Small boat commercial fishing. I have been fishing in small commercial beach boats since I was 8 years old, my father does it, his father, and many generations before hand. Im the owner of a small beach launched vessel on the Norfolk coast. In the autumn and winter we mainly fish with drift nets for herring. Around xmas we also fish for sprats too. In the summer we catch thornback rays, bass, mackerel, mullet, sea trout, smooth hounds, dog fish, brown shrimps, brown crabs, lobsters and a few other bits and pieces using drift nets, tangle nets, longlines, jigging machines, pots and a shrimp trawl. Mostly traditional techniques that have been used for centuries, these are unfortunately dying out with the modernisation of the fishing industry, and the changes in peoples habits of eating certain species of fish.
Im also an apprentice served electrical and mechanical engineer for over 25 years, so complete all of the maintenance on my boat and tractor myself.

Thanks for sharing a lovely place to fish. Shame about the boats.
Most boats arent too bad, there will always be one person with little experience
Every day's, a school day beany.great lesson for all, perhaps do a crab next time mate, great upload, kind regards Mike, Norfolk.
Where have the big ones gone, Seals!?
Just how it is. Plenty more little ones compared to big ones
Whereabouts where you fishing, looks idylic?
The river Thurne at Martham
hi, enjoyed the vid, did you park at martham boats car park ?
No, I was told they don’t allow parking or fishing there now
@@beanysfishing2555 ok cheers
really nice fish Beany loved watching this video👍👍👍
Cheers. I’m glad you enjoyed it
@@beanysfishing2555 i did matey
Nice to see you throwing undersized fish back plus the lobster with (coral)eggs. I watched so called fishermen keep undersized where I live. Just for the record some unscrupulous lobster fishermen used to cook and eat the Nancy's in a roll on their way back to port, subsequently the decline in the population over the years. Happy fishing to you.
Yes, you have to think of the future. Short term thinking taking undersized and berried lobsters
I did enjoy that mate, I love fishing in the reeds like that but most of the blasted boat 'skippers' aren't watching where they're going, It's worse up near Norwich when you get the rowers going backwards and a cox in another boat with an outboard shouting at them. One wasn't watching and ploughed into me on the bank, very apologetic but didn't pay for the broken landing net handle. Martham is a good place in Winter, not so many boats, as well as bream I've had decent roach to an ounce short of 2 pound up there, so much wildlife on the broads, I can't do it now I can't drive so far, take care, Norfolk Ray.
Yes, most of the boats stayed in the middle of the river, which is ideal, but one hit my gear. You can’t see them coming with the high reeds.
Great stuff, my old stamping ground. 👍
Hahhaha mine too many years ago
Beautiful scenery thanks Beany
It is lovely there
Have you had a go at Acle between the bridge and the rental shalat by the bent boating speed sign deep water there me and the misses fish in that spot a rod length out we were catching some good Bream and large roach .We haven't been recently but always fish there when we do
No I havent mate, Ive only just started coarse fishing again after many years carp fishing. I will have to give it a look at Acle
Is that a new fishing stage James, I am aware of the 3 over the bridge. The video brings back memories, used to bike out there as a kid with my rod tied to bike😂. We used to catch loads of roach and perch, can’t remember bagging tench.
It’s the first one over the bridge. They have put a new anti slip covering on it, it used to be decking, which was dodgy when wet. There used to be a few tench years ago, some cracking ones nearly 10lb, but they were kept quiet.
Don't wish your life away mate I retire next year and I moved to Somerset 10 years ago and the last 10 years has gone so quick good watch as always keep the video's coming its much appreciated
Cheers mate. hahaha time does really fly, you see fb memories come up and think was it really 10 years ago?
feels really calm Beany cheers
It was a really nice evening down there
Smashing scene at the end and a lovely day all told, last time I was there we were on a boat by the lilies and caught several rudd over a pound plus a few bream only about 2 lb. I think you're very kind feeding the smaller rudd, the pike and perch will enjoy them, seriously though Beany that was a nice change, I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you do more freshwater as well as the sea fishing, take care mate, Norfolk Ray
Thanks Ray, it was a nice change and I enjoyed too. I even went this morning again and got a few bream!
