He was so modest. They all were great solo singers but, yes, they were magical and incomparable together. And that was just singing. They were phenomenal composers and song writers

I love this song. Barry's soft ballad tone, Robin with his vibrato, and Maurice just finds the perfect harmony.

Morris was an absolute talent in his own right.

Each brother had a great voice by themselves but together they were the BEE GEES

Mo has joked many times about this song as the man in the middle because he was sometimes the peace maker. But if you listen his solo of Closer Than Close you can find his attempt to save his marriage because of his alcoholism.

One of the most beautiful songs that they have ever wrote. Robin sounds angelic.

Mo was so good. He was the glue Barry said it many times.

A lot of people don't know that Robin didn't play an instrument on stage except in a few videos but he could play the piano, organ, melotron , guitar and other instruments. He and his son RJ Gibb wrote the Titanic Requiem but Robin was unable to go to the premiere because he was too sick.

Barry and Robin used to get into disagreements and Mo always tried his best to keep the peace between them.

Masters of harmony...precise, smooth, clear, and you can understand every word. How could anyone ever tire of those beautiful voices!?!

I had the priviledge of meeting Maurice once here in Miami, and he was such an awesome guy and took time to speak to a fan....RIP awesome DUDE

I think people believe that Maurice was hard done by by not singing more solos. He sang beautiful high harmonies, he arranged most of the songs down through the years, he played bass and keyboard (self taught) and had a beautiful voice too. Barry and Robin were amazing but Maurice completed the group. Barry once said that he and Robin sang melody and Mo instinctively knew where the harmonies would fit in. He was a genius and I don't think he was unhappy with his place in the band. Lovely reaction, thanks.

Miriam Kirk - @ 1:40 is a perfect example of what you said. Two amazing lead singers, Barry softer and bluesy, Robin powerful and soulful and the Maurice comes in with the perfect harmony and piano to make the magic complete. At times their voices could be indistinguishable when they sang together as only sibling genetics can do and all three could switch from tenor to baritone to falsetto. A Robin girl here but I know the magic was when the three brothers blended.

@@susieq9801 yes you describe Barry's and Robin's voices to a tee. Robin's wife describes his voice as ethereal and angelic especially when she would wake in the middle of the night and hear him putting ideas for a new song on paper that had just come to him. It's all in the blend, as you say. I love what each of them bring to the group but if a gun was held to my head and I had to choose my favourite it would definately be Maurice!! :)

Yes, Maurice was, and still is, a major hunk. He had a certain sensual individuality about him in so many ways.

Why can’t they release these songs today. Young people would love this music. They could have a whole new following.

Robin's voice is mesmerizing. He had that natural vibrato and could also sing falsetto like his brothers. Robin could sing in vibrato and falsetto simultaneously, and that is rare.

I do not think any of them would have done their best without each other !

Robin has a few solo albums some of which made the top 40. I think he had one bomb that didn't go anyway but songs like Juliet are very much the sound that Robin gave to the Bee Gees.

I think Robin's voice was/is very much appreciated. He is a legend and truly one of a kind!!!!

Maurice was the one that kept the family together also. You are truly right Chad he never got enough recognition, he could do it all Maurice

I think Robin is actually appreciated more now than in their early days. Thanks to KZread and videos people are realising the part Robin played in the success of the Bee Gees.

Robin was appreciated so very much, he has a beautiful voice simply beautiful. Each brother has their place and do such a great job. They worked as a unit and that's how they all wanted it. They loved each other.

Maurice was the peacemaker between Barry and Robin when they had creative differences with the music.....so he was a very essential part of the group.

Robin's voice is so beautiful emotional and most of my favourite Bee Gees songs are the ones where Robin has a prominent role. I think Barry has a more versatile voice and Robin's voice doesn't suit all songs, but I love it and always find myself listening for Robin's harmony part and watching him in live performances. They wouldn't have been the Bee Gees without all 3 of them, including Maurice's harmonies and musical contribution.

