The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This was an eye-opener for me. I knew the Bee Gees only as a disco band until my freshman year in college when one of my dorm-mates happened to be watching a "Best of Ed Sullivan" retro show, and this sequence appeared. With their elegant appearance, the row of violins, the French horn, and a very young and fresh-faced Barry Gibb, I couldn't believe this was the same band that had brought us the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack. The Bee Gees really knew how to reinvent themselves according to the times and go full force with any musical style. Thanks for posting. Rest in peace, Maurice, Robin and Andy.

The other thing about Barry Gibb, he has that charm and stage presence in anything that he sings and wears on stage that is effortless. This man could come out performing in a hefty bag and I still would think he's sexy. Then all the fuss on the Saturday Night Fever album seems to overshadow all of the other great albums they put out before and after. The Bee Gees were so much more this one album. I wish critics would stop pigeonholing the Bee Gees as a Disco group. I like the fact that they can have funk, soul, R&B, soft rock and country songs all on one album. Examples of this are albums Main Course, Children of The World and Spirits Having Flown.

I have always loved the Bee Gees since 1969 when I was 11yo. I always sang with them when I heard them on the radio despite I didn't speak English. My older sister wrote down the lyrics for me 😀 Barry has always been my favorite Bee Gee. I love his voice ! Now; since watching them on KZread ; I defenitely love Robins Angelic voice too ; it touches my heart & soul. I cried when the siblings passed away. It must be hard for Barry , he must miss his 3 brothers a lot . Greetings to you all ! A big fan from East-Flanders in Belgium.