@@beanysfishing2555 Did you record catching the bream and was it the same place? My best river carp ( I don't normally fish for them, I was after a big perch) came from Postwick at just under 20 lb.I like catching bream in the river, take care mate, Ray
@@raymitchell4220 I went on the Thurne this morning. I will put the video up tomorrow
For some reason Rudd, seems to have become the most numerous fish in many of Norfolk’s waterways these days, it used to be Roach years ago and Rudd were a bit of a rarity….
Yes, you are spot on. I’ve never caught so many Rudd. It used to be alive with roach. It’s funny how things change.
Lovely relaxing video cheers
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it
Ask lee Todd about fishing filby he will tell you and put you right he’s fished that for donkey years
I would rather poop in my hands and clap! hahaha
Make it a double vist those little farm ponds you used to fish as a nipper.
The local ditches after sticklebacks!
just gorgeous nature out there, would like to try my rod there ! i bet theres some decent pike around
Its a lovely area, theres still a few pike in there
@@beanysfishing2555 sounds neat :)
Blimey, those fish are getting fed better than me, I use layers mash a lot in my ground bait mainly because we keep poultry, you said about colour feeding canaries, did you ever keep them, we do, really looking forward to the video, i'm sure you'll catch plenty, if not it's not for want of trying. As well as decent bream I've had some nice rudd in that broad, take care and enjoy yourself mate, take care, Norfolk Ray
Hello Ray, I never kept canaries. The bird food was from Haiths, which invented robin red, and I used to use it making boilie mixes up. I dont miss rolling 25kg boilies thats for sure!
Good luck when you go. 30 year ago we always fished Filby broad down towards Burgh Common and had some great mixed catches, not sure if Filby Bridge in navigable now? It used to be quite tight back then.
Cheers. I havent put a boat under Filby bridge in decades. I will ask Richard at Filby restaurant when I next see him, hes the man to ask on these matters. Im sure you can, as all his boats are onm the other side of the bridge to the main filby broad
cant wait for the fishing video Beany👍👍👍👍👍
I can’t wait to go. Hopefully there will be a few fish there
Keep it old school beany good luck with your fishing trip tomorrow beany
Cheers mate, I cant wait!
Fantastic advice Beany, not being a smart ass but I've been looking at frozen lobster at lidl but wasn't sure if to defrost first and how to cook safely?
@@johnbarnes9379 aren’t they already cooked and frozen? I’ve tried them, and they aren’t very good. They aren’t any cheaper than UK lobsters by weight. They are around 350g, where our size limit is 525g ish. There isn’t anything on them. I would buy a fresh one and really enjoy it dipped in melted butter!
How do you dress a lobster , ie are there dead men’s fingers like crabs ????
@@MrWarrenhudson you put on little jumpers and tiny shoes! They are different, so you don’t have to do anything with them.
Yes mate salting is amazing method for preserving baits. I just caught some slimy mackerel what you Brits call Joey Mackeral??? But I've just threw them in my salting bucket ready for the upcoming trip😄 Tip for anyone is that I wouldn't salt more then 24-48h as after 48h it gets too stiff and fish ignore it. But good fish lads and godbless.😁👍
I salt down bait all year for crabs and lobsters, they dont mind it. Good luck next time mate
Love it beany a bit of carp fishing my domain from Ben Golby
Hahaha I wish my bait boat batteries weren’t stuffed. I’m not used to spodding out all that bait.