By the way Chad, the children of the Bee Gees have created what they call "Gibb Collective." The children sing their fathers' songs. Good stuff!

All three brothers TOGETHER created the Pure Magic that was The Bee Gees - however, Maurice added (instinctively...) that incredible harmony that's so Special... Just like Robin (with his vibrato...) and Barry (doing his falsetto thing...) are absolutely incredible - without Maurice, they would've been incomplete... And, we were Blessed, being able to enjoy them for close to 50 years... 💖💖💖

When Robin comes in on vocals I get chills. I can't tell anyone which song is my favorite because they all are. Robin's voice came from deep inside and hits you right in the heart. Maurice had as much talent as they did and he brought humor.

Patty-I once heard an individual state that Robin could sing in any genre. He definitely nailed the "Blue Eyed Soul" part. I also read in an article that evaluated Robin's vocal range and said that he was close to an operatic vocal range. Can you imagine?

You're absolutely right about Maurice. Very unsung, and had the most thankless job in the band. Barry and Robin were the bricks, Maurice was the mortar. He weaved his harmonies in between what Barry and Robin were doing, whatever was needed, whether the high, middle or low part. He was the kind of the musical director of the band, and on a personal level, he was the peacekeeper. He even often referred to himself as "the man in the middle." Maurice and Robin being twins, they had a natural "shorthand" with each other. Barry's and Robin's relationship was much more competative, complex and volatile. They didn't always get along, and Barry said when I saw him on tour about 5, 6 years ago, that it was like "oh, something's wrong or something going on with Robin, I need to go ask Maurice what's going on." Even though the all loved each other, it wasn't always easy. And there's a reason why Barry and Robin never recorded together again after Maurice died. And yes, Maurice was a hunk, much more understated than Barry, but he was my mom's favorite.

I definitely agree with you about Robin, his voice just brought a magic to their songs.

I also agree that it took all three wonderful men to make the Bee Gees the best group ever. I'm still asking for you to react to "I Can't See Nobody" from the 1974 Melbourne concert. You won't be disappointed with Robin's performance. I guarantee it!

The magic was there only when all 3 voices came together. Each one of them was a remarkable talent, but on their own it didn’t work the same. Barry is left on his own & I’m happy he is finding a way to preserve the music & do what he loves, but no one sings those songs like The Bee Gees.

I have always been a big fan of the Bee Gees, Robin voice was wonderful, Mo said Robin had a voice that touch the heart. Mo was the peace keeper and a amazing talent himself. After his death in 2003 the "Bee gees" pretty much retired. They did special performances and tried but they said after Mo died it was not the same, they loved him dearly. They continued with solo projects till Robin's death. It took Barry a long time to accept his brothers were gone. I loved Barry too and he has said that he would give up all the fame to have his brothers back. He is back on the stage and I'm thankful we still have him. I've listened to them everyday through this pandemic and enjoy every song they wrote and sang. They were a amazing group and can never be forgotten

Do you know what Chad, I love Barry and I love his voice but there’s just something about Robins voice that is so unique and different. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody’s voice come even close to his. And I don’t want to pick a favorite singer but I have to say Robins voice is my favorite. I think when you see him singing, he puts so much emotion and feeling into his words that you can almost feel it in your soul.

They agreed as a group who would do what for each song. When Maurice was going through his alcoholism, he was not good for much of anything.

Best harmony group ever.. I just love hearing them.

Robins voice is the most UNIQUE of all of them. His voice has a haunting quiver to it that makes it sound almost heartbroken??? Of course Barry obviously has incredible range and is beyond beautiful......but Robin had wayyy more vocal talent that many may not have picked up on.

Yes, Robin was unique, but he was 1/3 of the whole sound. Each one brought their own gifts/talents.

Essentialy you said none of them can be replaced and that's absolutely true. There is not one that is insignificant.

