people that defended and/or were neutral on the original changes. Shame on them, especially those that stated said opinion while also adding things like "I didn't tek recently but..."
?? what tekking nurfs?
So yeah, every mission has a time limit. Some are very long, while some are only a bit more than an hour. If you lose a mission via time out or just by losing all xp earned in the mission, it is maintained by both sides. This can be used to power level your characters as long as you have patience and desire. Some levels are better than others.
It was unfortunate to find out the hard way about the time limit. Fortunately, game over / time over XP does not really come up again in the later portions of the different runs since the intent was to beat things in one go where possible. There are other XP tricks that can be used in a single clear attempt, like the support arrow fire trick, that were used to keep things at a decent pace and still show off some end game abilities.
@ziggypigstervods yeah I never really knew about the arrow xp trick as I thought you had to be in battle to gain xp but I guess you gain xp in naval battles without being in combat so it makes sense. I aligns use that few m trick on my next playthrough.
Like ur style btw that Ice Storm thing is really frustrating

With the ability to use the right analog stick as a camera now, how would you go about binding your keys on the controller? 🌹🌹🌹🌹
For the time being, I don't intend to use the new optional changes. I don't see it as a big value added (in particular, due to loss of convenient inputs) for someone that has already spent years playing it a different way. I think if people really wanted to, they could replace some of the chat shortcut uses with more 0-9. Technically they can also introduce up to one more control set, involving R2 into L2, if needed. The risk is too many stacked commands can lead to mistakes in the moment (forgetting if L2 into R2 or R2 into L2 every time you take a break from the game).
@@ziggypigstervods I also noticed that I don't think the script is around anymore that allows you to rebind keys in case you didn't have those buttons. You by chance have that script lying around? I'm still in the process of figuring this out~ Just got into the game recently.

Really helpful, after years of playing this game I may finally get passed the early stages of ultimate mode! Awesome job!
29:56 So wait a second kid me has a question because I thought they were all the same chances based on the attack. Is there a difference between times in your combo when you Normal vs heavy vs special in terms of ATA? Does the H have different accuracy depending on where in the combo it is? This is news to me
PSO has an accuracy glitch known as the SN / SNS glitch on some weapons (ex. slicer, cards, mechguns). So for example - if you throw a special attack first and then use a normal attack before the special lands, the special attack uses the 2nd attack's accuracy. This means that you can have hyper accurate special attacks, since it is using normal accuracy instead of special accuracy, even on characters with bad ATA. Some characters have an advantage with weapon types that can do this, like FoMarl and slicer, due to their faster attack animations.
@@ziggypigstervods Huh, that's weird and fascinating. Thanks
@@coolcat33333 technically any weapon could do it in theory, but the damage frame from attack 1 is always faster than the projectile point from attack 2, except for those weapons.
Also, the second attack has 30% higher accuracy than the first, and the third has 30% higher than the second (or 69% higher than the first)
Funny how backlogged the PSO videos are lmao
I was trying to avoid doubling up on PSO for the most part unless it was a short video. So with all the bonus streams, it did cause a pretty big back up sadly.
Rare items are not ment to be accessible to everybody. The game is designed to be like pokemon. If the goal is to catch them all without trading, then you can use an action replay. People were cheating back then. I think the developer intent was to provide an almost infinite grind to enjoy doing runs online with friends. The goal of the game was to have no goals but gameplay fun.
I partially agree that not all rare items are meant to be obtained easily. Most rares are intended to be obtained as you climb, with generally an easier time grabbing them later rather than early rewarding those that stick around. Uber rares are in the game for people to grind for when they have already completed their character. I'm not sure I would use the word enjoy when it comes to that grind, it felt more like a financial decision to ensure people paid for the online connection / stuck around as long as possible. Most people generally have the goal of being able to beat X Ultimate quest or obtain Y item, and those that don't drop off before or shortly after clearing Ultimate.
Thanks for this Ziggy
Sad I missed this live but glad I can still see it here! Love the work keep it up and thank you for all you do!
This is awesome to see wow, blast from the past!
I've found this guide extremely useful but I'm still a bit unsure of what to do with the Cells for characters who don't want 45 Dex on their mag.
Glad you found the guide helpful. Most people use Dragon Scale as their mag cell since you only need to create a Kama Mag (lvl 50) that doesn't need to put many points in Dex. You then level the mag from 51-200 with the upgraded Cell Mag (Tellusis) since making the mag stats hit a certain number no longer matters. You also benefit from very fast mag growth rates due to the mag form, leading to much earlier maxing of mags compared to a majority of other 4th evolutions.
@@ziggypigstervods I really do appreciate the video and your reply. I'm on my first character: a Lv.42 RAcast (white) with a Lv.68 Kaitabha (43 Dex) but no Dragon Scale. So I should make it a Kama and get a Dragon scale before level 96, right? I'm not sure what level I could reasonably start farming for the Dragon Scale drop. Worst case scenario I'll get it right on my back-up mags. Thanks for the guide ^_^ Edit: I just realized I'm an idiot and I was looking at the RAcaseal...
@@simongotborg3866 I would say it can be a bit tricky to farm a dragon scale on a RaCast, even if you do VH runs, without a Force / Heaven Striker Ranger Party member. It's something you can easily pick up at higher levels doing quests like Point of Disaster, but it's not recommended as an early trade item for fresh characters (there will be a stream on this later in the month) What most people end up doing is focusing on a generic ATP mag (and create Nidra, usually with 5 Def/145 Pow/ 45 Dex / 0 Min). The downside of having slightly more Dex only really matters the last few levels of your character, giving you plenty of time to make a proper mag later. Usually people will have a few floating mags for their multiple characters anyway (ex. One near pure Mind mag for early tech learning / force climbing, with Rappy Wing > Rappy mag).
@@ziggypigstervods Yeah I've got like... 12 mags? Might not be advisable but I'm maing mags for my friends and alt characters so I'm basically mass producing Kaitabhas/Nidras.
Watching this makes me wonder if you were ever into the disgaea series at all
I did play the first few a long time ago. Preference was for D1 for story, D2 for gameplay of the ones I played. They may end up back on the discord voting poll again as a series potential (though will probably just do 1/2 since I did not enjoy 3/4 + never played beyond those).
@@ziggypigstervods 2 was my favorite. I'd say 5 is worth a shot. I'd vote for any diagaea though 👌
If I want to play PSOBB with a lot of QOL updates and something that's different from vanilla with a lot of updated custom content what private server is best for me?
Ephinea has a ton of QoL updates (fixed enemy drop issues, damage cancel fixes, PSO2 style drops so everyone gets loot, etc.). It also has a large number of custom quests (both event related and full time) to add variety. It keeps a very large majority of the items vanilla, but adds in things like weapon skins to give more non game impacting hunt variety.
@@ziggypigstervods Neat. How is the EXP rate compared to vanilla? Any exp boost compared to vanilla? This is great information thanks
@@coolcat33333 There are a few things that can boost XP. First - Weekly bonuses can grant XP, rotates through rare enemy / drop rate / rare item chance. Second - There are weekly quests on rotation to give love to less played quests by giving you extra boosts for playing with at least 2 other people. Third - Special Events / Event Quests often come with boosts. Fourth - There are higher difficulties that are optional to play (Anguish) that can grant more XP in exchange for harder enemies / weaker freeze traps / nerfed demons. Semi gimmicky, but can make some normally easier runs more rewarding if you can clear fast. XP gain from specials has been capped compared to vanilla which is the only other noticeable change for XP. If you prefer not to have those boosts, there is also purist option to turn on and avoid them.
