Beautiful stone Tudor home with Art deco everywhere/Family home for 84 years/Award winning orchids

Hey house lovers and explorers! Another treat with today`s video where I take you around an absolutely great example of heavily influenced art deco stone build Tudor home. Built in 1939 for Adolph Gustav Bettcher and hid wife Dora Lilly it stayed within the family for 84 years right up until 2023 when it was sold and fell in to the hands of developers. Yes it`s fate sealed with it now demolished already. The Bettcher Family are a long time professional award winning orchid growers and grew them here within an extensive greenhouse that surrounded the home. A very iconic home as it sat right at the end of East ave on Grange Rd, Flinders Park. I have added a little bit of a back story regarding the history along with some very nice real estate pics. Lots to see in this beautiful old detail filled home. Hope you all enjoy, cheers for watching :-)

The fact that is beautiful old home is being demolished is symbolic of how this country’s heritage is being relentlessly destroyed on all fronts. It’s like nothing that’s gone before is worth preserving.

Unfortunately if nobody wants to buy them and renovate them, there is no point in keeping them just to rot away. It is often more expensive to do them up than build from scratch, especially if maintenance has not been kept up, or the foundations are dodgy.

@@janetpendlebury6808 I can’t imagine someone not wanting to renovate that building. I think it has a lot more to do with developers having the funds to outbid the competition. Surely this building would be eligible to be on a heritage register.

What is happening to these beautiful old houses by developers is called GLOBALISM. Developers don't care about our heritage or culture. Or our past. For them nothing matters. And no-one matters. That's why they will tear down our homes and build soulless boxes. But you can fight this. Put up your Australian flag for Australia Day. Say "gidday" to everyone you meet. Keep our Aussie traditions going. Fight for the country our Anzacs died for. 🇦🇺

@@lavenderfields929Absolutely correct. I grew up in Australia in the 70s and early 80s. And unfortunately much of the world has been taken over by corporate oligarchs who care nothing for anyone but themselves. It's all about power control and greed. What happened from early 2020 should be a wake up call. But people can feel free to call me crazy. Cheers. 🕊️

Hi Paul. I went to Underdale High school '70 - '74. The area once had extensive market gardens and a celery farm bordered our oval. The smell of celery was fabulous! This style of home is very common in the area, not all as grand as this dame, but very solid all the same. So good to see so many original features still in place. Thanks for another great explore 😁

I know and hope someday our next generations will open their eyes. Realize how much was lost. These old incredible structures can NEVER be replaced. It totally breaks my heart 💔 to see this happen. I remember years and years ago they destroyed a old Opera/Theatre house in the old town I lived in. It should have been on the historic register. But instead they wanted to have a parking lot there. So disgraceful in my eyes. I know when I watch things like this happen I can’t help but shed many tears 😢😢😢. I’m grateful for all the work you do documenting these beautiful remarkable buildings. ThanQ so much for your time saving and sharing this with us. You are a remarkable person!

I love every single light fixture and ceiling medallion in that house! In its day it was a showstopper for sure. The arch in the hallway, the touches of Art Deco, even the bathroom was beautiful. They just don’t make houses like that anymore. Everything is cookie cutter, and builder grade and just what goes together the fastest. Tradesmen aren’t artists like they used to be. And even if they are they don’t have time to do high-end work. I hope the salvage company is smart enough to removed everything, it’s all so pretty. And great for builders or home owners that are restoring their home. Take care Paul!

Build another Art Deco house in 2023. I remember the Pix magazine. Also the Post magazine. That really took me back in time. What we are experiencing in the 2000s is GLOBALISM. Nothing matters. Nobody matters. Our Australian culture doesn't matter. WE need to keep our culture ALIVE. Post old time photos. Remember our Australian traditions. Fly our Australian flag for Australia Day. Be that strong Aussie our Anzacs died for. AND.... Don't buy into Globalism.

Seems like all the fireplaces had small openings. No, didn't notice any wall cracks. Love the big kitchen. 30:56 On the left of the fireplace that opening looks like the frig would be there. Didn't see a stove or oven.

This house has so many beautiful details, between the ceiling plaster work, the numerous light fixtures, and absolutely gorgeous art deco lead light window panels, and the terazzo floors, it's just a real shame that it will all be lost and replaced with plain disposable ugly new construction. It really boggles the mind how those "developers" (more like destroyers) can sleep at night, let alone live with themselves. Thanks so much for documenting this, at least future generations might get a glimpse of the beauty that was destroyed so that they could have cheap cardboard shacks stacked one atop the next. Keep up the good work!!

A great introduction and a sad goodbye to a once elegant late 1930s Art Deco home. Adelaide will gradually become unrecognisable if demolitions of vintage and historic homes continues, being replaced by modern high density structures. Thank you Paul for taking the time to capture so many of the old homes, before being destroyed.

My wife adores your channel, and for our upcoming 40th anniversary (and being quite a quirky couple) I want to get her a 78 of "Finding the Long Way Home" like yours. We have a 1912 Victrola so I know she'll love it. I've found some examples but none of the singer on yours. Who is it? Can anyone out there help me? Oh I also sometimes watch your videos with her while I smoke my evening pipe and they're very entertaining.

Just sad to see such a well-kept character home bought up by a developer for demolition. In Brisbane, homes like this (masonry Art Deco) built pre-1946 have some protection by default, don't know what the score is in Adelaide. Edit: I _love_ the tiles in the back kitchen - both the translucent jade-green overglaze, and the Art Deco chevron frieze. If you can even find anything that nice in a tile shop these days, you'll pay through the nose for it.

Another great video Paul. Do u know if the photo albums and orchid memorabilia was taken before the demolition? Seems such a shame to have treated like garbage when it was obviously a big part of the families history/life. On another note, I started watching u around the time u posted the video of u finding your cat. Can we have a cat update please? Thanks ❤

Such a shame that these places are situated on what are now busy thoroughfares. The glazed brickwork & stone are beautiful. The wood flooring & windows in the green walled ante room are gorgeous, the fireplace in the living room, the leather lounge chair, the pendant lights.
