I was an exchange student in Tokyo many, many years ago, and a Filipino fellow student sang this song with his guitar when we had a cultural night. I was so touched by the melody, and it moved me to tears, even though I didnt understand the meaning at that time. So I then learnt the lyrics and it has been one of my favourite songs. Now I'm so happy to watch Bayan Ko being sung so beautifully in Pilipino and English too....Aking adhika makita kang sakdal laya...hear my fondest wish, to see you forever free. Love this! (By the way, I'm Indonesian, your neighbour).

'Cradle fraught with tears and misery'. Thank you Hannah for delivering the message. I hope everybody paid attention to the lyrics of the song as most of people enjoy only the melody and performance. When Philippines pays off their $160B IMF debt then they can declare they are free. Times have changed and we have been singing this song since 1929 written by Jose Corazon de Jesus and Constancio de Guzman in protest of the American occupation during that time. Now you can physically say they are not occupying your land but had left your wallets not only empty but with a $160B debt from the IMF. And even borrowed more money (by the Philippine Govt) to fund the Covid 19 problem. But everybody ended up with Ayudas of canned sardines for the maybe P2,000,000,0000 spent to Covid19 efforts. Corruption is in the hearts and minds of many Filipinos and Filipino officials, it has become a way of life. Is there still hope?

WOWWW! 👏🏼🙌🏼💯 I AM STUNNED to see this graceful video and translation of the song. It’s so difficult to translate it as it is composed with the deepest words of sorrow when the motherland was captured by foreigners. It was once literally the land of gold, the sea flourished with pearls and other natural rich commodities. The once richest country in Asia over the years was taken for granted, sadly by my own fellow Filipinos because the country had to endure such hardship that greed and other means of climbing the ladder was chosen over our very own blessed natural wealth… in exchange for its monetary value. They could’ve replaced and replenish the sources but somehow, corrupt leaders turned a blind eye and my people led astray. I love my country and it’s very land, but I wonder what happened to my people who took this amazing gift for granted. I side tracked for a second there because this song reminds me of how beautiful my country truly is, once a consistent part of the 7 Wonders Of The World. 😔. Nevertheless, this song and video is so amazing! Thanks to each and everyone who contributed to the making of this video. 🥰😇💖! Y’all each one did an awesome job! THANK YOU! ❤️ amazing translation too! 💕💕💕

Ironic to sing this in English, considering the original song was against American aggression. Our Philippine Homeland, whose land is of gold and purple. So many treasures hidden under, that tempted the thief. And that is why the Anglo-Saxon, with vile treachery is subjugating it; My Homeland in prison, free yourself from the traitor. Even the free bird in its flight, Cries when it is in the cage, How much more our beloved Homeland, To be without peace nor dignity. Philippines of my heart, Your children will never allow That you be robbed just like that, Of your well-being and your liberty.

It is very ironic, if not a tad offensive to sing this song in English. The original lyrics were written in Spanish by Gen. José Alejandrino (friend to Dr. José Rizal and Gen. Antonio Luna) and were very explicitly against the US and their British-derived culture. It refers to Americans as "anglosajones" (Anglo-Saxons) and characterizes them as vile and treacherous

literally ironic because the original version was against the American Occupation...
Extremely inspiring and stirring! The English translation captures well the emotion and meaning carried by the original Filipino lyrics, and as intended -- will certainly help convey the song's message to a wider, international audience.

the original version is Spanish, the tagalog version was translated by Jose Corazon de Jesus three decades later which is the popular version... the original version is written by the Revolutionary general, Jose Alejendrino... the original poem was written in a protest against American Occupation and a disgust on US' treachery on the negotiation in Treaty of Paris

I will use this in our Filipino translation classes. Thank you, fellow patriots.
Makes me cry every time I hear this beautiful song. There’s so much meaning.💔
happy independence day!

Absolutely beautiful rendition!!!
First time for me to hear this English translation. Filipinos should be singing this in their school with the national anthem. This will inspire the youth to love their country, The Phllippines. The Filipino lyrics will touch everyone's heart and soul. It is a classic.
Am crying listening to it again. So homesick. Hoping youth will learn from us, seniors. Nothing defines us more than family and Motherland. What have you done Duterte?

the tagalog version is translated and revised, the original version mentioned the term "Anglo-Sajon" because it was meant for the protest against American occupation in that time it was replaced with "dayuhan" in the later version

Ma'am, I have always been moved to tears by this song since I was a child but you still managed to make it more emotional and heartfelt. We're working on a school film project about the Gomburza, and this piece would be a perfect fit for our background music! Would it be possible to get your permission to use it, ma'am? We'll make sure to give you proper credit!
Man I wish she also sang the original version instead of the english translation

Hello can I know where u get the minus 1 of this song? I really need it po🥺
