You made it to part 3, great job! The icing is one of the most fun parts of the donut-building process. If you are struggling to get the vertices on the drippy parts right, take a step back, breathe, and start over on the icing if you need to. There’s no rush, and they don’t need to look perfect. Just take your time. It’ll turn out great!

No1 Quick tip at 09:15 for beginners. Kindly take note so that you dont run into issues. Modifiers are applied only in Object Mode. You cant do that in Edit mode so you should take note. How to move from Edit mode to Object mode, you hit Tab or you go to the top left side of your screen below the Blender icon row, You see Edit mode, click it and then a drop down appears then you select object mode, Then you can go ahead and apply the modifier at the modifier panel. Stay blessed No.2 You might find out that when you click and drag down, Your icing still goes through the donut's body and I faced similar issue. The reason is that you didnt select the tip of the icing at the middle part (Vertexes) To get around this problem. Toggle to X Ray mode. This is at the top right conor of your viewport on top of the axis gizmo or XYZ axis indicator. You see 2 boxes, and 3 globes. choose the 2 boxes icon so you can see the vertexes and you would immediately notice that you didnt select the middle vertex or the tip of the icing.

For those who are still having the issue with the icing going through the donut, I found a solution by clicking on the "Snap" menu and checking the "Project individual elements" box. I just want you to know that I am an art student in college, pursuing an animation degree. My Illustration teacher actually recommended I watch your tutorials and learn blender since I am ahead of the class. This is to help me make a pub scene for an animatic I am working on, so that I don't have to be fussing around with perspective in the drawing process. This is so clear and easy to follow! I hear about Blender being a nightmare, and maybe it has something to do with me being an art student in college, but I actually find this to be less intimidating than I ever thought it would be thanks to you!

Thanks for another great tutorial! I have a few tips for people running into problems: 1. If the bottom edge of the icing is hidden inside the donut body, you can select the bottom edge to scale it up a little bit on x-y plane. 2. The key combintation to select more on my PC is control-numpad +, not control-+ 3. Some of my icing was clipped by donut body after I pulled down the bottom edge. I selected a vertex on icing, and used ALT-S with proximity editing to push it out to fix the clipping. I struggled a lot with the icing part in the previous version of this tutorial. This version is much better on a few details, I had far less trouble to follow along. Well done!

Unlike many other tutorials that always either skip over crucial detail like how to even start editing the node, or always goes too slow and tells you each individual step like (move your mouse. Click on the left mouse button. Move away from the button.) etc, your ones are perfect. While some of the keybinds aren't the same as on my computer, a simple search easily fixes these problems. It's funny to be back to watching Blender videos. It was one of the first software packages I learned several years ago when I was starting my 3D journey. I didn't stick with it because I was told that Maya was necessary to get a job in the industry. So, I learned Maya. Then, I got my first 3D job, which is where I still work now, and come to find out that the department uses 3DS Max. So, I Iearned Max. Now, Blender has received exponentially more updates and improvements than Maya and Max and is accepted in the industry. I'm tired of paying a lot of money on software subscriptions and dealing with rigid/limited functionality. So, now I'm learning Blender again, but with great gratitude for such organized and clear tutorials. Thank you for making these great videos and putting them out there for everyone to benefit from!

Hiii 😁 , If you are having trouble creating a wavy edge (at 13:05) and you do not have a mouse or are having trouble with your mouse wheel, you may notice that moving vertices affects everything. This is because the Proportional Editing Influence radius has not been decreased, causing everything to move by default. To fix this, simply use the mouse wheel (the most optimal method) or press Page Up to increase and Page Down to decrease the radius. Once you have done this, you can shape the icing as desired .

I inadvertently started watching the 3.0 series I had zero issues. I don’t know if it was because you use a different scale or the fact that you cut the donut in half and then duplicated the top but I made it all the way to geometry nodes today in about 3.5 hours! I even downloaded the blender add-on from your site and it worked perfectly. Thanks for everything.

Something I learned from CG Fast Track Instead of duplicating with Shift + D Try using Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste your object in. This is good if your object has materials on it and you want to not only copy the object but it's exact materials as well. This method will guarantee that. If your mesh is still just a mesh though and you haven't put any materials on it or your copied objects, either method will work.

If you find that the bottom of your icing mesh is hiding beneath the donut after editing a vertex, you can fix it by resnapping the entire outside bottom row of vertices to the face of the donut. You do this by Alt + Click a vertex on the bottom row which should select the entire ring. Then change your snapping to "Face nearest" once you edit it will snap to the closest face, which would by the outside of the donut on it's corresponding side. If you snap with "Face Project" it will take all the vertices and snap them towards the face you're looking at. Once you hit the edit button "G" everything will snap to the face accordingly and then you can left click to commit the snapping.

Don't forget to apply your Subdivision Surface modifier. To do that, go to your Modifiers, click on the little arrow on the top right and hit "Apply" When you first copy and form your icing, it's not going to have a lot of vertices. If you apply your Subdivision Surface modifier to add more vertices, you'll have more mesh to work with and you'll notice you have more control. Don't give up. There's going to be a lot of instances where you spend 30 minutes to an hour finding out something stupid. It's all part of the process unfortunately. People like myself will do our best to help, but some things you just have to keep at it to figure out. I believe in you all.

I'm going to sound like I'm nitpicking, because I am. As a brand new user, I need meticulous explanation of things which isn't happening. You speak and move a little too fast and didn't explain the fact that as you add modifiers they stack up in the lower right hand window. Also, I'm not sure, but if you have a modifier like subdivision already assigned to an object, you can go back and scroll through the lower right hand window and find that Modifier and hit APPLY to add more subdivisions to that object, correct? Instead why can't you type in a new value for the amount of vertices if you want more? Hitting apply seems to be adding another instance of the same operation you've already done to the object. This app has non-destructive editing, correct?
