Just a heads up, if you are over 65 you can hike the trail providing you have the medical certificate and are fit. I completed it about a week before you at 71 with my husband of 68. He completed it in January with 2 septuagenarians. Love your posts!

Thanks for the info! I'm glad that there is a bit of leeway built into the system. Many people are still very fit at 65.

Everyone needs a medical now. We did the Otter Trail at the end of March 2022 and on 1st April 2022 Sanparks changed it that everyone needs a medical. We are doing the Otter again next week and we all needed a medical (including the teens).

Nice. 1) Plan carefully Day 4 when you must cross the big river. 2) Braai wood supplied is very 'salty' and battles to ignite so bring plenty firestarters (Blitz). 3) Although this trail is following the coast at an Altitude of 5m above sea level (give or take) do not be fooled that you are walking a flat path for over 40km, it is continous stairs up and then down and then up and then down (non stop). 4) Not all streams are safe drinking water, some are from communities higher up where some people use them as bathrooms. They are clearly marked on the map before you depart, so take note 👍 Thanx Ruth 😀