Thanks for finding out for us Beany, take care, Ray
yes bring it on x
I've only got back into fishing after a 25 year break(life) but 3 months in with area and coarse i can't understand why i stopped. Stick with it with your grandson, this kind of thing can give them a new way of life and open them up to someone they feel close to. Happy fishing bud
Glad you got back in it. I haven’t got any kids mate, but it sounds like you are having fun with yours
Was that Rollesby broad before the staging? Back in the day I used to wade out as a youngster with my deckchair and fish from point where my bum wouldn't touch the water when sitting. Nowadays I think people fishing from the staging reach as far as I used to sit lol
Yes it was Rollesby broad before the staging. I have a pic in my shorts of it totally dried out when they pumped too much water out in the 90s

@@adamshepherdson4454 dibs on the first bit of staging, the wife is waiting for a new hip so we fish as a couple so I can make sure she doesn't fall in 😁
That was a bit odd, my son got my tackle box out yesterday for me to look through, my grandson in Poole is more interested in course fishing yet the sea is about 600 yards from him. Unfortunately he's got serious autism and ADHD and now gets real anxiety going anywhere much, the last time he came here was 2 years ago and I took him to a local lake, it was the last time I was able to go. He did a bit of sea fishing earlier that same year as I bought him a rod and showed him how to use it, he caught a few schoolies and pout but wanted to go to a lake, his mum took him with a cheap rod and reel off facebook and started catching perch and rudd. As he's a junior his mum has to go with him but hes been doing Whattsapp with me asking about stuff hence sorting out stuff for him. I'm not keen on carp, I much prefer the silvers and tench so it'll be interesting to see how you do, Nice one mate, I'm getting there but it's a long time coming, you take care, Norfolk Ray
hahaha what a coincidence we both got the old gear out. I cant wait to give it a try. Glad to hear you are getting better
The Thurne between Somerton and Martham is fishing well atm. Do well 👍
Cheers. I used to fish the matches along there with Martham club when I was a kid. It was all silvers and eels then.
As a suggestion To stop you getting your life jacket caught up in the nets and rope. Put it on under your bib and brace. It will still work properly and stop you getting pulled overboard. Hopefully this will help you. 👍
Yes, its got to be worth a try thanks!
I fished yarmouth South beach this morning, I had a feeling that was you close to shore 😂
hahahaha you were correct. I hope you done better than me on the fish!
@beanysfishing2555 one tiny dab and a hound pup . That wind blowing from the north killed it off for me in the end but still nice to be out there.
@@tomhunter1517 yes, its been hard work lately. Doesnt seem to be a huge amount of fish inside
God help us if labour let the French fish our waters again there wnt even be jelly fish😮
Fishing isnt sounding too sharpish under that shower, but its what the country voted for
@beanysfishing2555 they wnt give a flying fish about the fishing industry, will sell it out to have closer ties with Europe and cheap hols for there younger voters
Nice one again Beany your very good on camera a very likeable man keep up with the good work 👍👍👍
Cheers mate, I know my vids arent the best, but the amount of editing and faffing when I'm running out of time and tide, its as about as good as it gets
Hi beaney, love the sea fishing the best coz u can eat what u catch and u present it so well , but a bit of freshwater fishing in your company be great , if there r any and the bloody otters not ate everything
hahaha Im going through my old tackle, and I'm going to bait up where I started my freshwater fishing with my grandad when I was 10ish. Maybe I can winkle a few fish out, maybe not, but it will bring back a lot of good memories
I bet there's folk that think you earn fortunes seeing the price of fish in the shops and think you must get fed up picking all the mackerel and sea trout out the nets, we know different with the seals etc. at least they don't get to any crab or lobster easily, thanks for the video, take care both of you, Norfolk Ray.
Cheers Ray, we are lucky here, on the south coast, they have learned how to open the pots, eat the bait and the tails off lobsters. I hope you are keeping well
That's the patrica
Yes, the old chap got his binos out and we realised it wasnt the old ship. I mentioned it in the video, but its probably easily missed
Thanks for the video Beany, that's why it's called fishing and not called catching lol
Thank god for that! Its been the worst summer Ive ever known

Good video Beany love it get a boat 🚢 for the fenland fishing in the winter for some big pike with the big old floats John Wilson style hot flasks for a cup of Tea 🍵 I know Norfolk well I like Norfolk old fashioned it gets very cold on the East Coast you want a nice big fur trapper hats like a Russian style hat they are lovely and warm that old cold wind when it blows it cuts in deep very cold 🥶 indeed but all the old school Norfolk boys showed me newspaper clippings of photographs of massive pike in the winter that fishermen would catch on the dykes very interesting very best wishes to you Beany and your family from Ben Golby 👌 👍
