I am Indonesian and I just love this song. Such a beautiful melody which touches my heart and could even bring tears into my eyes, and when I learned what the lyrics meant, wow, I silently cried more.

No it's not about a foreigner raping a Filipino woman. it's about the disdain of foreigners (Spaniards, Americans, and Japanese) colonizing a beautiful country (Philippines). In the song the country is compared to a bird where even it wants to be freed when captured, let alone a beautiful country.

Okay lang iyan. Para malaman ng buong mundo na "Bayan Ko" is supposed to have been the national anthem of the Filipinos!
