Battlefield Pick-Ups: A Possibility, Not A Plan

Ойын-сауық

Battlefield Pick-Ups: A Possibility, Not A Plan
You'll often hear that during SHTF there will be battlefield pick-ups all over the place. But is that something you'd bet on? Even if history shows it's real?
What types of battlefield pick-ups do you think we'd likely see here in the USA? Even with the historical precedent of battlefield pick-ups being a realistic event, do you think that planning on it being a primary source of defensive measures is a good idea?

Main Strategy? No, no, no, no, HELL NO. My SHTF weapons are chambered in the most popular calibers today, 556 NATO, 7.62 NATO, 12 gauge and 22lr. The only real out liar is .17wsm. And I’ve made sure each will eat even the junkiest ammo I can find.. Do I plan to throw my weapons that I’ve trained with to the side in favor of what I pick-up, especially if it has that switch everyone seems to wet their pants over? Nope, not at all. Ammo will be far too valuable to mag dump in full auto in my opinion. And why the hell would I drop what I’ve trained with all this time for something set up for someone else and I have ZERO training on it? I might pull some of the cool accessories tho. And damn sure not going to leave weapons lay if I can help it.. But one thing I’m not going to do is immediately run out to relieve someone of their gear they don’t need anymore.. That’s going to be a Darwin Award and snipers dream..

The best part about using your enemies' weapons after they have been deemed not being booby trapped is the report of them. The enemies know what their weapons sound like, and if they hear them behind their positions, they won't worry. If they hear our weapon reports well, they know we're behind them. But that only works with two different countries using different weapons in a SHTF situation. All kinds of weapons will ve used.

Plan for it? No. Plan to use it if it comes available? Yes. I feel confident that I can pick up any weapon and use it within seconds. Military training gave me a lot of variation, including weapons from various other countries. That being said, I'm going to prep to have the best that works for me already. BPUs might be a backup, or might even be a rare upgrade, but I'm not going to plan to have to get one. One of the main reasons for that is that anyone better equipped than me, is not going to be giving up that gear easily. More than likely, I'd rather avoid that conflict. Add to it, that persons geared that well, will probably not be alone. So, I'd advise not planning to get that gear, but plan to be able to use it if you do.

I agree with your point that relying on battlefield pickups as a primary plan for acquiring a weapon system is a bad idea. However, I am excited about the possibility of collecting battlefield pickups as replacement weapons systems, weapons to issue new group members, and weapons to be used as spare parts. Also, battlefield pickups are not just weapons. You can get some good equipment, gear, uniforms, and boots from the battlefield. Take what they got; they don't need it anymore. Only get battlefield pickups when it is safe to do so. Don't risk your life to pick something up! If you think something is booby-trapped, tie some 550 cord to it, get behind some cover, and pull the cord.

Well thus actually happened to Russian soldiers and another country. Both countries had the same guns so the Russians changed there ammo. They put a lip on the caseing so there rifles would fire it and the other countries guns would hold the bolt open a smidge and blow up when they fired the gun. That's why you get 7.62x54"R" for Russian compliant ammo.

Here's what I think about battlefield pickups: Buy your own rifle and ammo, and train with it to proficiency. Don't depend on scavenging for resources unless you have no other choices. That's like being a benchwarmer for your team and not bringing any of your own equipment, assuming you'll just use your teammate's stuff when they get fouled out. It's lazy and irresponsible.

I’m still betting most people will die from tainted water and poop related diseases. It’s not hard to get a a few sawyer mini filters for on the move and and a few of the several gallon hanging bags that drain through a tube into a vessel below. But hey. I know I and my family is good 🤷🏼‍♂️. (You can actually learn a lot about yourself, weather, abilities, mentality and gear through going backpacking btw… especially in the mountains) Aside from tactical cool guy stuff rucking a pack in the mountain is probably one of the best way to see how you do under different conditions and what gear works for season and what stuff breaks after a week.

Although I do appreciate that it is all from a civilian perspective Not saying that any of it is bad. Simply an observation based upon the frequency of content. It is your channel, so do your thing.

Hell in Canuckistan (Canada) we’re screwed for even being able to train with most semis now. Hopefully the OIC (order in council) for forth by our communist government gets reversed with the new elected government seeing how the OIC was justified by false claims and disinformation about LAGO,s ( lawfully abiding gun owners). We will see what happens very soon.

Running and gunning in full auto during SHTF? Boy it sure sounds fun up until you realize you’re not Rambo with plot armor, its not call of duty in real life, you’re not in the US military with a massive logistics system and an entire country feeding it and keeping it stocked. Get in a firefight and take the people out that you can see then run out to grab their gear? Sounds amazing until you figure out you missed one guy heavily concealed with some patience. You’re not going to live to enjoy your trophies… I’m WAYYY more into old west firearms than what the government calls evil weapons of war. When I first started prepping I had to make the hard decision to sell of the wheel, lever and bolt guns I love the most to give me a good start on my prepping journey. I kept a couple of them but the vast majority went bye bye to help me where I wanted to be as quickly as I could. If I subscribed to the loot pickup theory I would have kept what I had.. Direct quote from a Marine combat veteran I’ve trained with. “In SHTF my trigger finger will run plenty fast enough, I won’t be in the Marine corps..”…

@@joshmiller9783 I know exactly what the true intent of the 2nd amendment is.. It’s not about self defense from common street thugs, home invasions and carjackings either.. From the looks of how comfortable the citizens are SHTF is more plausible than what the 2nd amendment is about. Open your eyes. You have half the country wanting to disarm the US citizens and the majority of the other half thinking a billionaire playboy, business man was sent by god to ride in on a white horse and save us in 4 years. And that’s after he already was president and advocated to disarm the US citizens via the backdoor and making it harder for citizens to exercise their 2nd amendment himself.. Even during what the 2nd amendment is about, only an idiot would be running around mag dumping in full auto.. You’re not in the movies, it won’t be a video game turning into reality and you won’t be in the military..
