Beach boat sea fishing and Lowestoft fish market. Norfolk UK. Herring fresh fish. Pike bait .

Well I generally dont go to sea on a Friday, but Ive had a few anglers ask for some bait. Well the low water was at 6.54am, so I thought I would get the last half hour of darkness and a further 15 mins of tide while it was getting light. It was a very cold morning, I arrived at the boat and the temp was in the minus figures. The boat was covered with ice. I got everything ready and hoped the tractor would start! After a few preheats, the old girl fired up and we were on our way. We only shot 1 fleet of ten nets, we didnt want many fish, just a few stone for a few pike anglers. There were plenty of fish showing on the sounder. We had a look on before the tide finished, and there were enough fish for us. We hauled the gear, but the fish were not all the way through, plenty each end of the fleet, but not a lot in the middle. We then ran ashore, pulled the boat clear of the water, put the buoys under and one of them burst with a bang. Now the boat was leaning over, it makes it harder than no buoys to level out. I cut the good buoy off, and put it under the hauler side of the boat and winched her on the trailer. We then went back and cleaned the nets. I did take two boxes of fish over the fish market, there was only a dozen kg in each, but I didnt want to waste them, and my freezer is full. I then videod the fish market to give you a little insight to whats there now.

I love Herring, Kippered. Do you folks ever smoke your own herring? I love the lines of your boat with the high bow, and lapstrake sides. Have you done a video walk thru of your boat in detail? I am guessing it is a fiberglass hull but could be mistaken. I used to use a rowing dory to lay my nets, or I'd use a raft made from a large truck inner tube with plywood bottom, and swim the net out from the beach. Fortunately the water stays relatively warm no need for wetsuit. All history now as gillnets have been banned here for over 20 years.

Yes I do occasionally smoke the herring. They make lovely kippers when they are full of oil and roe. Yes the boat is fibreglass, it’s a tactile 21. If you search tactile boats there is a website with all details and pictures. They are locally made

Very interesting to see the fish market, it would be nice to see the auction if you could film it. Hopefully you'll get a good price for the herrings.

Someone filmed it a few years ago, but it got stopped as people didn’t want others to see what they had caught

Ive heard a lot of similar stories, with herring on a bit of twine. You couldnt imagine kids doing it now, they might get scales on their hands and mess up their phone screen. Its a shame not a lot of people eat them anymore
