Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (also known as Batman: The Animated Movie - Mask of the Phantasm) is a 1993 American animated romantic superhero film featuring the DC Comics character Batman. It was directed by Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm, and written by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Martin Pasko, and Michael Reaves. Feature Animation division for theatrical productions afterwards. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Bob Hastings and Robert Costanzo reprise their voice roles from Batman: The Animated Series, joined by Dana Delany, Hart Bochner, Stacy Keach Jr., Abe Vigoda, Dick Miller and John P. 🌩 "😢😭Please... tell me that it's okay!" "😟Maybe they already have... 🥺Maybe they sent me." I know people, me included, support Bruce and Selina's romantic ship, but Bruce and Andrea's romance comes close second with how she almost saved Bruce from his dark future, and he almost experienced a life of happiness and normalcy. But of course, because of bad timing and complications, it lead to both of their lives being destroyed.

I read an interview somewhere that Kevin Conroy (may he rest in peace) channeled a piece of his own past when he was recording the “I didn’t count on being happy” scene. As best I can remember, when Conroy was a teenager, his father (who was an alcoholic) attempted suicide and was in the hospital for a long time. Conroy sat with him during the time his father was comatose and talked to him. Conroy channeled that dark memory into his performance.

@@autobotproductions1244You don’t know the half of it. There’s a reason his delivery feels so… raw and personal. Conroy struggled with a lot that related him to the character he played, from his struggles with hiding being a closeted gay actor in Hollywood where he had to hide his true identity, to severe parental issues and regrets over how he lost his father. I highly recommend looking up some of the videos about his early life and personality. It’s a fascinating watch that really fleshes out what he brought into the role.

There's another panel video where Conroy talks about how Andrea Beaumont's name was chosen. She's named after Andrea Romano, the iconic voice director of so many great animated series. It was almost a gag choice as during ADR sessions, Conroy would always have to do grunts and groans back to back and he would always jokingly end each take with a very orgasmic "ANDREA............" It apparently made the producers and writers laugh so much, they named the leading lady after her.

Maybe it's just because I enjoy the Riddler way more than the Joker but I loved The Batman (2022) the most. It had a greater feeling of real stakes and history, the dark conspiracy between the Waynes, Renewal and everyone in between was awesome. Batman and Selina were great, the action was all kinds of cool, the music is simply unforgettable even with the needle drop of Nirvana, and some of those scenes I'll never forget and still haunt me to this day (if not, it makes the movie more enjoyable). I really really like The Batman and I think it's the best live-action Batman, even if the ending with a flood literally washing away Gotham's evil was not what I expected. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one in my book! And yeah, Bat-Maniacs, I made a Star Wars Prequel reference, try and stop me mofos 😈😈😈

I like how the Phantasm shows up briefly in Justice League Unlimited in a time skip where Terry Mc Guinness is seeking answers about how Bruce is his Biological Father. His quest for answers leads him to Amanda Waller who admits to him that she was the one responsible for using Bruce’s DNA for Project Batman Beyond which would ensure that the Legacy of Batman would live on. She then tells him that genetics is only part of the story the rest is tragedy. She then tells Terry that her Assassin couldn’t pull the trigger. The Assassin was the Phantasm and Andrea confronted Waller telling her that if Waller wanted to Honor Batman’s memory she couldn’t resort to murder because Batman would never kill his enemies or even innocent civilians.

I always thought the flashback showing Andrea discovering “Jack Napier” killed her father is so underrated. Not only is it a great scream by Dana Delany, but it truly shows how evil Joker was even before his transformation. No laugh, no monologue, just comfy walking by Andrea, listening to her scream, then taking one of her apples. His smile isn’t even that wide, it was like killing that man meant nothing

Mask of the Phantasm is definitely my favorite Batman Movie. Kevin Conroy is Batman for me. Mark Hamill is Joker. Everyone in the Animated cast became what I hear when I read a character saying something in comics.

One of the main things I conjure when picturing the essence of the show. Dark broody Batman, terrified gang bosses, bleak Noir Gotham and the Hamill Joker gleefully cackling away in the shadows, as well as the origin story the series never told in this detail. Just when Bruce thinks he'd found a brighter, more positive path than Batman crime steals away one more person he loves, cementing his ultimate destiny along with hers.

I'm glad you mentioned Batman: Year Two. I was reading Batman regularly through the 80s, and I saw this in the theaters, and it seemed a pretty strong inspiration to me. It really was a great movie though.

I remember being thrilled when Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theatre was going to showcase this film for the very first time circa 1998 until maybe 2001...and somehow missed it EVERY DAMN TIME since it was shown around 6/7pm. After 25 years before Kevin's passing, I finally watched my beloved series get a movie; and i loved every minute of it. With the few revealing moments, I could only say...I wish I would've seen it earlier since the weight would've been more impactful as a child. An interesting myth, as I don't recall where I've read this source, is that the development of the Masked Phantasm/Andre Beaumont were partially inspired by a Nicky Holland's 1992 single: LadyKiller. With just one listen: it is probable that it set the tone for both the visual and writing staff along with Shirley Walker...but again...its a myth since I can not pinpoint who and where this information was said. A treat for all TAS fans. 🦇

I still remember watching this movie for the first time ever on Boxing Day back in 1995 and I thought at first that Mask Of The Phantasm was simply going to be an extended episode of the animated series but when I heard that epic opening choral theme of BTAS, I got absolute chills hearing it. This said to me that wasn't going to be "my dad's Batman" and I knew it was going to be something very special. 31 years later, this is still my all time favourite Batman animated movie and in my top 3 DC animated movies with Return Of The Joker & Under The Red Hood. A true masterpiece that would recommend to anyone

I was in the theater on Christmas Day in 1993 to see this film. I thought the place would be packed but was surprised to see only 4 other people in the audience. This is the best Batman movie of all of them, either animated or live action.
