Would love to see the other battles during the Norman Conquest on your channel and also William's later conflicts on the continent too. Also the wars between William Rufus, Robert Curthose and Henry Beauclerc
I am really starting to see William in another light. Skilled politician and a capable, ruthless commander. There is much more to him than the invasion of 1066. Great video HistoryMarche.!

We need more French medieval battles!
The funny thing is that William's heirs considered Normandy the biggest prize despite the fact that there was the throne of England up for grabs. William II of England and his brother Henry resented Robert for getting Normandy. Robert was pleased with Normandy, but believed his brothers only deserved some land in England as a fief and he should be King of England too. As for William, after the harrying of the north he left England in the hands of his administrators and didn't want to return to such a damp land. It's almost as if he didn't like England, but wanted to be King anyways. Henry I would later treat England as a piggy bank with Normandy being his most important land.

Nobody liked England as a fief back then; not even Richard the Lion-Hearted.

For sure ! After 150 years of Norman rule Normandy was a well-organised land that yielded many resources. When you know the usefulness of a document like the Domesday Book apply that to the duchy for said 150 years of Norman rule. No wonder why the Vikings stood in awe as they sailed back up the Seine river and saw chalk cliffs, the fertile meanders and vast expanses of wild forests, and believed their had come to their promised paradise.

Always a delight to watch. The politics of the era are even more important than the battles, so it's good that you explain so thoroughly everyone's motivations.

NGL, I thought this was gonna be a “discount” Kings & General(idk who came first) style channel BUT after watching a few vids, I really like the style of this channel, and realized my assumption was wrong. Excited for Hastings, future vids, and catching up on others.
I watch these videos like it's a blockbuster film. With the right imagination, it basically is.

William the conqueror certainly seems to have a lot of lucky breaks, throughout his military career that alongside with his tactical and strategic brilliance as a military commander gave him the wherewithal the survive and conquer against all odds, whenever things look like they were going up the swanny.

Would be lovely to see some Holy Roman Empire content.
When are you guys going to finish Hannibal's story. I like the way you guys explain things and would be nice to see that one end
Can you make documentries about ancient wars like Median invasion of Babylone, and Babylonian invasion of Judea and how Selecuid empire vanished and Parthian empire came at their place, and how Herodian kingdom was established by Romans and subsquent Romans sacking of Jersusalem in 70 ad by Titus. And thanks for this very informative video.
Well done! Understanding these earlier years of William as Duke of Normandy, really gives one insight to his Marshall abilities! You can see why Pope Urban ll eventually called the first Crusade. With so many Dukes,Counts & even Kings constantly fighting each over land disputes or succession rights or who owns rights to what it was good idea to send em to the Levant and point em in the direction of the Seljuk Turks!
Nice video
I think if there is one thing to learn from history is that if you proclaim an adult rival/ally/family member as your heir, you will inexplicably suffer a sudden premature demise and death.

Interesting.
If you don’t mind me asking but can you do a series on one of the most skilled admirals to rule the waves and this admiral is Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter and even though he fought in many wars he is most famous for his roles in the second and third Anglo Dutch wars and he would lead the naval forces of the Dutch republic in victory’s like the four days battle and his famous raid on the medway during which Chatham dockyard the building place for the hms victory would be attacked and captured the English flagship the royal Charles but this raid had an impact that not just shocked and impacted the world then but impact’s the world today and that impact was that the raid on medway was the first action for a unit of the Netherlands that continues to fight to this day and that unit is the Netherlands Marine Corps.
