He was more like teaching him. Fealing sorry changes nothing, but if you make a mistake and improve because of that then that's enough. At this point Atreus was much less expirienced, and in a hard world like the one they live in he had to become stronger. It was cold, far from perfect father, but it was right in its own way and far from abuse. If anything people are abusing word "abuse" nowdays a little.