They sing this song at the end of the HBO documentary. It was a live version. Their harmonies were on point.

"I Can't See Nobody" is a MUST listen to further appreciate the contribution of Robin Gibb's unique vocal talent. The 1974 Melbourne, Australia concert version is the BEST. Robin sings lead, some of the notes are "sharps and flats" and he does this effortlessly and beautifully. I've never heard another artist's cover version of "I Can't See Nobody" done as well as the original recording with Robin Gibb.

Another song to appriciate with Robin on lead is Country Lanes from 1975 (My favorite), Lamplight from 1969 or I Can't See Nobody from 1967.

I watched this performance when it aired on tv all those years ago. That was the 1st time I had heard of them, got hooked on them and still am to this day ;)

I think that Robin didn't get the attention to his voice that he should have. In the final days before MO passed away it was he and Robin that got back together and started working together. Barry came back to them and they started to work together again. Some of their most beautiful music came then. In an interview with Barry after the death of Robin he said he felt bad because he had hurtful words with each of his brothers including Andy before they passed. If you look of the body of work that Robin had right up until his death it was amazing. Robin's voice lended the soul to the music. He said he always sang from his heart. He was amazing in his own right.

Early Bee Gees Robin was more the lead and later Barry took over and never let it go although they all shared parts. Really the three were needed to make the Bee Gees, when Mo died the Bee Gees were hobbled, they still had the two power house voices but as you said they were incomplete without all three. RIP: Andy Mo and Robin

I grew up listening to BeeGees. Reminds me of my late uncle and Granpa's - they just love this band and always play Beegees musics every afternoon.

Before "Nights on Broadway" it was Maurice who sang the higher notes in their harmonies. It was around 1975 that Barry "discovered" his falsetto. Maurice was the most underrated Bee Gee. But IMHO he was the glue that held everything together. It was after his death that the Bee Gees sort of died with him. Robin went on for a bit on his own touring Europe, but ut didnt last long.

They had solo projects, and they might collaborate on those but the three together were The Bee Gees. I believe I heard in an interview that Robin and Barry agreed to wait for Maurice when he went to rehab to show support and because of that very fact. ❤️

They said the general rule was that whoever brought in the song sang lead, and they might share verses if written together. Maurice wasn’t fond of writing lyrics, but dominated on instruments. He also was an alcoholic, and Robin had his own set of personal issues to deal with. Barry gives Linda a lot of credit for keeping him in line. There were years where Barry practically lived in the studio, and the brothers would come and go, and they all reaped the rewards. Barry also handled most of the business. Their mom said that everyone called Barry when they had a problem, and he would take care of it. He could have gone out on his own, but didn’t. He loved them and knew he was better with them. Their story is not just about the music, it’s incredibly inspirational, and dominated by love and family. Maurice really didn’t have a strong lead singer voice, or a lead singer personality, or a lead singer appearance, especially in the 70’s when it was all about the hair. His brothers encouraged and supported him, or he probably wouldn’t have done the leads that he did do. If he had lived longer, because he was sober, he would have probably done more, like he did on their final album. Chad... In Maurice’s honor, please react to his SEVEN SEAS SYMPHONY, recorded in one take with a live orchestra.

Yes and the album includes the excellent 'Lamplight' sung by Robin. In fact this song triggered the first split in the band when the producers and Barry went for 'The First of May as the albums single release. Cheers.

I absolutely love Robin and Mo's voices. I can distinguish each voice from the other in their songs. My friends say that's weird. lol Robin has about 1/2 dozen solo albums.

Incredible song writing and how it's not been covered is insane.

His voice is what made me know who the beegees were. I started a joke got me. It literally stopped me in my tracks. I was enthralled. It was on the Tom Jones Show. I'm almost 65. Mo is Magic!

