Thanks for featuring my video! I think the majority of criticism for the BeamNG devs is targeted at the wrong things. More content is always beneficial, no matter the type of vehicle or map. But my primary concern in my 0.28 video was that quality should always be prioritised over pushing new content out. I wouldn't have criticised the update if I wasn't so accustomed to the high quality updates we had before.

I'm pretty new to the BeamNG community etc. as I only bought the game recently when coaxed into it by a friend, but it's very plain to see from forum posts and from the discord just how childish the community is. All the complaints I personally saw boiled down to UTV/Gambler 500 cars bad!!! which I think is missing the point a bit. On a side note, my friends and I really enjoyed the Gambler content, we held our own 2.4 Hours of Lemons with them on a BeamMP server and it was great fun. A lot of these complaints really just seem to be from people who fully convinced themselves of the content of an update and then were disappointed when these imaginary cars etc. didn't appear magically.

This is what people should do, if the update you were waiting for isn't for you, aka off-roading, racing, trucks, etc... just wait for another one. Just because the update isn't for you specifically it is for many other people + the game is improving, little by little it keeps getting better. I uninstalled the game and waited for a year, when I got on I noticed immediate improvements to the ui, loading times, sound design, crashes, more vehicles, career mode, more customization, better ai, etc.. People think developing games is easy, which is not, there are a lot of bad devs (2023 had a lot of bad devs and games) but beamng is not apart of them, they listen to the community and deliver, they need time but they deliver.

My only (I guess you can say) "complaint" about Beamng is that it's not on console. And I don't actively moan about that because it seems completely unrealistic. From what I've seen, the game is so detailed and has so much content in it and being added that I couldn't see it coming to console for another generation or two, if even at all. Not to mention how difficult porting over a game from PC to Xbox or PlayStation and optimizing its controls. Speaking of which, there are so many in-depth controls and requests in the game that binding all of that to just a controller is an unrealistic goal. Also not to mention mods. Now I could see myself playing the game completely vanilla and being absolutely content with it, but I'd love to have mods for it, like the Gavril Scout or the Acura TSX mod. And console mods would be difficult for a hypothetical Beamng console release, seeing as all mod cars in the game would have to be unlicensed to get on console which would be a headache for everyone. Even though I genuinely see console-friendly Beamng in my dreams, I don't actively yern for it and I don't expect it to happen for a long, long time. If even at all.

i mean the repo does exist ingame. so you COULD get mods on console if they did port it,but i doubt they'll do it while its early access or ever, since its already hard enough to run on pc (i mean not that hard to run but you get my point, consoles are i'm pretty sure weaker)

I’ll say it now. There is a fair bit of off-road content, and no, I didn’t really want the aurata. BUT HELL NO I WOULDNT TURN THE UPDATES DOWN. The aurata is great fun! And off-roading in beam is probably one of the best off roaming experiences you will have! People that complain about it likely haven’t ever touched off-roading. I never really liked off-road stuff, I was more of a casual driving person. But hell yea I’ll do some off-roading! The fact you can take basically any type of car and customise it to a beefy off-roader config, and then send it up a cliff just shows how much effort the devs put in! Now yes, the game does have a couple things I’d like to see. For example, deformable muds and sand and stuff, like you see in mud runner. But I understand that adding that sort of physics to the game takes a load of time, and might not even be possible with the beam engine. What people in this community need to understand is that making games, especially stuff like beam, takes time. And you can’t sit around expecting a new car every week. Because it just isn’t possible, especially considering how detailed beamng cars are. And plus, if you want a car, say a Toyota Prius. Just make the mod yourself! Or, even easier, just make one in automation!

Ad.1 - you just complained in the same point that people are both too vague and too specific. Which is almost like different people want different things and asking about any feature is "garbage critisism" according to your standards here. Ad.2&3 - "there's so much stuff devs are working on" - yes, and that's why people are annoyed by content they dislike. Because most of the time it means devs don't have time to develop stuff they (people who are complaining) are interested in. Offroaders are great example and 100% valid critisism. Currently Beam is unmatched for rock crawling and baja (if you create your own fun and don't want to actually race anybody) but offroading itself is niche within the niche. It's understandable why large part of playerbase "demand" something different. It's similar case to AMS2 "wasting" 9 months on oval content nobody was asking for. It's clear that there is small group of gamers and developers passionate about it, but for most people it's development time that could've been spend elsewhere. Ad.4 - dumb speculation and wishfull thinking is part of any community that is still passionate about "product" it's build around. It can be annoying but you know you're facing troubles if people don't even want to speculate about what's going next.

