Such memories. I waited on him at a 5 star hotel for a few days out at the pool in Az around 1995. He asked if I was going to see the show that night. I mentioned saying I’d love to, but sadly I didn’t have tickets. He pulled 2 front row tickets from his wallet and gave me a hug. I was thrilled! It was a rotating stage and as it turned during one of the songs, he pointed at me smiling and dedicated the song to me. I’ll never forget it.

WISH THIS REALLY DID GET ANSWERED BY NEIL; CAN'T FIND HIS A&R PEOPLE; TOO MUCH RED TAPE! NICE that some things don't grow old; Such as Decent Singers ? YES BUT the good news is he's actually lip-syncing to his OWN VOICE RECORDING! We have to judge artists in their "areas of endeavor"...too many video producers making CLICK BAIT ON GOSSIP though about personal STUFF? Elvis developed Vegas Throat.... all of those extra performances, for the money ? Wow, interpretation and imagination? HE'S SINGING ABOUT "BEING ALONE." The female counterpart to this song might be Allison Krauss's " All Alone am I...?" The "other King" got involved in drugs and the Vegas Throat Syndrome. Back in a "time" when microphones weren't meant to be screamed into? YES..and a song "about nothing but being alone?" LYRICAL CONTENT. Well, I' d put him up there with "uniquely" his own voice; not sure about the "vocalist status?" Much like a Dylan--"uniquely Neil.?" (Distinctively Neil-I'd say.) I AM, waiting for a great parody on this song; ha. Ha.."not even the chair ?" guess the chair wasn't even AWARE... I know I know, but this is one of the biggest songs about NOTHING we've ever hear! Neil wouldn't think "LA's fine" were he come come visit again? I remember the manager at the Encino Golf Course said upon auditioning one day; "Do you do songs "like " Neil Dimond?" And I said "well, yes but nobody does Neil Diamond LIKE Neil Diamond!" Ha. Neil has Parkinsons, diagnosed in 2018. He had to cancel his tour dates. A legend tragically intercepted. We will "Remember You" N.D., seeing your Broadway musical, A Beautiful Noise, andlistening to your classics & newer music you are writing. Source, Anthony Mason Interview, March, 2023. We love you Neil Diamond !
@aileenfalcone7898
11 ай бұрын
Well, it is not letting me edit...the Anthony Mason interview was on CBS Sunday Morning (USA-you can play back episodes, or Google the interview), around the end of March 2023, where Neil shared from the heart. It is very sad. He was so humble about his plight. I was hoping he could go on with touring in retrospect, wondering before, if he even had plans to...and he sure did. Also, that he could go into his 90's like Burt Bacharach. So many of our music, movie & Broadway legends are crossing over; we all know if they are blessed with long life & continued success, the time will come...but being famous doesn't make us immune from the struggles we all have in life, but in N.D.'s case, I sure wish it did.

One of the most beautiful songs by one of the best singers of all time. Although he clearly struggled with lyric writing, he could make any song a masterpiece by the emotion and technical mastery he imbued into his singing. He is also one of the few true baritones to make it big after the 60s. There's a moving backstory behind this particular song about his struggle with his sense of identity and emotional health that helps to clarify the somewhat disfluent refrain.

Songs are written with meaning and it’s up to the listener to interpret. It’s how it makes us feel. When I listen to this song I feel the loneliness of a man on the road between the two coasts. To me it’s totally about loneliness and not self identity. But others may interpret it differently.

L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time And the feeling is "lay back" Palm trees grow and rents are low But you know I keep thinkin' about Making my way back Well I'm New York City born and raised But nowadays I'm lost between two shores L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home New York's home But it ain't mine no more "I am"... I said To no one there And no one heard at all Not even the chair "I am"... I cried "I am"... said I And I am lost and I can't Even say why Leavin' me lonely still Did you ever read about a frog Who dreamed of bein' a king And then became one Well except for the names And a few other changes If you talk about me The story is the same one But I got an emptiness deep inside And I've tried But it won't let me go And I'm not a man who likes to swear But I never cared For the sound of being alone "I am"... I was about fifteen in this period and was being so carried away with the hard rock bands of the day that Neil Diamond seemed kind of less hip and less cool at the time, but boy do I appreciate him now. It's like I'm re-discovering a gem that I sort missed out on when he was in his prime.

I’ve been a fan since the mid 60s, and now I’m in my mid 60s. Song after song…his music was part of the background of my life. Shilo and Solitary Man mean the most…I used to dream of having a Shilo in my life, but I ended up the solitary man.

people forget, just how HUGE Neil Diamond was, when he first came out of nowhere. you look at guys that attained this "good performer, good songwriter, good lookin guy" tag, more recently and if you were of age when Diamond became huge, you realize how his influence, opened doors, for cats like Sting, Bruno Mars and Lionel Richie.

We will "Remember You" N.D., seeing your Broadway musical, A Beautiful Noise, andlistening to your classics & newer music you are writing. Source, Anthony Mason Interview, March, 2023. We love you Neil Diamond !

An iconic song sung by a classic troubadour. Doesn't get better.
Such a beautiful voice, listening to him brings back memories of so many happy times
It's 4 December 2023, and here, I'm trying to fall asleep while listening to Neil Diamonds songs on KZread.

One of my favorite Neil Diamond songs. Really resonated with me!

I said To no one there And no one heard at all Not even the chair "I am"... I cried "I am"... said I And I am lost and I can't Even say why "I am"... I said "I am"... I cried "I am"

Hello Cathy how are you doing today?
I was 8 when this song and another song were all over the radio
I was about fifteen in this period and was being so carried away with the hard rock bands of the day that Neil Diamond seemed kind of less hip and less cool at the time, but boy do I appreciate him now. It's like I'm re-discovering a gem that I sort missed out on when he was in his prime.
Wow, he was stunning.
Amazing.. his voice and lyrics are amazing. Thank you Neil 👏

Hello Judith how are you doing today??
See now this guy can sing better than Jeff Lynn of ELO!
I’ve been a fan since the mid 60s, and now I’m in my mid 60s. Song after song…his music was part of the background of my life. Shilo and Solitary Man mean the most…I used to dream of having a Shilo in my life, but I ended up the solitary man.
SAME HERE!❣️I JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THIS GREAT SINGER!❣️❣️❣️
Love all his song great singer 😊

His music is amazing, it was pleasure seeing him in concert even better
people forget, just how HUGE Neil Diamond was, when he first came out of nowhere. you look at guys that attained this "good performer, good songwriter, good lookin guy" tag, more recently and if you were of age when Diamond became huge, you realize how his influence, opened doors, for cats like Sting, Bruno Mars and Lionel Richie.
Lord he is so beautiful with a voice that melts you😮❤

❤️ One Of The Best Songs Ever Written , Beautfully Sung Lyrics ❤ 29 August 2023 ❤
Changing LA to Italy and NY to Albania,if you talk about me,the story is the same one. When I was young I loved that song but I didn't imagine it predicted my future.😢
This is The Man!
Wunderschöner Hübscher Mann ✨🌻🤍✌️🌞🦋💎 Super 👍 🎤
Dubbed, and faded out, and I still liked it.
