Two years later , population of Ukraine had decline to less than 20 millions from 52 millions at time of independence,forced to undergo 10 waves of mobilizations , and now struggling with manning its front line , facing ammo shortages. Western top tiered weapons like patriot s,himars , switchblades , bayraktars , m777 , leopards tanks ,Abrahams,JDAM s ,numerous other game changers have consistently failed against Russian weapons . Russia is no longer isolated and nato countries like France and the Baltic poddles are being forced to sent troops and still failing to halt Russian advances . Ukraine is been forced to capture unwilling men at gun point and forcing them to join the military.

Whatever the figures, it is a shocking waste of [mainly] men's lives on both sides.

50K is a conservative figure, it is actually 3 times that. Casualties, ie.. injuries, are 2x to 3x that amount. Now do the math.

Wait a minute, every other source claims well over 450,000 casualties on the Russian side with almost half of them KIA! How could everyone else be so wrong?!?

Wondered the same thing, but found this: -The 450 000 are dead, wounded, prisoners and missing. In war there's usually many more wounded then killed (and we don't know how many will heal quickly) - The basis for the 50 000 is obituaries on the internet, so it's a minimum confirmed. It counts only the ones with an obituary on the net that states they died in Ukraine, and has to be found. So many are going to be missed out. -All the ones blown up in those giant explosions or left lying in woods and ruins will likely be noted 'missing' forever and not show up here. -Note that the BBC is very prudent in reporting...and that's good.

All the numbers you speak of aren’t possible . They mobilized 180k to start . Have reinforced with 300k . Those are spread out for defences and assault units etc . Air Force , transport . The true numbers are around 50k for Russian soldier losses , and usually it’s a 8 to 1 ration . 8 being the defenders losses to every one of the attackers . Hence why Ukraine is asking for another 500k to be called up

The comparison is poor. Vietnam was the jungle, Afghanistan mountains. Ukraine is nearly completely flat just like Russia is in large parts. That means Guerilla tactics are far less effective for example.

Moreover, Vietnam did not only use guerrilla strategy in the ground, they used sky guerrilla warfare too, Ukraine can do this if they want because they have better air forces than Vietnam but they did not use so...

Actually 50000 is what a very small group of people (probably less than 10) have found searching obituaries, graves and social networks of friends and relatives of the deceased. As happens with Oryx, a few guys cannot count everything that appears on the internet, and only a fraction of the destroyed/killed appears on the internet. So the figures are way higher.

You're so in love with BBC. But you wouldn't jump in the middle of frontline war to stop and ask questions for news broadcasting. It's rather unforgiving to water down the deaths of soldiers on both sides to some statistical rates. Families of these men and women are devastated with grief, and nightmares. President Putin is cold as frozen blue fin fish. The war will end, sooner, than later. The focus of the war is based on cocaine distribution. You can't be a country leader, and be pushing drugs for cartels whoever are claiming territories that doesn't belong to them, are hell bent.

In contrast the Afghan War lasted for 9 years, it cost 15,000 killed and 35,000 wounded seriously. Some say 400,000 wounded since 2022.

To put this into some perspective... The US lost 55,000 in over 10 years in Vietnam. So 50,000 Russians in 2 years is catastrophic! This figure is considered low by embeded independent journalists. The number of MIAs and POWs is also extremely high.

I don’t get why a high quality media outlet like the BBC isn’t capable of getting rid of simple hiss in their audio.

For those who haven't figured it out, 50,000 killed, 300,000 casualties which mean injured, disfigured, sick and missing. Out of that 300,000 a wound could be as much as a bullet to the shoulder and the soldier is out fighting again 3-4 weeks later.

Looks like Russia's war strategy is "send in the troops... and then send in the undertakers!

We're regularly bombarded with what generally appears to be inflated figures of Russian casualties, but for some reason, it's incredibly difficult to hear of Ukrainian losses from the same sources.

They lost 50,000 pieces of equipment you know more than one person dies in those. Bs numbers

Russia keeps track of how many troops they deploy... once they are in the field, all account is lost. Defected, captured or dead, they are almost at 500k. The number passed 50k in 2022.

I believe 50,000 KIA’s is a pretty low estimate. Back in January the figure was around 450,000 casualties, with about 1/3rd being KIA. Now it’s down to 50,000 ? No way. Maybe that number is just those who received a burial ? The numbers cannot be accurately counted as many of those killed were in armoured vehicles and tanks, they would have been totally obliterated. Also the large number of Russian POW’s, captured or surrendered, will have greatly depleted their fighting force. Not that Putin is worried about the numbers, he will just have another round of conscription. So more mothers, wives, children and family members can mourn the loss of their loved ones.

Prisoners* mainly let’s be honest. They’ve reduced their prison population which saves millions every year. Doesn’t take a genius to work out why they sent them.

A Nepali co worker of mine told me his friend is fighting in the Wagner group in the Russian army since recruitment in late 2022. He said that out of 50 in his batch only 15 are left alive.

@@MrKuti89 I mean while that makes sense, even Ukraine admits Russia has a 6-10 fold advantage in armoured fighting vehicles, artillery, drones, aircraft and guided missiles/munitions so it would make sense if Ukraine suffered more casualties than Russia (due to its overwhelming firepower advantage). In artillery shells alone Ukraine fires 6,000 to 8,000 shells a day while Russia fires upwards of 40,000 to 60,000. Plus, Zelensky signed a new law which removed the need for soldiers to be demobilised after 36 months of combat, meaning they can remain on the frontline until they are wounded, die or are captured and there is increasing evidence of them just snatching random men off the street. I think most of this evidence, alongside continued Russian advances show that Ukraine will soon be at the end of the line when it comes to their available manpower reserve, which means they either have to mobilise hundreds of thousands of additional troops, negotiate or continue to have the situation rapidly deteriorate the way it is now.

Ukraine has a small population of around 28 million. Russia has about 140 million.

Amazing how the BBC can determine the number of Russian casualties from their offices, but can't seem able to determine the number of Ukrainian casualties! 😋

Haven't watched the whole video but it talks about the increasing size of Russian cemeteries. My guess is that as Russians often leave their wounded behind they probably wouldnt care too much about, even if they could, to recover bits of bodies literally blown to pieces. So for every dead soldier's body, returned to the motherland for burial, there must be many more dead lying in Ukraine . So that 50,000 is only a fraction of the real death toll.

Why didn't you show that died sitizenes in Chernihiv? Franch soldiers?