The fact that they're just insanely talented songwriters with 1 hundred songs that they wrote for themselves as well as other artists being in the top 10 and their diversity is why their music has lasted over 7 decades. Their brother Andy Gibb was an amazing singer songwriter as well. He died too soon in 1988 at the age of 30. Mo died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. They are by far the most talented musical family in the history of music. RIP Andy, Mo and Robin.

This has always been my favourite Bee Gees song since I was a little girl. It is so beautiful.

OMG Barry is so good looking omg I am 65 was about 17 when they came out strong they have the best voices. Robin's voice is great as well as Maurice's. THey need to give that sound!!! I started a joke's voice is crazy!!! Maurice is super talented he plays the piano. Such a great sadness when Maurice and Robin left this Earth what sadness! But hey such is life.

This has always been one of my favorite songs. I actually used to sing this as I rocked my babies to sleep. (Low) It took all three of them, not only to sing, to play instruments, but to write. Robin also played the piano.

@@hereonthe3L - I am SOOO glad you pointed out the value of all three. Too often Barry is considered the leader and "star" to the detriment of the twins because he looks like one. He certainly deserves recognition for his song writing, singing and producing abilities but was always pushed by record companies and their father for his looks. He was a natural front man and a perfectionist. His voice was bluesy and great for pop and R&B. By contrast, I remember some reviewers made fun of Robin's buck teeth and said he looked like a "gopher". Even their dad, hopefully jokingly, at one time said he sounded like a bleating sheep! Them's fightin' words! Maurice was often just ignored. I was a Robin girl simply because the first song I heard by them in 1967 was with him singing lead (I was born the same day and year, 1949, as the twins, my sole claim to fame) and I was an instant fan. I was charmed by his shy eccentric personality, rapier wit in interviews and extreme intelligence. He also was a bit of an awkward klutz (adorkable as someone else described) and his brothers advised him it was best not to "dance" on stage, LOL. He was a genius with amazing knowledge, especially in history and was President of The British Heritage society for years. I label his voice as ethereal from the heart and soul, a natural balladeer. He was only SIXTEEN and his voice recently broke so he did it for a lark to a backing track in their producer's office. Barry was a composer, likely as a fetus, but the other two particularly Robin, caught up and did several great solo albums, often produced by Maurice. All three polished off the finished product for Bee Gees songs and all are usually credited. Maurice was the harmonizer, instrumentalist and glue that held together the harmonies (and sometimes the feuding Barry and Robin) and was a joker on stage. All three had great falsettos and range. To pick favorites is really unfair....although I just did, LOL. :) The Bee Gees, IMO died with Maurice and half of Robin died with his twin. The were three...PERIOD! Great reaction. Cheers.

@@cindyknudson2715 Their Dad pushed them really hard after he discovered they could sing. He called Robin a Nanny Goat. I have this feeling that Barry may have experienced abuse at the hands of his Dad. Hugh pushed them so hard, letting them perform in questionable places like speedways, strip clubs, and RSL clubs. They were exposed to things young boys should never have been exposed to. They ran pretty much unsupervised. I think that may have had a negative impact on their development.Their parents allowed them to quit school at a young age. They spent their days lighting fires and shoplifting. Hugh was away alot trying to find work. it was up to Barbara acting as a single parent to handle a daughter, 3 young boys, and baby Andy on her own.l know it was a different time but still,,,When they first arrived in Australia Barry had to live with his Dad while his other siblings stayed with their mom and other family members. Barry does not have fond memories of that time. He could not understand why he was isolated from the others, living with his Dad This seriously impacted Barry. .I think the music was a form of escape for Barry, Robin, and Maurice but still,,,,. It was definitely an escape from a life of crime!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Bee Gees and it’s REALLY REALLY hard for me to pick just one favorite 🤗 BUT this ONE has always been at the top of the list of my all time ABSOLUTE FAVORITES by the Brothers Gibb 💗💗💗

They were impeccable live. The way Robin and Barry’s voices harmonize is magic. Mo basically said that once in a documentary on the brothers.
