The BBC is a corporation. It’s not owned or run by the state.

What angers me most is the BBC receives ALL the TV Licence fees and yet none of the other independent TV stations receive any fees and the licence fee payers can’t watch these other stations without a licence. In my opinion this is the definition of racketeering and the BBC have become professional racketeers.

No they are the BBC (BUNCH OF BLOODY CRIMINALS) and Robbing the Public in a massive way and yet our Government are totally incapable of responding to the Electorate and allow this to happen. We desperately need REFORM and the sooner the better. At least they have very positive and clear views as to how they would deal swiftly and positively with major issues which the 2 main parties are totally incapable of doing.

Owning or not owning a TV has nothing to do with it, even though it's called a 'TV' licence. You could have 20 TVs in your home and not require a licence, or you could have no TV and still require a licence for watching live broadcasts on another device.

Me too. It's easy to complete the application form online to register "No licence required". I don't miss any BBC programmes and I don't watch iPlayer. I don't watch any live streaming content on any device. I now select the programmes I want to see and have quality time watching TV. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have to ask myself why is it the Tory party hate the BBC so much. is it because they ask questions. The number of times the government has failed to appear on TV or Radio to answer questions is frankly a disgrace. Channel 4 has the same issue, they slso are hated snd when asking for a government spokesperson on a topic of importance but no one was put forward or the excuse not available . What I heavens are we paying these MP,s for sitting in the commons bars having a jolly good time or working in their second jobs.

Seeker it seems clear to me that it is the Tory ministers who think they run the B B C .Who believes that people like Braverman or Rees Mogg represent the ordinary viewer or listener ? The Tories were glad to have a National Broadcaster during the Covid lockdown but we are now back to the usual knockabout with the Government moaning about left wing bias and Labour suggesting the Corporation is running scared of threats from the right wingers. I think the U K gets good value from the BB C but it does worry me that a friend of Boris is currently the Chairman of this respected organisation .

I've not watched TV let alone BBC for decades. I've watched DVDs, and later streamed when they became available. I've never once missed TV programmes on any channel. We once had lives where entertainment was outside the home not within it. We have secluded as a society because we no longer need to mix and mingle to have any joy or entertainment. We lost so much when we retreated into our homes, our passivity knocked the last nail in the coffin of so many external joys. Country fate's, may day celebrations dancing around may poles, churches and church street parades at Easter etc. Social clubs and working men's clubs all gone, and now pubs following suit. Soon cinema will be gone and theatre. Our reluctance to seek entertainment that requires active engagement rather than "sit n click" has ruined society as a whole. There is precious little that TVs have brought to society. Yes they enable the elderly to while away their twilight years when the elderly should be sharing those precious few years in the company of others not left alone with an inanimate box, with an oracular persona. TV destroyed society. We don't need to simply discuss the role of the BBC, we need to discuss the role of TV as a whole in society and its impacts and harms to societal cohesion and involvement.

@@donaldgrieve5953 I personally can't stand the shouty, non-stop commentary (on any channel) full of inane pointless stats. I much rather hearing the crowd and getting a sense of the atmosphere. I can't for the life of me understand why the BBC removed the function from the Red Button that allowed viewers to mute the commentary on live matches: I can see the game, I don't need some gibbering dweeb telling me what's happening in front of my eyes.

What does me is I don't watch the BBC but I have satellite TV so because I have the Sky package I have to pay to watch Sky on my TV. It makes me sick paying a TV TAX.

Spot stream it from your parents house lol or somebody who does have a licence, since only the on-demand or live broadcast is covered.... Meaning a secondary 30 second delay makes your viewing not licence covered and free for non licence holders.

I felt the same, so I cancelled Sky when I stopped paying the TV Tax. At first my wife objected, now she has discovered all the stuff she was missing because she no longer watches scheduled TV. There is so much available on the various catch up platforms, KZread and the likes of Netflix, that you will be left wondering why you didn't leave the BBC and Sky many years ago.

The BBC won't make that decision, they know that they are screwed without the fee, that's why they have been trying to change the law so its not so easy to just stop paying.

Regrettably there seems to be a growing number of people like you, who would prefer TV services to be commercialised. It amazes me that they prefer this option especially when adverts are being shown every 12 minutes of each hour! If you are happy with this then you have a greater tolerance level than me! After awhile I get fed up with my front room being turned into a shopping mall!

@@bereal6590 Football is a business that has to attract its customers on its own merits. BBC has a monopoly over all live broadcasts / streaming and therefore should be though of a tax. Gary Linekar is probably the highest publically funded figure in the UK (after the Royal Family).

The licence fee is already scrapped if you scrap it yourself (by not paying it). It's a subscription anyway, not a licence.

I'd settle for LINEKER being scrapped!

Out in the everyday working world I can't recall meeting anyone who is not in support of stopping illegal immigration, must be different on the twitter machine.

Jack, you are forgetting the difference between refugee/asylum seeker migrants and economic migrants. They have heard about all the benefits they get here if the just get to land. That's why they are here. Economic migrants. If your an asylum seeker you are not travelling the length of Europe and going through more stress when you have already reached a safe place.

You do not need the TV tax unless you watch BBC BBC iPlayer and anything broadcast live.

Since hearing what Mr Lineker has said, I’ve been deeply upset, have not slept worrying wether to pay the licence fee, I think I need some help & may seek counselling!

As soon as my Sky contract ends I’m cancelling my TV license. We shouldn’t have to pay for something we don’t use and if the BBC are of the opinion it’s so wonderful they can encrypt it and those that want to watch it can pay for it.

I don't have a TV licence, as I don't watch the BBC, use iPlayer, or watch live TV. I listen to the radio, read newspapers and watch catch-up programmes.I save 159 pounds a year. I have never watched match of the day or the pillock who presents it.

Carol free speech needs to be defended in the face of the Tory hysteria which has been on display in recent days. The policy unveiled by Braverman will not work as the issue of Migrants cannot be solved by the UK and the E U alone. However, the same freedom,of speech was not there when Nana Akua voiced her opinion whilst working freelance for the BBC... she lost her job. Holding football to ransom seems to have heated the debate... its not about freedom of speech its about impartiality when you sign a BBC contract to,say you remain impartial. I really hope that on the back of this Nana takes them to court over unfair dismissal. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Personally I would sack the lot of them... they have held the BBc to ransom and won
