Everyone appreciates a good cook. I was going to be late leaving work so I called and told my wife that I would be late getting home. She told me if I wasn’t home in an hour that she was going to feed the supper she had cooked me to our dog. I was home in 30 minutes. I would hate myself if something bad happened to our dog.😁

Whenever I clean my cast iron skillet, I will pour a cup of water in the pan and heat it up on the stove. When it comes to a boil I take it off the heat and scrub it with a spatula to loosen the bits. Dump it out in the sink, and scrub it with the brillo pad. Don't use dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with paper towels.

Nice thing about using dish soap is you remove all the greasy crap stuck to your pot and your left with the seasoned surface. It used to be they put lye in dish soap but they don't anymore so it's safe to use on cast iron.

I wouldn't use dish soap because it actually breaks down the seasoning. This guy also has videos about that . @@Tb0n3

I'm glad you've seen the light lol. This guys the real deal it seems with dutch oven cooking. I recently travelled twelve hundred miles to escape a domestic situation, and the one thing i was certain was in my car was the cast iron dutch oven. If it's the only thing in your kitchen then you're good. Well that and a fork. And yes, it's fine for beans as well.

CK (Cowboy Kent), thank you for sharing all of your great recipes over the years. I've decided that the secret to a great recipe is doing a little jig after tasting each great creation that you share with literally the entire world. It’s very entertaining and I’m sure it makes the food taste so much better. I also love the appreciation your pup’s show of your cooking and the tasty morsels they get to sample throughout your many videos. That could very well be secret ingredient number two. I’ve decided to invite my wife to share all of my smoking and grilling successes with a jig. As I was thinking about that it dawned on me that I’ve never seen Shannon taste or do a jig after you’ve made after one of your great recipes. I don’t want to make her job harder but I think your viewers would like to see her take the first bite and improve the taste with a little two step. Just a suggestion. 😉 Looking forward to that.

I have a 12", 10" and 8" Dutch ovens. I don't always stack but did once while camping. I stacked with 12" on the bottom, 10" the middle and then 8" on top. Sweet and Sour Pork in the 12", Cobbler in the 10" and rolls in the 8". Turned out perfect. Family loved it. I got lazy and just used briquettes and the rolls were just those frozen Rhodes rolls you can buy in the freezer section of the store. I put the rolls in the 8" and let them thaw and rise. When they had risen to the height I wanted is when I started to bake them. Turned out nice and brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Great with the dinner and the cobbler turned out good too. I have a lid lifter like you. It's great.

I also use it on my Santa Maria grill, so easy to control the heat and I've got enough room to keep a fire going to make coals. I've made several of your recipes Kent and I have to say, they were all fantastic.

Hi , I use the camp oven every weekend here in Australia. We just put it on a small bed of coals and some on the lid . My food and cakes turn out perfect. No need for trivets or complicated moving the coals . After a bit of practice it’s easy . I use a trivet inside to sit cake tin on so the bottom doesn’t burn. Cheers Cowboy 👍

Great information here! Especially about using inserts. Many people overlook the obvious fact, not only is the camp dutch oven used as a cooking vessel, but it can actually be used more like a modern oven! I have even used a cast iron trivet, to raise my cake pan, off direct contact with the bottom of the Dutch Oven. This helps prevent any scortched food, in your pan! Hot air can circulate around the pan. (Its just like putting a bed of vegetables down, then roasting a chicken on top of them.)

Great tips! I have used an insert for pies, with crust made on my pickup tailgate. Cleaning is easy for stews and casseroles. Just serve everyone, then add water to the dutch oven and put it back on what's left of the coals. By the time everyone is finished with dinner, the water is hot and nothing sticks.

I use a dutch oven indoors with a regular electric oven. For some dishes like roasts I get better results than cooking directly on the oven. One thing to keep in mind (I've noticed some do) is that if you live in the city you DO NOT dump the fats that remain from cooking or cleaning into the drain. Use a strainer, paper towel or whatever to put that in the bin.
