    Yo Barnesy, don’t worry too much about the gaps, the vehicles were never built to a precise standard more of a market/price tag than anything else. At the end of the day it’s the overall presentation that gets the heads turning and the thumbs up from other appreciative drivers, not forgetting the fact that it’s yours ! 👍👍

    Yeah I know, but unfortunately I couldn't let them go through that wide, I've studied a lot of factory utes and the panels were a lot better than what mine were so I assessed it was my repairs. All good they are sorted now!

    I'd hear ya both up a hour before spraying we use a diesel heater. Gets it nice and warm and dry too so no moisture in air

    We have a couple of Arlec 2000W Convection Panel Heater we got from Bunnings that I leave in the booth running why I paint and after for a couple of hours they do the trick.

    I can't run panel heater unfortunately as I'm on solar out here, so has to be gas or diesel, or I just go and rent a heated booth somewhere.

    Barnesy, Making good progress, I agree those gaps would have given you the complete shits every time you looked at them. It would have been a trimatic auto, I had an 84 Commodore with a 308 completely original Berlina and it was a trimatic ( some would say traumatic). When the vacuum hose perishes they won’t go out of 2nd gear which is a different story but will save somebody a lot of money. The L36 is the WB 253, which was the only 253 to get the Quadrajet carby (slightly smaller than the 308 one). Jeff

    Thanks Jeff, yes I was corrected on the TH350 which I believe came out in the Statesmans and Monaros or only attached to 308's. So I guess someone bought the running gear from a statesman during the first build and put them in then.

    Good ep mate ! Lots done and you’re definitely reaping the rewards ! You tube is marvellous ain’t it - if ya wanna know something then the University of KZread is the go ha , I’m no different . My budget solution to the cold climate because the paint has a temp range to cure properly is oil heaters they take the chill out the booth/air well, just pop a couple in the corners of the booth for a couple of hours before you paint the warm the metal slightly and leave on during and after the painting process man

    Hey Barnesy awesome work as always mate, I am curious to your thoughts on the Thinner gauge tailgate that you bought? Did you notice much flexing once hinged? Thanks legend

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks mate, I haven't actually bolted her up yet which could be a mistake but when I laid it on it looked like a pretty good fit, the hinges sit on the inner part which seems pretty strong. If you were using it as a work horse and dropping the tailgate to load the tub then I guess it could damage it but highly unlikely for a Sunday cruiser when it's very rarely going to be used. Seems fine to me with no oil canning and beside some small filler work on the folds very straight.

    Hi Barnsey I just noticed in this episode you are still using your Cigweld 135 Mig, I went back to ep 10 to check. Have you used this welder for all your body/panel work? I just picked one up myself, a few people have turned their noses up, so I was glad to yours in the background, gives me confidence to forge ahead!!! Cheers mate! Nick

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes I have used the 135 Mig for all the sheet metal work and it's been perfect. I used a stick welder to build the rotisserie arms as it was on 5mm thick tube that the 135 struggled with. If it's just sheet metal for restos it's a great little welder.

    For heating the spray booth/area does anyone see a problem with one of those window mounted reverse cycle air conditioners as a heater ? Perhaps it could be mounted into a sheet of ply or an old door that is incorporated into the wall of the booth. 🤔

    I run 2 fans 1 extraction and 1 pumping filtered air into the booth, i aways heat my booth up with a gas heater to at least to 28 deg before I start painting and try to keep it above 25 deg,if you paint it at 20deg make sure you give it a good 20mins to 25 mins between coats to let the solvents out or you will get solvent pop and it will stuff ya paint job. Looking good buddy how’s the engine going?
