Gayla Liles - Robin was shattered by his twin's death. He was pushed more to compose and sing until the day he died although his last couple of years were spent in agony. He wrote the classical piece, The Titanic Requiem and his own beautiful album "50 St Catherines Street". His was the voice of an angel.

My personal favorite performances of the Bee Gees is when they are being interviewed and they take out their guitars and sing one of their songs. No back up musicians, no back up singers, just one or two guitars and their voices. They sound amazing. Nothing gets better then that. Their concerts are amazing too. But they don't need anything else to sound amazing but their God given voices and talent.

The Bee Gees were unfairly targeted/censored after the disco backlash. Watch the beautiful HBO documentary How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. You can go down a very long rabbit hole with this group. They had amazing songs in 5 decades. Barry just released a very successful country duets album in the early part of this year called Greenfields. They also wrote and/or performed songs for other artists such as Barbra Streisand, Yvonne Elliman, Destiny's Child, Samantha Sang, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, and Michael Jackson. So many diverse artists covered their songs throughout the decades.

You need to set up a Bee Gees play list and get ready for more! I knew the Bee Gees from being a teen in the 70’s, but had no idea what came before or after until a couple of years ago. Obsessed now. Go back to 1967 and react the TO LOVE SOMEBODY. There’s a vintage video of a tv appearance. The fashions will date the song, but you’ll hear a beautiful, soulful timeless Gibb classic from their first international album. Barry is 20 and the twins are barely 17.

I've got a theory about why you and so many other people never did any looking at their music past "Stayin Alive." Maybe you figured that, since everyone knew that one famous song of theirs, if they'd written any other good stuff you would have heard about it. So it was easy to assume they didn't have any other good stuff. There was a kind of general silence about the Bee Gees because for a long time they were thought to be uncool. I don't know why, because their music is phenomenal.

This was a FANTASTIC reaction and I loved how you expressed both your deep appreciation and regret of the Bee Gees, their work and brilliance. Barry spoke about this very phenomenon that you're speaking of when they accepted an award. It may have even been for their induction into the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame when he said "we are the enigma within the stigma. We know this..." It's something they had to deal with that's unique to them and they struggled against that challenge by continuing to keep creating music/songs for themselves and others. In the end there's just no denying who they were as a group, their extensive catalogue, their song writing, their singing, harmonizing, their talent individually as singers, musicians and song writers and together a gift to everyone.

I agree with you and it's funny because a lot of people know them from their Disco era but that lasted for only a couple of years in the 1970's. Before "Saturday Night Fever" there was "Jive Talking" which was a funky R & B song & afterwards they came out with songs like "Tragedy" which wasn't Disco at all.

So glad to see a new generation discovering the amazing talent of the Bee Gees. When keeping an open mind in music there's so much more to discover. The Bee Gees have made 22 studio albums, 2 major soundtracks, and many more projects. They have made so much different style of music, that it will surprise you. Take 'Overnight' from their E.S.P. album for instance, that's a rock song. On the 'Odessa' album they wrote a symphony, they were so versatile. Well worth diving into. You might not like all of their songs, but I bet you'll love the majority of them. Although some songs you'll need to hear more often to "get" them. Anyway, it's a nice journey to be on.

Couldn't deal with the whole Disco era. I preferred their earlier stuff. This is a throw back sound for them. I also preferred Robin's voice tone. The falsetto from Barry was impressive but for me it was over used. They knew the formula to write a tune for sure. I kinda felt like this sing was over produced? Maybe it's just me. Good 🎵. Chod thanks for sharing. Keep up the diversity of tunes you're playing. It's like listening to a really good old FM station.

Agree. The falsetto became overused and turned me off. I always preferred Robin's voice from day one. It was OK when they exchanged vocals in the same song. That worked best and showed the contrast between their different voices.

...you should really do more research on them before making comments about 1 hit wonders! Staying Alive was a great song, but they had many great songs.

I never cared for the Barry Gibb falsetto.

I think his falsetto is pretty much amazing! Listen to Too much Heaven. It's fantastic. Barry's falsetto makes it even more fantastic!

@@cathysorge8433 - The problem was it was overused. A lot of people got sick of it and it almost destroyed their career because the so called "disco" association got them blacklisted in the US. They did great in the 80's and 90's in Europe and elsewhere but couldn't beg for airplay in the US. Their loss! I was not fond of the falsetto when overused, and it was overused, and it turned me off them for several years. I preferred their pre and post "disco" era. BTW, in "Too Much Heaven" technically they were all singing in the falsetto range.

I always preferred their music before disco. I grew up during that time. And really hated disco. So I was never a fan of their music during the disco Era. They were my favorite group at the time. But I only listened to their earlier songs. And since they didn't get that much air time after disco I didn't hear much of their later music. It is only recently listening to these reaction videos that I have fallen in love with their disco sound and their later music. "Words" will always be my favorite Bee Gees song. But I appreciate and love all their phases of music now.
