I love the addition of narration in this!! The evolution in your videos are incredible. You made this so fun to watch, like I was watching a documentary. And those SUBIE SHOTS. I continue to be impressed by your work (and thus talent). I’m genuinely so excited for more 👌🏻

Aww thank you Kristen, you're too kind. I'm really enjoying putting these together and *trying* to figure out how to improve with each new one. Hopefully someone will find them useful or at least be inspired to go see for themselves. 8^)

Loved the CRV like those. Unfortunately Honda prettied it up for mall crawling. They need to come out with an off road capable Ridgeline and Element!

Thank you! My first rough attempts at making videos were just driving and music and it felt very weird to start talking on them, but now that I'm used to it, you can't get me to shut up! 8^D Thanks for watching and I hope you'll find the other videos enjoyable!

@@softroadingthewest I'm sure I will find them enjoyable! I also have tangential motives for watching your videos -- I'm thinking about getting one of the new Forester's. I stumbled across your YT stream because of that! What year is your Forester and how much custom work did you put into it?

Really enjoy watching your videos. I have one question. Why did you decide to go with a Subaru Forester and not a Honda CR V ? I totally understand why not going with a Jeep, they are just too pricey. I am from PA and would like too start doing some basic off roading, but am in a budget. We already own a Subaru Legacy and love the car, but wanted to ask what is the best platform to start out with ? Subaru or Honda? Keep up the good work.

I had a long (and positive) history with Subaru dating back to 2000, so it was a logical choice for me. Honestly I was unaware of the capabilities of the first-gen CRV, but in any case I wanted something more modern with more safety features, and the later CRVs don't appeal to me as much. The first-gen CRV is an impressive little beast, but I'm a definite fan of the third-gen Forester, which I think hit the sweet spot of Subaru's AWD + traction control systems (plus the best approach & departure angles of any Forester) but pre-dating the CVT transmissions which seems to have somewhat limited the capabilities of newer Subarus.

whats your ground clearance for the forester? stock or lifted?

1" (front) / 1.375" (rear) spacer lift from Anderson Design & Fabrication, then eventually (after this video) King standard height springs in the rear only. Between the suspension and larger tires, I had about 11" of clearance down the middle of the car.