Hey, thanks for the detailed reply. Your input is very thoughtful. Yeah, I screwed up bad on that first part, and it all kinda meshed together. If I wanted to elaborate more, I wasn't a fan of stuff like "Where Supercar" in response to...basically any other major addition but also wasn't a fan of stuff like the discord message shown. It's not always specifically what people request (sometimes it is) rather how they request it and how ignorant it can be. When it comes to off-roaders, I mainly tried to get across that there still has been no shortage of stuff for other people to enjoy; I mentioned some of the big reasons why. I understand that off-roading appeal isn't as widespread but at the same time I didn't think the issue had gotten that bad. Plus, I personally don't think it's AS niche as you say it is considering the players I've interacted with but you're not wrong either way. I didn't think the usage of development time was terrible in regards of 0.27, with its content added across two years all while the community enjoyed regular updates of their caliber regardless of what they'd done. That space of time in particular between 0.21 and 0.27 was very productive, and the lead up to 0.27 is the shortest of any major update I can remember (until 0.30 actually) meaning that the actual time spent with that update as the main focus is rather low. 0.29 I mentioned before shouldn't be seen purely as an off-roading update with the Lansdale and Gambler customizations (I made a Covet ute race car. It's really fun) and even then that had exceptional circumstances that I think make it more warranted than normal, although some disappointment is fair. The Aurata in 0.30 had one of the shortest development cycles of a vehicle in recent memory, but still wound up feeling alright for a vehicle of its caliber: many other vehicles that people request probably would've taken more than twice the time so it mainly functions as something to pair with the other things in 0.30 as to fill the update some more. I'd also hedge a bet that they still worked on the T-Series remaster while that went on; it has like...40 something frames, it's certainly possible. This is all stuff I really should've included in the video... I wanted to speak out on the overhype because I'd been seeing a good chunk of irrational conclusions being drawn that were being pushed by community figures. Obviously, that stuff is going to be inherent, but even then, I feel like I have a ground to chip in on it as well if it starts causing problems, especially since I used to contribute to it. Overhype is better than no hype at all, but that doesn't mean we can't always do better. I don't intend on completely shutting down speculation nor do I think it will have a great impact even if that was specifically what I was aiming to do. But regardless, thanks for the comment and thanks for calling me out. You're a lot more reasonable than a lot of other players I see, so I respect that already.

i agree with all the things you said in this video, but, i feel you didn't go over the the complaints towards graphics. And as someone who plays around a lot with BeamNG's graphics and textures, i have my own complaints for its graphics, such as there being very small easy changes that can be made to that game that greatly uplift its appearance, and i have been working on a project to refresh the graphics of a lot of the vanilla maps, including adding functional dynamic streetlights. ive currently released East Coast, and am working on Italy now. so i believe that if i, some random 16 y/o teenager sitting in my room can make such changes to the look, whats stopping the devs from doing the same?

@@misterai5158 Yes and no. If you replace a texture with a texture of the same size, yeah, no performance difference. The fact that your only example includes dynamic streetlights, my guess is you are also adding more polygonal detail, etc. And then there is certainly the question on where they place their effort. And then there is a question of what visual style they want to go for in the end.... And there is also the question of whether they want to focus on graphical improvements during this stage in development, or if they want to focus far more getting engine upgrades so they can focus on graphical updates later. "so i believe that if i, some random 16 y/o teenager sitting in my room can make such changes to the look, whats stopping the devs from doing the same?" I had the same thoughts when I was a kid, but that's just not really how game development works. There can be many many many reasons why they don't do "small changes".

I feel like you're lumping in people that beg for the sake of begging, and giving in valid reasons. For example, car remasters. I think the Sunburst should have a remaster due to it's bad interior textures and it just being outdated. Not for just begging. However, the way you go about things makes me feel like you are preventing people from critizing why cars should be remastered. This may not be your intent but it sounds like it.

I see why, especially since many of my points did not come across very well; that's on me. Many complaints come from a reasonable standpoint, but it depends on how far people take them. Like, it's fair to want remasters for, say, the Sunburst and Burnside and whatnot (I do too), but when it comes to "the devs are taking this game the wrong way" with reasoning like them focusing more on adding new stuff than taking care of the old, I find that to be very misled or over exaggerated while also misunderstanding how the game's development works considering the stuff I've said. This is all stuff I should've emphasized more in the video, so I can't blame you. Thanks for the comment.

Next time you want all this stuff added into the game just try thinking of coding and modeling, that'll humble you right up. In conclusion, just be nice.😊
