The Bee Gees were a pop music group formed in 1958. Their lineup consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a popular music act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the mid-to-late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid-to-late 1970s and 1980s. The Bee Gees wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.
Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester, England, until the late 1950s. There, in 1955, they formed the Rattlesnakes. The family then moved to Redcliffe, in Queensland, Australia, and then to Cribb Island. After achieving their first chart success in Australia as the Bee Gees with "Spicks and Specks" (their 12th single), they returned to the UK in January 1967, when producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience.
The Bee Gees have sold more than 220 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the presenter of the award to "Britain's first family of harmony" was Brian Wilson, historical leader of The Beach Boys, another "family act" featuring three harmonising brothers. The Bee Gees' Hall of Fame citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees."
Following Maurice's death in January 2003, at the age of 53, Barry and Robin retired the group's name after 45 years of activity. In 2009, Robin announced that he and Barry had agreed the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again. Robin died in May 2012, aged 62, after a prolonged struggle with cancer and other health problems, leaving Barry as the only surviving member of the group's final line-up.

I love them. Robin is my favorite.
Robins voice is haunting in this song. The Bee Gee's fully understood rock vocal harmonies like The Beatles and Beach Boys.
I can't stop listening to them I'm I'm love with Robin he's still amazing

Pre-disco BeeGees were incredible. They were still great in the disco era, but people forget how great they were before that.

I only discovered the Bee Gees at abut 10 years old, in 1975 with "Nights On Broadway", and I loved it. ( Not just because it's a great song, but I look forward to the Robin solo...such a unique voice.) Then, like you said, disco hit, and I still loved them, but thanks to KZread, I have discovered their older stuff, and they're my favorite Bee Gee's songs. (Along with "Alone", which is one of my favorites. Much like Nights On Broadway, there is the Robin solo that I look forward to.)

Agree. He had that special quality to his extraordinary voice. Barry was very good and Maurice did backing vocals more often. But Robin was the best, undoubtedly.

See, I always thought I was unique in loving Robin's voice. I felt that Barry was more their "lead" singer, and that's who most people probably preferred. I love Barry's voice, regular, or falsetto. (Preferably regular). Anyways, I've always felt that Robin's voice, even though always on pitch, had an odd sound, almost like he was singing into a can. That may sound negative, but it's not. It's what made it so compelling, and so unique. I've always loved it. I just didn't realize that I wasn't the only one.
Sometimes I really wish that time travel was possible. I would go to the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's just to be part of the Bee Gees sensation at the height of their career. 😡
Robin had the voice of the angels. I miss him so much.

I think this was the very last song Robin ever sang live?🤔 He sang it with the soldiers in the British military. I think it's called Robin Gibb Singing With The Soldiers. Robin was so tiny and frail at that point. He passed away soon afterwards. Total love and respect for Mr. Robin Hugh Gibb.💜💜💜

What is it about Robin fans that so often they want to single him out separate and apart from the group as a whole. You don't see Barry or Maurice fans going to those lengths like that which is especially odd given that Barry typically sang lead and his falsetto is what led to the bands hallmark sound.

This is a masterpiece. Absolutely perfect. Vocals, story, arrangement, etc.... I was born 6 years after this came out.....and I've been singing this my whole life. Even as a small child I knew this was special. God Bless the Souls of all the Bee Gees.
