I had asked you once in the comments when did you use an octabox vs a beauty dish! A video is much better than a response, thanks! I used to assist a photographer that would flip his reflector backwards in his beauty dish sometimes. (IDK) I have Mola beauty dishes and they have opal glass for the reflector, so they can literally be made of different things and colors. I just purchased a Glow Profond, similar to the Elinchrom Para series, just thousands of dollars less. I can't wait to test it out. Thanks for the great vid!

No problems at all! ☺ Usually I'd l have models around a metre from the backdrop. Then depending on how the shots are cropped and where the shadow appears, I can move them further forward. 🙂

Hiya! Thanks so much for watching ☺ Godox are actually a great brand and super affordable too! There are two main things you can do, you can either shoot your macro images with a longer macro lens, (for example Canon has a 180mm which will allow you to stand further back and take the shot.) Or you can stand further back with a regular macro lens (eg.100mm) to take the shot and crop in. This also helps with getting the entire eye & lashes completely in focus. 🙂

Hey random question but do you think you could use the 85 for beauty ?

Thanks Kayleigh. I have both but my beauty dish is silver. Have been thinking about spraying it white cause it isn't great with deep skin tones.

No worries Katie! Silver tends to have a more ghostly effect sometimes although it's great if you want a shiner highlighted look. But I definitely recommend getting your hands on a white one too :)

What don't you like about the silver beauty dish on dark skin tones? I love how it looks on dark skin. The highlights can be gorgeous (but that's my take on it. Hope you got your hands on a white beauty dish by now. I know this was 3 years ago😂).

It’s funny they call it a beauty dish when I actually use that for more edgy sports portraits. When I want soft light that wraps, I go to the octabox. Thanks for this video!

Yip. I use my beauty dishes for swimwear and typical portraits as well as Fashion. Beauty dishes are definitely more versatile than just the staple Beauty photos! Great vid.

Question I just bought a 16 inch beauty dish And I keep getting harsh shadow on my background paper when I use my large soft box no shadow what am I doing wrong

Can i use a beauty dish as my key light and a softbox for the fill light? would that make sense?
