When I was in Vietnam up by the DMZ, the New Jersey did a firing mission up into the A Shau Valley. The rounds went right over our camp. We could hear the roar of the shells (sounded like a freight train) as they passed over, but we never heard the guns firing nor did we hear the explosions when they hit. I hate to see the old girl retire, but she is rather obsolete nowadays.
Thanks for not playing awful, useless music!! Well done!
These shots remind me vividly of the first time I saw it- I was about 9 years old and my dad took me to see it when it was in Longview, WA. The view from the bridge crossing the Columbia River was very much like this. If I recall correctly, it was on its final trip up to Bremerton for decommissioning.
Thank you very much. This brought tears to my eyes.
Watched the Navy upgrade it in eRly 80s in Long Beach CA. NAVY 79-83 BT
They just pulled Battle Ship Texas from dry dock a couple weeks ago for her final cosmedic work. Good to see'em both giving life
Build the Montanas!
Very nice ship!
I was waiting for "Hi! I'm Brian Sczmanski, curator for Battleship New Jersey Memorial and today...."
