Sir hello I have some questions about the lab report on spectrophotometric analysis of the percentage of cranberry juice in cranberry apple juice 1)Using the entire set of percentages of pures cranberry juice in cranberry apple juice ,what is the overall averages, standard deviation and ranges of percentages of pure cranberry juice? Given concentration(%) and absorbance(A) 5%=0.04 10%=0.22 15%=0.40 20%=0.55 25%=0.68 30%=0.90 2)if apple juice has a non zero absorbance at the lamda max,how would this affect your calculations in calculating the percent cranberry in cranberry apple?would you calculations report a percent cranberry that is too high or too low?

I have to get the concentration of an unknow solution using dilutions I have the wavelength, the absorbance. I made 5 dilution ex: 2ml water 3 ml unknow soln 0.746 absorbance 810 wavelength how do I get the concentration

  • @chempatenaude

Ismael: You'll have to calculate the concentration (C2) in each of your 5 dilutions using C1V1 = C2V2. Then create a scatterplot on Excel or a graphing calculator ... Absorbance (y-axis) vs Concentration (x-axis). Find the equation of the line of best fit for your graph (linear regression ... trendline on Excel). Use that equation from your graph along with the absorbance of your unknown solution to calculate its concentration.

A Beer’s law plot is linear when Absorbance is plotted against concentration. Most devices today will display the absorbance value for you. But if you have a device which displays percent transmittance instead, that formula will convert your transmittance values into absorbance values for graphing.

I have an unknown solution where my professor said the absorption is 0.85 and the path length is 1cm what is the consentration of the unknown solution? What you showed here on the calculator confused me because i only have 1 number how am i supposed to find the concentration? Also my professor doesnt use or allow the use of graphing calculators so i got confused as to find the slope so i can make my equation. I also need to use that equasion to find the extinction co efficient and the molar absorbtivity. So i cant figure out anything until i can understand how to find a I was given a graph and a bunch if questions and my professor didnt explain much he just gave me equasions with little explanation of how to do it im teaching myself. Its all due tomorrow so its not going to help me now but hopefully your explanations can help in my next lab.

Josh: Do you have a graph of absorbance versus concentration plotted? Or do you have a data table instead and have to make your own graph? Once you have the graph you just need to find the equation of the straight line. You can do this using technology like a graphing calculator. You can also enter the data on a spreadsheet program like Excel or Google Sheets and perform linear regression there. You can also find the equation of the line by hand. You would pick two points on your line and determine the slope of the line. Then using your slope and one of your two points that you picked, you can calculate the Y intercept of the line. Now you have the equation of your line. Plug-in the absorbance value into your equation and calculate the concentration.

  • @chempatenaude

Anjala: do you have several solutions of known concentration and known absorbance at a certain wavelengths? If so, you make a Beer’s law graph of absorbance versus concentration and should find a straight line. Use the equation of that straight line, along with the absorbance value of your unknown solution, to calculate the concentration of the solution.

@@chempatenaude sir. I have five different solution having a particular organic compound in it. But I don't know the concentration of that compound in it. I want to know the concentration of that compound in these five samples. How can I know the concentration? Should I make a linear graph of these five compounds. , get equation, use the value of equation in A=ECl.,...............(1) C=A/El................(2) Take absorbance of first compound (from raw data from uv visy spectrophotometer) and put the value of equation and get conc.of one compound by putting value in eqn( 2) Take absorbance of second compound and put the value of same equation and get conc. of sec.compound Take absorbance of third compound and put the value of same equation and get conc. I performed “linear regression” on the data in order to find the equation of the line of best fit. I used the graphing calculator to do this. You could also do it using a spreadsheet like Microsoft excel. You could also find the equation yourself by first drawing a line on your graph. Then pick two points on that line and find the slope and y-intercept. .الغيث النافع
