On crystals I like to reverse dop them and shape/polish the backs too. Does remove extra material and takes more time though

I tend to do that part by hand, I just don't show the process on video, only on the higher quality gems do I dop it to cut the backside :)

Glad to see you are feeling better. Very nice results on this parcel. I have difficulties sometimes with sacrificing opal to get a more saleable shape, but I know that ultimately, if I want to sell gems for a 'business' I will have to do it. Thanks for posting.

Yea good job buddy lovely looking stones there so how did it go with the calibrating I think it might have been nice to see you checking them with a calliper or even just putting them back through the stencils at the end just for a look see All in all great job buddy you rock 🪨👍

I have some calibrated stones Will cut for me from a couple of videos ago and they are spot on the stencil size. Easy in presets but I’m making my own for them

Is there a reason you dont even the backs/back edge?, as a jeweler and some one who sets opal (also cuts opal) its very important to even out the back or slightly dome the back, i usually go close to flat back as possible then a small 45 degree chamfer on the back edge, if claw or bezel set it will have high chance to chip the back with an unknown sized chunk, only speaking from my jewelry / setting experience. Pain to dop twice, but more of a pain for the setter if it cracks or smashes especially after spending time making a setting, its heartbreaking can confirm. For sure beautiful stones and polish, not taking away from this amazing work, just a tip! =)

I’m glad you like the final stones, thank you for the feedback too! I do even out the backs and slightly dome the back, I do it after I take them off the dop sticks, but I don’t show that part of the process. I can start to include it though :)

@@W.MOpals Oh thats totally fair man, it just an observation after seeing them off the dop sticks :P , it could be nice for any new cutters watching even if you just mention/explain thats what you do after! (i feel like its often overlooked with people first getting into it) or maybe tinnnny snippet of the process But To be fair, the back is usually quite boring process after seeing front of stone come to life hahaha Thanks for the content and teaching the peoples, ill continue to watch and like every vid =)
