The A45 AMG engines are hand built at the affalterbach factory, but yep your right, some of the standard A class have Renault engines.

I’ve worked for several main dealers… every single one of them I can honestly say have done a worse job than an independent specialist would… the money they charge for a stupid stamp is outrageous… what most don’t realise is that most main dealer technicians are on a bonus incentive scheme.. if the job is done quicker than the book time that’s been quoted.. there’s a bonus for him/her. Ever been rung on a service & told you need a brake fluid change?… Yeah… that bottle of dot 4 he booked out went in the bin. Unless you’ve worked in these places… you’ll Always be naive enough to think they’re giving you the best quality of service. Wrong. Go to a specialist regardless of what car you drive. If it’s out of warranty.. DO IT YOURSELF!

On top of that, you have customers bringing their cars in for things like tracking paying an hour labour, £140 plus vat an hour. Only to have 18 year old me doing it with 2 months experience and an apprentice wage of £4 an hour. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I realised pretty quick things aren't what they seem at main dealer 😂

I used to work for merc, there is no C Service. Just A (minor) & B (Major) services, gearbox is services every 5 years or 77,500 miles & it’s once a year or every 15,000 miles 👍🏻 top cars though, if the gearbox makes a noise when going from D to N to R it more than likely needs gearbox oil as the cigs in the gearbox won’t be properly lubricated causing it to shave the metal down on the cogs every time it switches between

Ah did I say C service? Only meant A / B. Yeah couple people I know have had the gearbox problem. Apparently there is an official document from mercedes for there technicians on how to fix it so it is a well known issue. Brilliant car though! Thanks for watching!

I have a 2015 GLA45 AMG, when I go from P to D and when I am going to a stop, I hear a clunk. I read somewhere that it is the DCT and the sound is more noticeable in cold weather. It is a not a crunching noise, it is a clunk. Is it normal?

@@TheLondonCarScene Been tossing and turning between a45 and focus rs for a while, only worries have been what you pointed out in this video. Ie. servicing, maintenance, mods etc. but atm it’s looking like the amg is a go.

03:18, whilst it'll be expensive to service I think it's such a cliche to say that it'll have £50K running costs. There are a huge number of cars out there for that price and their running costs vary hugely.

Love these cars, I would love to get one for my next (2nd car) when I decided to change cars sometime in the future :D Sadly not many of these in Ireland so would probably have to import one from the UK despite the cost increase due to Brexit, one thing I have wondered about is if its a semi automatic, it can driven all the time in full Automatic can't it?

Hi David, what car do you have currently? Yes full semi automatic the pre face lift model has 3 different modes comfort and sport which are complelty automatic or Manual mode which does exactly what it says on the tin 🤣

buy a pre face model...i strongly advice you dont and buy late 2015 begin 2016 and onward models.

Hey hi, Tell me I'm French and I have trouble understanding English :) What are you saying about the automatic gearbox? because I have a 45 amg cla from the beginning of 2016 and the gearbox has been changed under warranty at 40,000km because I heard a noise at low speed when I accelerated but the problem is still there and when cold the gearbox jerks in the downshifting from 2 to 1 ... and also a dull noise in the rear axle when re-accelerating, this car disappointed me for my 1st mercedes no noise like that with a bmw for example .... I don't know if the facelift solved all these problems ...

Hi, the issue im explaining in the video is the gearbox making a cluncking noise while in natural it might be worth checking to see if your gearbox does this and the gearbox will definitely need replacing. There is a video on KZread i will see if I can find it.

@@TheLondonCarScene Ok me I had this problem when switching from N to R, thump with a jerk, and also jerks when downshifting from 2 to 1 when stopping and noises at low speed like in my video between 1500 and 2000 laps giving light gas strokes ... apparently according to a specialist it would be a game of operation at the output of the transmission, I find it a little abused for a car at 75000euros .. for my part they have me put a standard exchange box and it is exactly the same .... to believe that the construction of the box is like that .... can be that on the facelift more worries? Do you crash and thump in the rear axle when you accelerate sharply after turning off the throttle?

Mine is a 2014 they had a face lift in 2016, simlar issues but not as common as the pre face lift. if I knew when I was buying then I would of gone for the FL so try go 2016 onwards if possible.

Here in Australia, the stealerships offer a capped-price service for the first 3 years where you only pay a fixed amount regardless of the type of service carried out. The capped price is $1100 AUD for the A45. The only PHYSICAL thing performed in this service is an engine oil & filter change, that is all. If you read the invoice correctly, everything else on the list carried out is checking different parts of the car, nothing else is physically done! For all we know they did not even carry out these checks and just copy, paste this section onto every invoice. Imagine paying $1100 for an oil change. That costs $300 at a private mechanic. Whatever you do not take your Merc back to the dealership for anything unless it's for free under warranty!

Dont be put off, honestly the pros outway the cons. Just keep ontop if servicing and dont rag it from cold and your be fine.

Yes, although will likely affect the sell on value, mine had previous full merc history so just decided to keep it like that.

yeah the calipers are expensive!

Wow didnt know that about the gear box but A car is a car weither it's a s3 or amg just take it to a garage you trust buy all the parts yourself oils and pads online so it's cheaper then all you pay for is fitting no brainer ?

This is true although I wanted to keep mine as full mercedes service history, personal preference really.

Just take the A45 AMG to a independent MB specialist, they only charge around half for the major service, did you mention that a service should be done every 1 year?

Hi, I have a CLA 45. Have you had any issues with rear suspension or ball joints yet? I get a banging noise once in a while especially backing up a hill. I thought it was the struts and replaced that, wasn’t it.

Hi, not from the rear, I do have a clicking noise when going up a hill and turning left. Took it to the garage and they couldn't seem to find any problems.

The London Car Scene, mine is going in on Friday and I’ll keep an update. It’s probably a ball joint or a connecting rod I’m guessing. The only major thing that ever happen so far, my rear diff broke around 60k miles... that was fun but I was able to find one in a wrecked 45 for $700, so lucky.

Dealership services are full of shit. I've worked at Mercedes so I know what I'm on about. If it's out of warranty do it yourself

BMW dealership wanted 19k to service my car. I did it myself for 5,800 USD
