The Beastie Boys put out their first album in 1986, and released albums through 2011. They went platinum, double platinum, triple platinum, and even diamond. Never heard of the Beastie Boys? That's like people familiar with Rock saying they never heard of Led Leppelin or the Beatles. The Beastie Boys back in the day opened for Run-DMC. A few years later, Public Enemy opened for the Beastie Boys. They are in the rock and roll hall of fame. Eminem's Kamikaze cover was a tribute to the cover of the Beastie Boys first album 'License to Ill'. You MUST watch the video to 'Intergalactic' and '3 MCs and 1 DJ'. Their discography is so large, you can listen to dozens of their songs before you find one you don't really like.

There’s a few others but not a lot of rappers/rap groups have been able to span that long of a time span and not get corny or run out of ideas, I mean obviously they weren’t at the height of their career or anything in the late 2000s but their last album is pretty dope to me and the only other rappers I can think of who’ve been able to stay consistent for that long are DOOM, Ghostface, Kool G Rap and Scarface. You could count Jay and Masta Ace and probably other people in forgetting but those four have had at least one great album in every decade imo

Hey Christina! I’m a few years older than you and the Beastie Boys came out when I was in my mid 20s. I was a heavy metal guy and I NEVER listened to them! I knew they sang ‘fight for your right to party’ and that was about it. It stayed that way until about a year ago now that I’m in my late 50s. They are so amazing! I can’t believe I denied myself the enjoyment I get from listening to their music for so long. I’m still discovering songs.

Seeing Beastie Boys for the first time, never heard of them, reacting to one of their songs almost 30 years after it came out..!?! YO and loving it?!? That tells me I'm not just stilling loving these guys after all these years cause nostalgia. They've always been and always will be legit, badass rap artists.

Beastie Boys helped propel rap into the mainstream. They were part of Def Jam with LL Cool J and a Public Enemy, as well as the label affiliated Run DMC. Their Licensed to Ill album was a pivotal moment in hip hop history. Eminem’s Kamikaze album cover pays tribute to the album and Beastie Boys are one of the few hip hop artists inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They were joined this year by label mate LL Cool J and Public Enemy a few years ago.

In addition to spitting bars and dropping knowledge, each member of the Beastie Boys played an instrument. You hear and see bass guitar, electric guitar, drums, piano and an organ, thats them. On the Check Your Head album, you never knew what you were going to get because they bounce from being Hip-Hop to Punk Rock, to Jazz. They were the epitome of true talent. Most Hip-Hop artists could never.

Just a little factoid for ya about the Beadtie Boys, they were actually a punk band before they got into rap/hip hop. They really were the first ones to combine elements of both together and made it sound bitchin’. They are major influences of a ton in HipHop including Em’. They are a joy to discover! We were still bumpin them hard in the 90’s! They were out in the 80’s alongside Run DMC.

Beastie Boys are great, I think you guys are gonna enjoy the ride. They are very old school hip hop. Started as a rock group, but with a passion for hip hop, so they changed their act to hip hop and started making waves, then they brought rock influence back into their style. These dudes helped get LL Cool J signed. They're a great group, though. Worth diving into if you like the old school hip hop sound. All-time biggest tracks you'll wanna check out (to name just a few) are probably "Three MCs and One DJ" and "Intergalactic" and "Sure Shot" and "Shake Your Rump". If you wanna check out a more obscure but very interesting track, they did a collab track with Q Tip from A Tribe Called Quest once.

They were together since 1978 but active as the Beastie Boys from 1981-2012. There was no Rap Industry when they started. Do you understand? It was Hip hop only. They come from Punk music but incorporated metal, Latin, hip hop, etc. and created ALL their music and beats. This is the sound of New York City your hearing.Real artist and Legends! Still listening 37 years later! And You been listening to music for like 3 min 38 seconds.

Just to guide you - there’s nothing Rock about this. You can say, “this rocks” or “this is rocking” to describe how it makes ya feel, but there’s nothing about the song that would put it in the Rock category. It’s rap with a hip hop beat. You will discover other Beasties songs that are more rock, punk, funk, as well as their traditional old skool rap and new wave hiphop.

Love these guys…admittedly I’m a geezer…saw them at CBGBs when they were exclusively a punk band….they sucked 🤣 However they evolved into this great thing…kudos They were generous, they brought some folks up, too

One of the most iconic rap groups of all time. You need to do yourself a favor and check out a BUNCH of their hits. 'Intergalactic' is where you should start or the one that put them on everyone's radar, 'Fight for your right to party'.

When you guys get a chance you should check out Chuck D and LL Cool J inducting the beastie boys into the rock n roll hall of fame, only then will you understand how influential the beastie boys were to hip hop.
