Moving the Battleship New Jersey Drone Footage 4K

On Thursday, March 21st, the Battleship New Jersey was towed down the Delaware River towards the Philadelphia Navy Yard where she will be drydocked for 60 days.
This project is years in the making and will see restoration of the bottom part of the ship.
While in dry dock, a thorough examination will be conducted on approximately 165 underwater through-hull openings essential for various operations, such as engine cooling.
These openings were safeguarded with sheet-metal plates upon the ship’s decommissioning in 1991, and to date, only one instance of failure has been recorded.
The entire operation is projected to span at least two months, with the ultimate aim of returning the USS New Jersey to Camden in time for Memorial Day and the ensuing tourist season.
The Wildwood Video Archive has been documenting every step of the process with this being our 4th video on the Battleship New Jersey.

It's a joy to see her underway again, even under tug power. Come home healthy, great lady! I was stationed in Norfolk and was at the piers as we saw Iowa limping home after the explosion. It was heartbreaking. So very glad to see New Jersey sailing down the Delaware with flags flying to visit her birthplace. Take care of her, Philly!

I remember the New Jersey was in the Med off Lebanon shelling inland targets during the Lebanon Civil War in the early ‘80s. They said the 16 in. guns were hitting targets 25 miles inland. The shells were the size and wait of a small Volkswagen. Amazing!

In 1958, my father took our family to the Bayonne, NJ Naval Yard to visit the battleship New Jersey and the USS Franklin, "Big Ben" a WWII aircraft carrier. It was probably Memorial Day weekend. We toured the New Jersey and I remember how incredibly big it was. As a result I have always had a soft spot for the New Jersey. The Franklin tour took us on the flight deck and the air plane hangar. It was like being inside a huge warehouse. Many displays, some electronic were set up for us visitors to inspect. It was an exciting experience. The Franklin is long gone, having been sold to the scrappers but it is great to see the New Jersey live on.

It probably was Memorial weekend because back in the 50s it was a big thing to have open house on the Navy yards and bases . The Frankford Arsenal which was very very interesting mostly a Small Arms manufacturing plant in Philadelphia what was a great place to visit . I think most of that stuff stopped in the very early days at the start of Vietnam maybe 1960/61 .
