My condolences
Slicing the meat when it has only been defrosting for an hour is the secret to thin slices! If fully defrosted, the meat is too soft to hold up to slicing thinly. Nice to see you mention this good tip!!
My dad took me fishing inthe 80's in Buenos Aires for 3 days days non stop, he probably caught over 200 yellow corvinas. We brought all the catch back home and sun dried them in the backyard for days. I remember we ate them all in 2 years. Good times.
I finally got an Asian market in my town. It carries almost everything I need to make Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai food. I can’t believe how much the prices of rice, fish sauce and bamboo are now.
I’ve been watching you and learning how to cook with your recipes since I was 15, helping my mom cooking. Now I’m 22 and I still use your recipes for my lunches. So delicious, it never disappoints.
In Louisiana we have a thick stew called Gumbo. It was originally a pot of whatever was available live crab, shrimp, oysters, homemade sausages, orka, onions, celery, garlic bell pepper. All stwed down in athick stockade with dark brown roux which is equal parts neutral flavored oil and all purpose flour. The roux is cooked in a black iron dutch oven stirring constantly on medium high until it is dark brown and smooth. Add vegetables and brown well, add stock and whisk until thick. Turn the heat to low. Gumbo can be made with smoked chicken, duck, seafood, or even just smoked sausage and okra. So good filling, and warms you all the way through.

@@Maangchi yes it's my favorite winter/fall warming stew. I like seafood gumbo, but smoked duck and homemade andouille sausage gumbo is my favorite.
Just made this last night fot dinner and it was a hit!!! So delicious! I just moved to Florida and found a Korean gtocery store here that was playing your videos. 🤣 Everyone loves you, Maangchi! ❤️

I ordered both of your cookbooks and recieved the first one already. I knew nothing of Korean cooking till I found your channel here on KZread,now Im obsessed lol. All your recipes are so easy to follow and your enthusiasm for the food you are cooking makes people more keen to try. Everyone I know has heard of Maangchi!! :)) Now I have to add soybean paste to my shopping list so I can try to make this stew!

This is my favourite Korean dish! I learned it when I lived in South Korea for a year while teaching. I used to start it by boiling anchovies! Very new to me. I think she made another video using this style. This is the best soup! So delicious.

This is actually my go to dinner on Saturday once a month. I make a double batch so I have dinner on Saturday, lunch on Sunday, and freeze the rest for later if I don’t have time to make a fresh batch. It’s so delicious every time. Your videos always inspire me to cook more, I think I’m going to have some fun in the kitchen this weekend!

Maangchi, thank you, I use up gochujang before doenjang and this recipe was welcomed. First try( trust your recipe no doubt) made a big pot full by your instructions. Wonderful meal and so balanced in flavors! Kept leftover very cold and reheated carefully with a bit more doenjang and green onion garnish…never tired of it all week for different meals, breakfast, dinner, supper, snack! So very good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I made this yesterday, and the recipe doubles perfectly! I substituted some mushrooms that *had* to get used instead of tofu, and it still worked like a charm. The flavor of doenjang is so good, even my partner who hates zucchini had seconds! I feel like I could eat this every day forever. Thank you, Maangchi!

When I opened my page you were my first cooking page I subscribed to and 12 yrs later I see how big your channel is and how well you are doing. I lived and grew up next to koreatown, so I learned to love korean food. Now I can make some of the recipes myself, although I have found a great restaurant in Sacramento where we are now living. I tried beef doenjang-jjigae when I was connecting flight at Incheon Airport. And I loved it so much. It was so delicious. Now I can make it myself. Thank you so much for the recipe!!
You can also usually get pre-shaved beef in the meat section of most grocery stores. They are packaged for cheese steaks.
Wow! Thank You! I love this recipe and I have all the ingredients (even the fermented soybean paste) except squash and tofu, which I will get so I can do this right. Your stew is to my taste. Yummy!
