Magical Cookies -- No matter the amount of food, the bear will still learn to associate humans with food, which is the reason for the signs in ALL national parks: DON'T FEED THE BEARS. Ya reckon? And getting close and trying to "befriend" them, aside from being really stupid, causes them to lose their natural fear of man, sometimes to the point of being a "nuisance" animal and having to be relocated. Repeat offenders have to be euthanized -- not good for bear or man.

For that matter, a lot of animals can be dangerous and people aren't always careful around them and get complacent. Especially animals that weigh more or have big teeth, it just takes one mistake. We've had horses and other large animals, but kicking at a fly can hurt a human badly if they are in the wrong spot.

Funny how we humans project our emotions and thoughts onto animals that have been wild for hundreds of years if not millions of years and think that they're just going to be our friends. Under certain conditions, bears, even black bears, will cannibalize. They know nothing but their instincts to survive. They're not our friends. They're a form of life that deserves respect.

I'm a park Ranger that works with Black and Grizzley bears regularly. This is reckless and irresponsible! Never feed bears. Your actions will lead that bear to believe it can approach people for food. It's called habituation. It will become more and more aggressive in its search for food. Thanks for starting this bear down the road that will lead to it's death.

marcellb579 lol, yeah. Basic idea is that there's two options when youre up against a grizzly: 1. It actively wants to kill you. In that situation, unless you're about to bust out like Muhammad Ali, you're dead and you just don't know it yet. 2. It just wants to get rid of a threat Taking the hits will make it think the fight is over and won't make it want to chase you.

You are right, fight black bears /play dead to grizzlys. Generally black bears do mean you harm if they attack, grizzly are mostly curious and non threatening. You do have a chance against black bears but not so much with grizzlys because of their size. All bears are extremely strong and stout. My brother raised a black bear cub, and I can tell you the little guy was awfully strong for his size at three months.

Lol!! I was fishing in Okeefenokee swamp, and accidentally hooked onto a baby alligator. It almost broke my rod, and was making a high pitched noise. Next thing I know the momma gator rolled up out of the water and was coming at me. Luckily a park ranger who had been watching in her vehicle had seen me accidentally hook onto the baby gator, so she had started her vehicle towards me. I was so focused on the mother gator that I never knew the park ranger had driven up to me. When the mother gator came out of the water and started towards me, the park ranger drove her car down the bank towards us, honking her horn. I literally jumped on the back of the cruiser to get away from the mother gator. The gator slowly backed up, turned sideways, looked at my brothers tackle box, picked it up with its mouth, then gently sat it down, turned and went back into the water. Lol!!! I have always heard mother bears are very protective, but you can add mother gators and their babies to that list also!

It totally ignored my brother and sister-in-law. It would slide into the water, and pop up just a few feet from wherever I was standing. So I would move further along the bank, and a few minutes later it would pop its head up in front of me again. Only thing we could figure was because I had on a bright red shirt.

This guy went into this unprepared. I raised bear cubs for a while and the mom was giving body language that she was in a bad mood well before he gave her the grapes. She was purposely rubbing against branches which is a territorial display, she was chuffing, (breathing out of her nose loudly) and she was clacking (clicking her teeth together) which are all "back off" signals. He didn't know any of that body language so when he says its amazing "how fast it changes" he's full of it, cuz nothing changed, her mood was the exact same the whole time. He just was oblivious to it.
