is holis the equivalent of hiya?
OK, I am instantly a fan of you guys and will be looking for more videos. First of all, you are naturally hilarious, I love the props and skits, and as a gringo married to a Latina, I love seeing another couple that could not be more of a contrast visually but are obviously in a great marriage. My Salvadoran wife says "que onda" works in El Salvador but "que pex" is not known there. I enjoy vexing her with the Mexican Spanish I am learning.

Hey Steven. So glad you enjoyed the video + thanks for watching! Haha, yeah, quite a few of the words we teach are SUPER Mexican, so you're bound to drive your wife up the wall if you start using them all ;)
Well, since we are planning a trip to Mexico in the not distant future, she might find it handy to know some popular phrases. I have watched several more of your videos and loved them all. Pls keep making them. Stephen

I liked how in Colombia people just said "buenas" instead of Buenas trades or noches. Never heard that elsewhere though.

You can say "buenas" in Mexico and Spain as well 😀

Que pex!!! No manches, se me había olivado de eso. Eso sí es el saludo más chingón, seguido por "Qué onda". Y el ganador? Obvioooo, la mexicana jajaja

Jaja, ¿qué onda? ☺
Your informal Spanish is street friendly but these words would not show a Spanish learner in their best light. Maybe good for understanding verses actual use. How about another level “ up” between street jerga and formal conversation? For example, I attended an anniversary party and entered the room saying “ hola” to the group. My friend was embarrassed and she told me to say something “ mas educado “ like “ buenas tardes” . I even heard people say “ Que bárbara “. I therefore think what a foreigner says ( me), and what a native speaker says should be considered carefully. There’s a difference!

Yes, you definitely need to choose carefully according to the situation; "qué onda" and "holis" are decidedly informal☺️
