Gotta love young Alfie! Cute and clever even if he's a bit of a mischief!
Great video Alastair sorry about your scanning results
Preg test day for us is just as nervous as winter crop yield assessments for us when we sell our winter crops on DM. All the work goes into it and all comes down to the results on the day. Keep up the good work on your farm, your videos are great and really appreciate the time you take to do these on your already busy days.
Hey Alistair , sorry to hear about the low peg testing results...hoping there's brighter days ahead 🤞 for you guys ...was very impressed with the smooth way the new cattle crush operated , your sure to see the benefit's with your cattle handling 👍. Shout out to Te-Pari 💪.
Sorry to hear your results Alistair, but so long as there appears or becomes a reason, knowledge for the future.
Another great video. I love learning the methods you are using with your cattle and sheep.

Scanning didn't turn out well but hopefully you'll find out why and get it remedied.
The Taimate Angus look good, are bred on hill country so may handle your conditions a bit better, especially if your current bulls are grown out on flattish land, crops etc .... just watched country calender.
Sorry about youre results can’t get it right every time and if it was that easy everyone would do it don’t be hard on youre self and hopefully things will turn out for the better. good luck boss

Sorry about the scanning result Alistair with it being the first and second calvers was it embryo lost after 42 days in calf from being pushed hard have been there had a poor scan result myself few years back annoying thing is still not fully sure why.

Dont think it was a loss as they were not pushed at all during mating.
Another great vidoe mate. I know it is more of a dairy farming practice but why don't we.tail paint the beef cows when putting them out with the bulls.
@kiwifarmernz
Жыл бұрын
Tail paint is used to see if they are cycling. The cows will ride each other which will rub it off. We need a big bull sized ram harness.
@phillipstephens578
Жыл бұрын
🤔 yeah that sounds like a great idea. With the tail paint we could see if the cows are still cycling after the bull has gone. Not sure trying to think of a solution.🤔🤔
Great technology but i was wondering if you could tell me your reasons for not applying pour on from the withers to tailhead. I teach our team to do that and was wanting to know if this technique has been outdated. Thanks
@kiwifarmernz
Жыл бұрын
That is the correct technique. For these ones it is hard to do that in the crush and the drench comes out so fast. 🤷
I can make you feel better. 2 bulls 70 mixed age cows 8 week joining. 80% empty. Both bulls broke down ….. Rest of herd 92% ptic. Gets everyone except the skites.

Thats a big hit to take.
Have they put MRNA in the stock vaccines over there yet ? Because pregnancy rates have plummeted world wide since the Covid MRNA vaccines were administered. Last year in Australia was the lowest conception rate percentage wise ever.

Dont really need it on the farm. all of the tech is bluetooth or wired connections. Farm IQ can upload once I come home to wifi
Hope you sort out the low pregnancy results with the heifers Alistair. Really feel for you Mate as we can see the disappointment in your body language. Not your usual cheerful self. But hey that’s farming 👍

@@kiwifarmernz thanks. I swap between boss and cydectin for withholdings. Ben is a good vet he made a animal health plan for my mob and it seems to be working with good results at scanning. Only had 1 unaccounted empty where the others were known due to late calving so not cycling when out with the bull. Makes for more culls but will tighten up cycles after this season

👀🙄🐾👍Do you fertility check the bulls maybe run 2 bulls rather than 1 with your heifers and second calvers

We havent fertility check bulls in the past , Defiantly running 2 bulls per mob from now on.
