Not really. He simply refused to say "I am against gay marriage" by saying he believes in Catholicism view of the world. Thus, clearly he is against gay marriage. It's similar to someone saying "I'm not racism I just take the views of the KKK". He refuses to say the words because that will be used against him and drive away voters. And while I don't agree with his views, I would have much more respect for him if he openly said his views rather and dodge the question.

This is what sets Jacob apart from other politicians. He's honest and tells it like it is! Sdakouls3 "The same legal rights as heterosexuals" is very misleading, his only votes against "rights" have been purely on the marriage issue. I found this pathetic attempt at character assassination abhorrent - especially since on their youtube upload they cut out the start of the interview where they discuss liberal intolerance of views they claim unorthodox. I'm gay too and I don't consider gay marriage to be of particular importance. I am perfectly happy, if gay marriage is important to them, for people to vote for it but I do not consider it the burning issue of our time. I would trust Jacob on the crucial issues facing our nation and his views on _free vote_ topics frankly do not even factor into my calculations for choosing good governance.

I’m a Catholic. I know exactly how Rees Mogg feels with these terribly insulting comments and questions about his faith. It’s almost as if the interviewer is implying you have to be faithless to be a politician. Or to become a politician one must change their faith (I.e Modernism) to suit a general population. It’s disgusting. As for Piers Morgan (I actually disagree with the Church) well, you’re not a Catholic then! Didn’t see Sadiq Khan or Sajid Javid get asked this sort of thing as they are Muslim. Mogg is vilified not for his politics as he is actually highly intellectual and a great debater, but because of his own personal religious beliefs.

I believe that JRM is one of those very rare people who have what they want and want what they have. He has stated on numerous occasions that his ambitions in life are to be a good father to his children and husband to his wife, a good representative of his constituents in Somerset and a staunch defender of the freedoms and democracy of Parliament. From what I have seen of him he is doing his best with all those aims. As his public image grows, so will the media have dug like demented terriers after any bone of contention that they could use to bring him down. If the best they can find is that he is a devout Catholic then I fear their cause is lost. The list of politicians who have survived affairs, expenses scandals, publically worshipping comprehensive education and sending their own children to private schools...... Keep digging media, or if you can't find anything, make it up like you usually do.

This man is so deeply impressive. In a time when politicians bend with the wind to court popularity we have a man who has his own religious convictions but the humility to understand he has no right to force those views on others in a democracy where Government and the church are clearly separate. I used to think Rees-Mogg is more effective as a back-bencher free from the constraints of responsibility and free to say what he really thinks but perhaps we need great men to lead a nation. And a man who is unprepared to compromise his personal religious convictions and defend his position so effectively is a man to trust. I think he would be able to gain the respect of not only out and out Tories but that of traditional Labour voters and people of other faiths.

so glad to see in the comments so much support for the Mogg, nothing more admirable than a man with convictions, who isn't afraid to stand by what he says, regardless of popular opinion. newshacks seem so used to SJWs falling over themselves to apologise for any itty bitty offence they may have caused, that they don't quite know how to deal with someone who is forthright, honest and has more than an ounce of integrity. remember kids, the most important word in the english language happens to be one of the shortest, 'no'. as in, no, i won't let you dictate to me what i should think.

A good example of how the media twist and distort things , JRM was clearly asked onto the program to talk about Brexit, but they tried to interrogate about stuff he had not prepared for, The Mogg totally destroyed them 😮🤣🤣
